Is This The Least Enjoyable Season Ever?

Wins against Everton and Man Utd were nice, but otherwise it's been a relentless grind of disappointment.

It really feels like we are club in a tailspin to me. 0 wins in 10 matches. No goals in however many. 1 clean sheet since the Renaissance.

It's just been so low on any sort of enjoyment or highlights.

I know we've been relegated before and at lower levels, but I don't recall it being this miserable and attritional before.

At this rate I'm not exactly super confident we'll beat the 1999/2000 points tally of 24 points. So it could end being statistically the worst in the PL era too.

And I think it's only going to get more miserable and more attritional. At least the Everton and Man Utd wins were joyful affairs. Chances are any we get from here on in are going to be 1-0 scrappy wins.

This season we haven’t been winning the games against our previous equals except Norwich away, we have done pretty well previously picking up wins against the likes of Newcastle, Palace, etc, in the Pearson season we started off a complete basket case with virtually no points until he came in and we bounced towards safety, except we didn’t make it.

This season is more like relegation in slow motion, with three points from out first game putting us in a false perspective, if we go down we have to come straight back up, every season we are out of the premier league makes it harder to get back in (if that makes sense)

I'd blow Roy for a couple of scrappy 1-0 wins now. I've not heard Depeche mode for years.

It’s easily one of the worst. At least when we were crap and beat the likes of Liverpool it felt incredible.

People will still tell you they’re grateful for the owners because we get to play in the Premier League, even though it involves living through one of the most depressing seasons they’ll experience.

The results are terrible, the players are terrible, the owners are terrible. I have absolutely no connection with the club at the moment. Apart from JP there's not a single player I'd be bothered about losing in the summer.

I don't know.....there are quite a few on this forum who are revelling in the misery of it all. It's probably the best ever season for them.

Problem is, we had our shot at becoming a PL mainstay. We survived for four entire seasons without really looking likely to get relegated. Team had some good quality in Midfield with the likes of Doucoure', Capoue, Delafoo and Hughes. We continued to punch above our weight in a division people said we do not belong in. Finishing 11th, but missing out on Europe to concentrate on a Cup Final we had no chance of winning was a the first mistake.

By the time 19/20 came around, we still had the vast majority of the same squad that played in the Final - but all were a yard slower and well off the pace. Even before the Pandemic hit, we looked like a sunken ship with the same aging sailors trying to bail us out with a new captain in charge now and then. Nothing changed, we got progressively worse despite a small upturn when Pearson came in, and we were relegated anyway despite somehow taking our fate to the final day.

Before the 19/20 season had begun, and maybe even before the 18/19 season - we should of looked at who was jaded, sold them on for a cut price perhaps and used the cash to improve with a younger looking team who were hungry to move us in a new direction. Instead, we persisted with the same side for so long, they got comfortable in their ways and losing meant nothing to most of them. I still think back to those four years we had and still wish we had organized ourselves better before it all fell apart. Even the best tools in a set will break and wear down eventually - and Gino/Scott never saw this before hand. "Good Enough" was never going to be "Enough".

We are where we are right now because of past mistakes by the club higher ups, we are left with players who were bought on the cheap to try to curve ball our way out of this mess. Dennis, Sarr and the new lads look good - but the rest is not good enough and it doesn't matter who calls the shots from the sidelines. Our plight right now seems hopeless. but al we can do is cling to the small notion we are not down after yesterday, but even if we beat Saturday and all results go our way - we will still be in the bottom three.

It's the worst because with GT/Aidy we just had no chance but it was understandable and every win was joyous.

This time it is just depressing as the whole shyt show is so unnecessary. If the prix in charge had just splashed a tiny bit of cash and not rehired QSF we'd be in mid table mediocrity now.

It’s a real shame that because your stance as a die hard cog has become so untenable, that instead of understanding why so many fans are unhappy you resort to stating they’re actually enjoying it instead.

It’s ok to change your mind and it’s ok to admit you’re wrong, nobody will think any less of you, in fact quite the opposite.

All relegation seasons are painful. This one seems more painful because it is in the present. It is not over yet, but it is looking very bleak. The positives are difficult to find. When your team wins a game, you feel a lift in your spirit, so a season in the championship will, more probably, give rise to such emotions more often than when we are stick in with the big boys. There you go, one positive!

You're falling into the trap of thinking people criticising the club don't want us to be successful. We're absolutely terrible, what's wrong with pointing out the obvious when it's slapping you round the face every week? We're below Norwich and got pummelled by them a few weeks ago ffs!

There's being positive and there's being deluded, some people on here are creeping into the latter.

Roys had only 2 games to instil his methods and been without Sarr. The next 3 will tell us everything we need to know about what's coming. I haven't given up hope yet but pretty much don't care either way.

Not really. I find it hard to give a crap about the team these days so the odd loss here and there doesn't really bother me. I've even stopped listening to the commentary now.

I'd like to see Woy & Way wetained, even when we are relegated. Another season in the championship, hopefully with them at the helm, coming back up as winners may well be good for the club overall. At this point scraping by and staying up doesn't send the message to the owners that changes are needed to the way the club is operated.

