Haha. Nice joke (no pun intended). Well the thought might have crossed my mind but I didn’t like to post that comment myself as I’m trying verrrrrrrry hard to get behind VI!
Livermore was terrible on Saturday. Sluggish and gave the ball away at least twice just outside our area trying to play a square pass. Obviously it's pre-season and he needs more minutes, but nothing about that performance suggested he's even a suitable backup in that role.
He's not. Watching him it's painfully obvious he has absolutely nothing to offer at this level, I truly don't believe any other club in the division would have offered him a contract.
Leventhal isn’t really in the loop anymore and the club has been very hush hush about its transfers in general. The story he has reported today is based on the manager of another club confirming that a deal has gone through.
Gosling was very very average generally. Looked as if running through treacle whenever in midfield. He scored one valuable goal at Norwich and managed to briefly outperform the mighty Ngakia and Gaspar at right back before being injured, but that probably says more about how garbage that pair are. Seemed a decent bloke admittedly. Livermore is going to be awful and miles off the pace. Happy to have this quoted and shoved in my face if wrong.
Maybe the new manager has turned up at London Colney and seen that there is clearly a lack of leadership and mentality in this squad. By most accounts Jake Livermore has both of these qualities even if he is lacking technically or physically these days. I wouldn't want t see him JL start week in week out but in terms of being a leader on the training ground and in the dressing room then you can see why Ismael wanted him. Especially when you look at how mentally weak our squad was last season.
Honestly - you may be right but writing him off after one pre season game seems premature - that WBA did not play him is a worry but if the manager requested him then i am not going to secong guess him until he is proven to be as woeful as you worry
Gosling still got games at Muff before he came here, iirc they still had positive things to say about him as a player before he came here, whereas it seems all that West Brom have to say about the current incarnation of Livermore is that his legs have gone
I know it's not the same but Wigan fans said Watson was finished after not recovering from his leg break. If Livermore can just be not utter ***** for a few games this season, that might do. Who am I kidding? I said that all Bacuna needed to do was turn in three or four 6/10 performances then we'd never need to see him again. Played 14 times for us and was utterly turd.
Back to the topic of this thread. Let’s hope this all gets confirmed soon and Lewis can have at least a week training with us before QPR. It’s nice to have a potential signing to get excited about. He was one of, if not the, best left-backs in the division a few seasons back, prompting Klopp to offer £15 million for him and Newcastle to get him for even more than that. Yes he’s ‘lost his way’ in terms of not much match action these past two years but that could make him very hungry to succeed and at least he won’t arrive knackered (though maybe a little jet-lagged!)
That’s the thing though. I’m not sure anybody would care much if he was just here because he’s a positive dressing room influence. The worry is that he’s been signed to start every week, when the evidence suggests he’s not capable of doing that at the level we need. Lack of options to keep him out of the side (as things stand) is what worries me about this signing.
In a pretty dry transfer window, I am genuinely quite optimistic and excited about this one. Probably a bad sign as I was buzzing when we signed Davis.
@barely1egal lol yes me too! Despite failing a few things on my MOT checklist! Has he injury free? NO as he had a recent knee problem Has he played lots recently? NO errrr only twice in a year Is he old and past it? NO yayyyyyyy (Plus Have I heard of him? YES lol)
Lewis nowhere to be seen again in the squad for their Summer Series match against Chelsea kicking off in half an hour. Presumably news likely to be coming out tomorrow morning.
Well it's been 48 hours and nothing official yet... I guess we cannot trust Eddie Howe and what he says!
If this is the case wouldn't shock me if we attempt to make the deal permanent so we can offer a long term contract.
