Is This The Least Enjoyable Season Ever?

Well, IMO, it's certainly not detrimental to be positive and supportive, or do you disagree?

For reasons I already stated, we are miles away from that team who took the field against Norwich. Hodgson has provided a total reset. I just think we need to be on board with that, and I will not try to justify or apologise for trying to encourage others to have a rethink and maybe a change of attitude from negative to positive. It certainly won't be harmful to the team.

Nothing will be as bad as the Bassett debacle. Imo he single handedly ruined the greatest era of Watford history. Still hurts.

There's nothing, (and I mean absolutely nothing), worse and totally counterproductive than someone telling you to be positive in the face of a sh*tstorm of reality. Literally every post you make is having the biggest negative impact you can possibly imagine. It's horrific to read.

You're right. I've given my head a wobble and we need to stop doing Watford down and make Relegation work!

At the time of Bassett's appointment I was working with the Father in Law of a Watford player. He told me the day Bassett was appointed that it was going to be a disaster, which I presume he got from the player.

It has no real impact. Certainly whatever we say or do or here has no impact on the outcome of games.

It really shouldn't be a surprise that the more Pozzo changes head coaches as the seasons go by, the more people stop believing that that justifies a 'hard reset'. Otherwise you're tacitly supporting that approach even in the face of plenty of evidence that it's damaging our club. "Oh, a new guy has arrived. Quick everyone... stop being angry now and get behind the team." That's essentially the ground you've staked out, yes?

But, what's wrong with being supportive of the new regime? I don't understand why so many seem to be reluctant.

Sure, if we go down, then yes, we can all go through where it all went wrong, but our destiny is not yet defined. All we can do, as fans, is be supportive and try to generate a good vibe. Until it's mathematically impossible, why not try and get behind the team and think in a positive way as to how we are going to climb out of trouble?

I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. I think it's going to be a lot of fun seeing us claw our way up the league. Why not think that way? It certainly feels a lot better, rather than carrying around a lot of pent up frustration.

This season is worse than the last relegation because we are somehow even more sh*t, the players care even less and at least under Pearson we had some memorable wins against Villa, Wolves, Utd and Liverpool. The owners messed up that season, it’s been well documented and discussed to death but this season they haven’t learnt from a single mistake - the majority of which are the same ones they made last time. I’m past the point of caring about it, I’ll still follow results and chip in with my 2 pence worth on here but that’s it for now.

I'm absolutely buzzing about us being 2-0 down to Brighton on Saturday, leaving on 60 minutes and hearing boos and malcontentment spreading throughout the normally placid Watford faithful. I love seeing the hope and joy drain out of the crowd and the players shrug their shoulders and get on with being pathetic as they capitulate again.

    Love football me!

Yes. No fluidity on the pitch whatsoever which makes most performances turgid and flat. That's what happens when you sign a bunch of journeymen players on the cheap and try to make a team out of them. There's just no balance. Either we go all out attack or we put every man behind the ball.

I definitely agree that, whilst the last time was far more of a shock, and a wrench as a result, this time round is far less pleasant and less enjoyable. Last time out we still had some very high quality players, some great wins to break up the horror, and a significant period where our performances and (to an extent) results suggested we could be genuinely hopeful - Pearson's early reign was exciting and invigorating.

This time round it's been pretty bleak and disenchanting from almost the word 'go', with no sustained period at all of anything to enjoy on or off the pitch - mostly achieved by consistently abysmal and frustrating performances. We've scored one league goal this year, for fucck's sake. We're never exciting to watch, and yet as it stands we're not pragmatic either (subject to Roy's continued influence). It's been dispiriting.

Meet the new regime, same as the old regime…

There is no new regime. We’ve been told for nearly a decade that the head coach is not crucial to the model. They make no meaningful decisions. They’re replaced at the drop of a hat, with little regard for what the fans think and with no respect. Javi Gracia got us to a cup final and was sacked while stood in the dry cleaners! Why should I support them when doing so backs up Pozzo’s view that that’s the best way forward?

I’ve nothing against Roy and Ray. Good, traditional football blokes who’ve seen a lucrative but clearly short term pay day appear over the horizon and have thought ‘why not?’ They know we’re such a basket case there’s literally no down sides for them. I’m not going to waste time or hope on day dreaming that they’re going to be different and fix everything. The fact they’re going to bore the pants off us while fixing nothing is just the cherry on the cake.

I’m well pumped to sing ‘Omar Riza’s barmy army’ on the last day of the season though.

Surely last season will take some beating for being the least enjoyable? Regardless of the results not being able to attend matches and having to put up with Tommy Mooney's inane drivel while watching games played out in empty stadiums on a computer was grim

Personally I have no love for 13/14 (which thankfully turned out to be a blip rather than a long-term malaise), but how many other times have there been play-off teams who are as woefully inadequate as us that you simply know they have no chance in a 4 horse race? And how often is it that one or two players are so crucial to the team that everything collapses when they go?

Elton can take some of the blame too in all honesty, if I remember rightly the board were against his decision to go after him so quickly. But there were absolutely no excuses for letting players of the calibre of Richardson, Bardsley and say Falco go. But by all accounts the latter had been got to by Souness at Rangers. But no player he bought in produced at all. Hodges did but Bertie had gone by then. He even dropped the best Watford keeper I've ever witnessed in Coton before getting the boot. The less I say about Senior the better but we will always have the Coventry away goal to savour o_O

That was the same for every fan of every club, though. Imagine this season under the same circumstances?

It’s definitely up there ! Maybe because expectations were much lower in 99/00 and 06/07. There’s no denying it’s been utterly miserable this season ! Villa and utd were joyous home wise , but apart from those we’ve barely even had any cohesive performances .

Plus the fact we are almost certainly going down so the prospects for the remaining matches seem so bleak .

13/14 was frustrating because of the expectations at the start of the season, but at least had some fun players, and good games.

    6-1 vs Bournemouth
    3-3 vs Reading
    1-5 vs Barnsley
    4-0 vs Millwall
    4-0 vs Blackpool
    1-4 vs Sheff We'd
    3-0 vs Leeds

Sadly for a club of our budget 9/10 PL seasons will be more poor times than good. Even at our peak I think we lost more games than we won.

I’m not sure how people don’t think this season is worse than 19/20, when they said they would learn from all the mistakes that caused it then just repeated them from even worse.

For me that makes it a lot more depressing.
