We’ll probably never see Bayo start a game for us unless it’s the League cup and Davis will be ahead of Rey.
Remember Duxbury said only hell or high water would stop them backing RE this year. Or a cheeky loan bid from perennial strugglers Leeds.
Yes, both of their careers so far certainly suggest they have the potential to be "prolific"... ... ...
But when was the last time we went through a whole season without experiencing hell or high water? Last season was both, 20/21 was the hell of 442 Deeneyball, 19/20 was covid and relegation, 18/19 was the cup final annihiliation, 17/18 was the year of the snake. So I guess the last time we experienced neither hell nor high water was under Mazzini in 16/17?? Looking good Robbie boy!!
Yep. Here’s the clip https://twitter.com/SkySportsNews/status/1559209421443665922/video/1 Looks like we’re standing firm for now, but if they go above £25m I can’t see our board turning that down.
I'm not sure, the board have always said that he is not for sale and that they intend to build around him.
The slight concern here is that very rarely are bids made these days before the player has been sounded out first via their agent etc. Joao Pedro doesn’t seem the type to rock the boat - but this will be the second time he’s been made to play in the Championship. A move to Newcastle with a couple of fellow Brazilians and the chance to be part of what they’re doing will no doubt be enticing. I do believe the stance that ‘he’s not for sale’ as I really think the club entered this window knowing they wanted to keep 1-2 of that front 3. I guess we might see just how wild Newcastle want to be with their money - but I imagine the stance from us will privately be ‘£40m’. Think we may need to offer a new deal here with a big wage increase and some sort of agreement that he can leave if we don’t go up. Can’t see the player turning down the money on offer there to sit on his current deal.
Agreed. If the Geordies are willing to up the offer, I'm sure that a deal could be done. We definitely have to be applying HG tax on any fee. Not technically there yet, but he will be as of January if he were to join a PL team.
"...The Athletic understands that the club are comfortable with Bayo, Manaj and new signing Keinan Davis"
It's like a portal to the future just briefly opened up. Adam, is that you... speak to me. Knock out one article that says nothing for yes, two articles for no.
The only saving grace here is that aside from Chris Wood Newcastle aren’t really allowing their pants to be pulled down and just moving on if clubs try and take the piss. I reckon they’d go to £25m and that’s it, but just being realistic I think it would be a miracle of the player didn’t want the move so that will come into it.
Surely wouldn't sell for any less than £40m at this stage of the window given the money we've raised so far and his potential ceiling?
I know one club is PL (Everton) and the other isn’t (Us) - but the reply to Newcastle really should be ‘Anthony Gordon is rated at a minimum of £50m. Joao Pedro is a FAR better player. Bye.’
Well we’ve rejected 20 million and said he isn’t for sake.. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...united-bid-sign-watfords-joao-pedro-rejected/
Ouch, if Newcastle up the offer he's off, no chance he wants to slog it out in the Championship any longer than he needs to.
Well I’d be gutted for sure as I love watching him play and he’s very passionate and works his socks off. Only thing I would say, and I appreciate most of this won’t happen, but if it was big money and it all got reinvested in exactly what we needed then I’d be ok with it. The thing with Pedro is (and I’ll say it again, I love watching him play and he’s clearly got the most potential out of any of our players) but there are still a few question marks over his best position and right now he’s not the 20 goal striker we need and probably not quite that star 10 / ACM to be the absolute difference between us and the rest. If we play an ACM behind 2 strikers, there’s potentially better out there right here and now and for half the price? Well, maybe not, I don’t know, maybe this is my defence mechanism kicking in because out of our 3 star players he’s the one I most wanted to keep this year.
I'm hearing that Mogi is on the phone to Newcastle as we speak, desperately trying to get another bid from them.
Didn’t mind Dennis going , hope JP and Sarr stay the tone of the language by the club is something to be hopeful about , “JP not for sale” as apposed to bids don’t reflect our valuation.
