The club and fans are very good at that. Hyping up someone then quickly finding for whatever reason they aren't all that. I guess we probably aren't the only club who do that though.
A totally unsuitable transfer made by people who think they know what’s best for the English championship but clearly have no idea Worrying portents for the summer ahead
So with Araujo struggling to even get in to a mid-table Liga NOS team and managing 0 goals or assists in 570 minutes (but managing 1 yellow card) - do you still think those people are so "skilled at player evaluation"? Is his ability in Portugal really "pretty stellar"? Or was my original view that "This kid doesn't seem fit to lace Ramos' boots" the correct one all along? That's €65mil Goncalo Ramos who while not having set the world alight has still scored 4 goals in 805 league minutes for PSG.
This whole thread is pretty hilarious considering how Araujo's loan turned out and how he's doing now back in Portugal. You've got @a19tgg trying to claim my opinion was a "sinking ship", and then desperately trying to back-track by claiming that it was still too soon to evaluate him by mid April because "Araujo might be a complete dud, he might be great. Who knows at this stage, certainly not you.". You've got @Smudger still trying to claim that he's a "proper finisher" and that reids' contacts must automatically have a better opinion than mine just because they're "professional": "You're quite amazing. Really. As reids said these people have watched Benfica and Benfica B on a regular basis but somehow you know better. As always. Maybe it should be a lesson to you so maintain a healthy dose of scepticism etc, etc." Smudger with his default denigrating of the club also added that: ' I expect he'll flourish like several others away from the incompetence and mismanagement of this club." Lol. You've got @WatfordTalk insisting he could still do as well as Cameron Archer was doing in the Champ (to add that Archer has also at least managed 4 goals in the PL while playing for the bottom club). You've got loads of posters complaining that Wilder must be mad and at fault for not playing him. Well it's pretty safe to say now that my opinion was not a sinking ship, that I did know, and that I did know better.
That's great but surely it would've been nicer to see him succeed for us? And also this feels a little bit late to be brought up now???
Not really, considering that a number of posters were rather claiming that it was still "too soon" for me to be writing him off in the latter part of last season.
Is there a bit of look at me egotistical behaviour going here ? How have we gone back to talking about a player where the last post on him was in May last year ..
9 months later and you've bumped a thread up just to prove you were right about something completely irrelevant. How utterly bizarre. I'm sure reids and others will lose sleep over this one. Weirdo
Because someone else (leighton buzzard hornet) just brought him up in the Rotherham thread while discussing Rajovic: "Rajovic is limited and was dreadful yesterday. But for all the overly dramatic posts about being amongst the worst ever, I’d still have him over the two donkeys we had last season in Araujo and Kienan Davis." https://wfcforums.com/index.php?thr...tford-fc-17-02-2024.60790/page-8#post-3314918 And another poster (Hogg-Deeney) added to that the information about his recent performances which I wasn't aware of: "At least [Davis] did manage to put the ball in the onion bag occasionally, Araujo hasn't done that since before he joined us last January..." I hadn't thought about him and this this thread for months until those posts brought it to mind. Furthermore, as per my above post, it's also relevant to look back at it now anyway as some posters were claiming I had been speaking too soon at the time and that he'd prove me wrong in future - but now is the future so it makes sense to look back and see whether I had been speaking too soon and was proven wrong (and I wasn't). If you make a prediction about the future, it is not "irrelevant" to later see if the prediction was valid or not.
Might of been a better idea to just mention what you said in the Rotherham thread about Araujo and have a polite discussion about it there over bumping an old thread, calling out certain members with tags just to prove what you said before was correct. Doing it this way is only going to provoke an argument with tagged posters if they still disagree with your earlier views.
A quick summary would have just been to say none of them were or have been particularly effective as all round strikers ! We haven’t had one for a while now .
Does anyone remember Rousey Boys hatred of Cucho? He decided from day one he was no good and desperately clung to that opinion, even when he was smashing in worldies on the regular in the Premier League. If I was that way inclined I’m sure I could dig the posts up, but I’m sure plenty of people remember it. He was still slagging him off when he was breaking all sorts of records in the US. Now he’s doing the same with Rajovic but in reverse, he decided from day one he was great and good value for his transfer fee, so now they’re on a constant one man crusade to constantly try a and correct the 99.9% of posters who think he’s just an utterly hopeless, awful player wrong. The lack of self awareness in this latest ‘gotcha’ post from someone who is very often spectacularly wrong about players and then doubles down twice as hard rather than just admit they’re wrong is truly staggering.
If any of us could, with any certainty, tell which young players will become world class and which will be duds we wouldn't be posting on here. We would be working for one of the top clubs in the world! For example, I confess I was totally taken in by Peñaranda and Success. They looked absolutely outstanding at Granada. Look how they turned out! I genuinely cannot see the point of digging up old posts where forum members gave their genuine opinions on young players based on the data available at the time. It's childish.
I know that not everyone is on board, but I think it’s great news if Araujo really is coming back. Apparently he was sitting between Mogi and Gino at the Rotherham game, so I imagine something must be happening. Can’t help feeling he has something to prove to us Hornets.
Nah. Sticking it in other posters’ eyes is surely one of the few pleasures of being a member of this fragmented fanbase. That said, Rous was definitely left unsupervised for too long last night.
Got to hold my hands up here. With absolutely no knowledge of the guy before he signed, I thought he was going to be amazing. I read the first paragraph of his wiki page and everything there convinced me he was going to be the best player in the Championship. I still think it was a case of 'bad fit' rather than 'bad player' but then I thought that about Suarez, whom everyone else considered awful.
He's got a big release clause so must be good. I reckon his lull in form provides us with an opportunity to try and get him permanently for say 50% of his release clause. Gotta be worth a cheeky offer.
Of course when our sage gets it wrong he conveniently ignores it, covers it up or pretends it never happened. I'm sure reids who is an actual football analyst and actually works in the game won't be losing any sleep. Neither will I. It's just odd and quite sad that a grown man behaves like thus. A broader perspective , maybe other interests might help. Or if you think you are this footballing sage get yourself into the game. Otherwise it's quite infantile behaviour which shows you've learnt next to nothing from your previous ban.
Suárez at least had a successful career in Spain, Araujo was always a punt based on his potential, well, once upon a time Peñaranda had potential!
He was there because he's a Watford fan through and through. He bleeds yellow and black, well, black and a bit of yellow.
9 months later!? What utterly bizarre behaviour! That last bit is the Partridge esque in the extreme, incredible
Part of the point is that his current failings back in Portugal add to the idea that it was more a case of the latter.
Considering I was never given any kind of explanation whatsoever from the mods as to why I was banned - despite my repeatedly asking the mods that question - I don't know what I could have even been expected to have learned.
Seems a number of posters have been living rent free in the weirdo’s, sorry Rous’ head for the last 9mths. The pettiness is almost Bassini like…