Out of PL seasons Boothroyd's was worse, because King's injury was a crushing blow and once it happened it was 100% impossible for us to have any chance of staying up whatsoever.

The whole season was literally just killing time before our inevitable relegation and as such utterly tedious.

I don’t want to deflect away from our own teams failings in any way (everyone knows I’m a die hard BW) but I don’t think the back drop of the modern game helps either.

We’re living in an age where the PM and his cronies can just commit blatant wrong doing after blatant wrong doing, and then just brazen it out in the hope everyone just ignores it and effectively that’s what they end up doing. People just accept it as all being ok.

Now football is doing the same thing, a footballer can kick his cat around his kitchen and laugh about it and the same day he’s still playing football. By the end of the game the commentators were just making jokes about it.

When I post something like that, I know exactly who will respond to it. It's always the same few posters. I never name names, but you reveal yourself very quickly every time, as your rhetoric is challenged which you, and others, hate.

I firmly believe there are a select few, who constantly drip feed volumes of negativity on here every single day and it's something that seeps through into everyone's thinking. Slating the players, Gino, Duxbury, big Bazzer or whoever, becomes the norm.

Can't you see, we are in a real battle and everyone has to be on board? If you're a supporter, then support. What's wrong with that? I don't believe the people who are negative on here are fully supportive and loudly singing on a match day......that's a myth. If you're negative on here, then you're going to be negative if you attend a game.

We need a big mindset shift from a few fans......just for a few weeks. I know it will be tough for some to change their personality, but it's for the good of the team.

We've got to get behind Hodgson and what the team are trying to do. You never succeed in a negative atmosphere.

Forget what's gone on before. The rest of the season is yet to be played. 16 more games, and plenty of potential good results to come. We now look organised, strong, determined and also have Sarr returning. There's a lot of reason to have hope. Even if it does turn out to be sh1t, you can still have the last laugh with all the "I told you so" remarks, and you can have a field day with that, I don't mind. But for now, back the team and get behind what I hope will be a successful relegation battle.

We’ve actually gone 22 games without a 1-0 win. Is this a Premier League record? In fact you have to go back to our home win against Everton on 9 February 2019 to find our last 1-0 win in the Prem - exactly three years ago! As someone said, we can either attack or defend but can’t do both - in the games we won, defence didn’t matter much, but in the rare games we’ve looked solid (both Spurs games, Burnley, West Ham last night, Arsenal at a push) it’s hardly helped us.

But I still say the 2006/07 season was worse, even if expectations were lower - having King out most of the season, Henderson who barely even managed to get into a goal scoring position leading the line, selling Young, Francis going missing half the time, the awful distribution and total lack of end product from our full backs, hoofing the ball into the mixer and only sometimes winning it from a throw-in (and occasionally from open play if we were lucky), almost zero points and goals against the top sides, signing pointless rubbish like Kabba, Hoskins and Rinaldi, two of the worst PL games I’ve seen Watford involved in (Sheff Utd and Bolton at home) - all that was pretty grim.

Also nonsense, I've never left a game early and support the team during games. Creating a negative atmosphere in the stadium affects the players, ranting on an online forum does no such thing.

Of course, this is the reply I expect. Always a fully supportive fan at games, but a miserable bugger off it. For me, that doesn't really ring true. You're either one or the other.

Here's a challenge, which I hope others will take up too. Try to be supportive and positive in the lead up to the Brighton game. Do your bit in creating a positive vibe.

If we lose, then you can go for it, with both barrels.

Said this last night, i can't see where we get the points to come close to 30. It's a minor miracle we can get 1 point from 10 games and still only find ourselves 3 points from safety

You really do talk the biggest amount of bollox humanly possible; it's incredible how smug you are and how you can never be wrong about anything, no matter how many times you are proven to be. Your constant swinging between personas and positions is similarly extremely tiresome.

For the millionth time, you are not the arbiter of anything, let alone how to be or who is a fan.

Well at least it's positive bollox, not the negative drivel you constantly churn out everyday. I know which I would prefer to read as a neutral.

So basically HB1 threw up a Hail Mary by claiming “we’ll definitely beat West Ham and this place will be silent” in a bid to position himself as some sort of all knowing oracle, and in a position of superiority over the roughly 95% of fans who are genuinely unhappy with how the club is currently run.

When we inevitably lost, instead of acknowledging these genuine grievances (even if he doesn’t personally share them) he doubled down and said it’s simply because people enjoy it, as well as suggesting expressing these feelings of dissatisfaction on a message board filter through to the team and affect results, so instead we should all think exactly the same way to avoid this. He also believes you can’t separate your feelings on a message board from how you feel and behave in real life. Basically he is to anthropology what flat earthers are to science.

Some of the finest trolling work we’ve seen on this forum to date.

What an incredible surprise - who could ever have guessed that you would come down on the side of your own grandiose and deluded perspective?

There's no virtue in being disingenuously 'positive' purely for the sake of weaponising it against other posters - you're as transparent, and as coherent, as ever.

Who does this positive vibe benefit? There was a massively positive and optimistic vibe going into the Norwich match and on the day the crowd were up for it and loud for as long as it took even the most positive people to realise the team had not turned up.
