Great signing. Almunia has served us very well and hopefully Gomes will do the same. Encouraged by our first two moves this summer.
I'm a little lost. I wasn't joking.. you do know that Grimsby won't be playing in the championship next season, right? Also, the chances of us being drawn against them are very small indeed.
Very happy with this, I am sure he will have a few howlers but will earn us many more points with his saves.
Does anyone know if he's a disruptive influence on the dressing room and whether or not he'll be leading our younger players astray? Would be worrying if this were the case.
Quality signing. And probably explains why Stech didn't join us, knowing Gomes was on his way to be number one.
Why would we playing grimsby on a Tuesday night they wouldn't even be in the same cup competitions as us, oh I see a testmonial for Graham Taylor or jimmy Gilligan as they " played " for both clubs
My spurs fan friend said he was the best keeper in the prem during their champions league qualifying season, but suffered from the increase expectations/pressure the following year. He'll be under far less pressure here, and I'm sure he'll rediscover his best form. I've also been told he's a very nice man, and a bit of a nutter.
The upside on Almunia (they are similar and coming from similar situations) is that hopefully Gomes can last near enough a 46 game season. This was a problem with Almunia, particularly as he was our captain, in that Manu missed 16 games over two seasons. Gomes is at Almunia's level if not, on paper, actually slightly better. It can't hurt, plus its only a one year deal with an option of a second. We needed someone to replace Almunia's experience and we've done that. My only worry would be wages. Even if its only a one year deal, Gomes would have been on at least 40k ish at Spurs, so must have taken a sizeable pay cut. Fair play to him for wanting to play first team football again. When Almunia came he said it was nice to feel wanted again. Im sure Gomes feels the same. As Almunia is off it would seem, would just like to thank him for his efforts. A great professional who genuinely enjoyed pulling on the Watford shirt after so long on the sidelines, and of course he brought us that incredible Leicester moment! Adios Manuel, Boas-vindas para Watford, Heurelho!!
Some of the saves on here are unreal.
Heurelho Gomes you are the love of my life Heurelho Gomes ill let you shag my wife Heurelho Gomes I wish I was Brazilian too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu2A51CGV4c
Quite pleasing to see that, from hearing what was said in Gomes's HP interview, Gino Pozzo is actively meeting new signings and highlighting to them that we are pushing for promotion this coming season. Looking forward to seeing some more high profile signings like this one, (players with quality not just notoriety).
That save from a Barry header was incredible. Reminiscent of Gordon Banks 'Save of the Century' against Pele in 70 World Cup
I think you may be mistaking me for someone else, I don't remember disagreeing with anyone else particularly, not recently anyway. I understand he is a great shot stopper, so is bond, but People hated almunia punching everything... This guy takes it to another level. Anyway, not a bad signing but not particularly convincing either, much like the guy he is replacing, but he can be both better and worse, not sure that's what was needed.
Think you are posting on the wrong forum mate. Watford fans can't see the good in anything. He is already next season's boo boy
Result! Ok player, (prone to a howler) but it's a testament to the Pozzos that these sort of 'names' if you will, are willing & happy to join the club. Good stuff. It should keep competition for the GK spot high. Nice to have another option at that position too.
On his Hornets Player he says he always has a good rapport with the fans, I've got a good feeling about this one
Looks like he loves celebrating a goal. I hope he celebrates last minute winners by hurling himself into the crowd. Wait, what am I saying, we'll be conceding the last minute goals!
Absolutely amazed that some fans aren't happy with this one. Spurs purchased him for 7.8 million only 6 years ago, and at 33 years old he's now in his prime keeping years. This guy is going to be beyond brilliant for us.
Just listened to his Hornets Player interview. This man is clearly highly ambitious and comes across as extremely confident. Really excited about this one, I think he's going to be exactly what we need. EDIT: for those without HP, there is a snippet here:
I apologise if I'm mixing you up with somebody else but just getting a little tired of us signing decent players, from the Premier League no less, but not being happy. I'm not sure people realise the size of club or what league we play in. I'm sure like every keeper he will make mistakes but I'm hopeful his quality at other times will far outweigh the mistakes. Only time will tell but rather him than a lot of others that have been mentioned
How much has he played in the last few years? That's a genuine question. My main issue is that we've been crying out for a reliable presence in goal all season, and Gomes probably hasn't ever been described as reliable. Hopefully he'll be a little more even-keeled playing under less pressure, and we'll see more of the guy making incredible saves than the guy making hideous blunders. I don't think there is a middle ground with this guy, he'll either be incredible, or an absolute bust.
