You could have Piers Corbyn in charge and there would be a lockdown if it was needed. The other nations of the World would demand it.
Yep. Breaking news that he’s bringing back Crosby. This and the Saville line sounds straight out of his playbook.
Wow! The right wing stage a pressure campaign on the tories to go further to the right and the left are bemoaning the fact that they didn't achieve it. World's gone mad.
And there you have established the very reason for all this fuss in the first place. It is, I believe, the right who has done this to him, for the reason you say, along with other more right leaning policies. The left and those transfixed on anti Boris shenanigans have been very useful in achieving it, but ultimately they have been used by the right, and have relished the cucking. I am not averse to the outcome, from a similar point of view to yourself, but I am not very keen on the method, which is as manipulative of public opinion and conspiratorial as anything I have seen in politics since the last days of Brexit. I am as disapproving of it now as I was then, even if I do not entirely disapprove of the desired outcome.
To be fair to Blackford (surely Wallace born anew) it took an awful lot of effort, because most people would have been happy to make their point and move on. Sadly, it is impossible to take him seriously as an MP, and his expulsion came across more as a matter of a child being unable to comprehend the rules, rather than a fearless rebel standing up for what he knows is right. I have some respect for someone acting on their convictions, but sadly he has represented himself like a side show clown, a petty local councillor who thinks dramatic pause is two thirds of the truth, over the years, and it does come across as a tantrum. He should have just owned it and declared that he knew the consequences.
What a moron! https://twitter.com/secrettory12/status/1488406010637266948 I'm not pissed, I'm not pissed, I'm not pissed, I'M NOT PISSED!!
And this is the biggest reason why we have such an inept Government at the moment. The post Brexit purge within the Conservative party meant that many of the best and brightest were pushed out. That left the "quality" of Dorries to rise to the top.
Well worth going to the thread to see "Mad" Nad Dorries claiming that "We have won the war on Covid in this country".
You just know, that when the Government crashes down about her in disgrace, she’s going to doing a complete about turn and claim that she was the victim of all the ‘boys’ in the cabinet holding her hostage, making her come out with this indefensible drivel.
I think the real story here is that 3.4 billion has been successfully routed through donors deserving businesses, ensuring good British PPE is delivered to the British people. I've no idea why people try and twist things to only see the negatives.
Really tired of the wet Tories who claim to be unhappy with the PM’s behaviour but then rattle on about needing to see ‘the substance’ of the ‘proposed’ changes to governance in No 10. They are willingly swallowing this line that, rather than the terrible judgement of Johnson and his closest allies, the whole No 10 thing needs reform, exactly the approach that was tried with Patterson. It’s very simple, the PM is a liar, lies routinely, obviously, continually. No amount of restructure changes that. They need to have the courage to send him on his way, or admit they can live with the lies if they keep both he and they in power.
It is extraordinarily frustrating because this is no longer about party affiliation or left vs right. It is now about what is fundamentally required for our country and democracy. Many of the parliamentary rules and traditions are built on honour, trust and integrity. They have been ripped up by this government and particularly this PM. There is a real danger that we are heading for institutionalised corruption worthy of a banana republic at this rate. I hope the next administration, whatever party leads it, is able, and willing, to reverse this damage. Perhaps it is time for a written constitution as a starting point.
I can't be reading this correctly. 8.7bn losses on 12.1bn spent?! So for every 1 correct piece of PPE they bought, almost 4 were unusable? We urgently need to understand who benefitted from this terrible waste of money.
https://twitter.com/wildernessyrs/status/1488446559511580672?s=20&t=9zx9sELlxmPQMewU33xMeg Ouch. Raab being completely outmanovred by Ed Balls.
That's going to become a necessity if the government/elected officials refuse to abide by constitutional conventions. Those are the only reason our unwritten constitution works. If they're going to start ignoring them then there's only one option left.
The Telegraph claims Boris hosted ABBA themed party in his flat during lockdown. Knowing me, knowing Sue (Gray) Aha!
I've read a large chunk of the write off is them agreeing to buy PPE at a hugely inflated rate at the height of the pandemic and then as global supplies recovered them being stuck paying well over the odds. ie. It's an accountancy write-off in the books but the PPE itself was useable.
And the questions that raises are Which companies/individuals benefitted from this overpriced PPE? People getting rich from public money during the pandemic should be named and shamed. What part did the discredited VIP lane selection process play in choosing these suppliers? Which ministers/MPs personally gained, if any, from these suppliers being chosen? Why were fixed, expensive, long term contracts chosen for these supplies when it was very apparent that world wide production of PPE was ramping up very quickly and any shortages would be short lived? At best this was government incompetence. At worst it was corruption.
You beat me to it. As an aside, JRM's best "...mag..." - I really miss Viz's "Enrazzlement" specials.
One of the parties as reported in the Telegraph (!) was a leaving do for someone called Hannah Young who went off to New York. She’s a Watford fan. Orns.
And, once again, I have to call into question my pathological dislike of Marina "Snyde" Hyde and all her works....
What I can't grasp about this business is that, as I understand it, if PC Plod charges Borris with breaking the lockdown laws he will have broken the 'ministerial code' and have no option but to resign. I'd imagine that even the cret1ns that seem to make up a large proportion of the Met these days will discover enough evidence to write him a ticket for at least one of the shindigs at No10, so why doesn't he save himself the humiliation and throw in the towel now?
Tobias Ellwood, clearly reading WFC Forums, has now called for the PM to go. Appears that Johnson’s ‘apology’ followed by his Jimmy Savile slurs, the sort of right wing shyte flinging we’ve all grown to despair of, was the final straw.
Well it is odd. Johnson said, in Parliament, that there had been no parties and all rules were followed. This was a lie, because clearly he witnessed them and has apologised for them taking place. 99.99% of the population would probably concede they had been found out at that point, but Johnson simply does not see it like that. Truth is merely what you can wrestle out of him.
