LR seems to be of the opinion his is the only one that is right. He still has this unfortunate habit of calling other posters idiots and of digging up posts from months ago to highlight how clever he is. While continually defending his own mistakes with all sorts of excuses. It's quite sad especially for an adult to be engaging in such behaviour on an online forum. Holding opinions is fine and we may well be right or wrong but there is absolutely no need to crow about one's successes and be ultra defensive with one's mistakes. It's a trait politicians have and an unpleasant one.

I have my faith more in the like of @reids who does actual statistical analysis and those junior football scouts who took Araujo from Maritimo to Benfica and who has the interest of many top clubs. I think the situation at Watford as indeed with other young players is detrimental to them. He's a natural finisher.

I’m sure that’s right. I recall Reids comment that Portuguese fans were saying they couldn’t believe we’d pulled off the loan. Looked like an ideal “Vydra” playing off Davis. However he’s barely been given any game time. The coaches know his career stats and see him in training yet haven’t picked him. There must be a reason. Didn’t want to come ? Too lightweight for the English leagues ? Fee connected to performances ? Who knows but it hasn’t worked out for either party has it, so despite the initial excitement, it looks a poor loan.

All of which are below the level of the Championship.

I never said he might not have potential as a player, but that it was a pointless loan signing for us in our present situation as he did not appear ready to make enough of an impact at this level yet, and if he was to ever be good enough it would take some time - time which we did not have given the season was running away from us.

(although on his potential I'll still eat my hat if he turns out to be better than Goncalo Ramos, as some claimed earlier)

When have I ever back-pedalled furiously on Gaich? I'm aware he's currently not living up to his initial promise (though he did just score a winning goal at the weekend for Verona).

And well done on being correct about Alexis MacAllister btw.

It's false to say that I'm incapable of acknowledging when I've been completely mistaken about such a thing, but it is still an unusual occurrence.

I didn't address the other poster as an idiot - I only said that it's what they must be if they weren't lying (because what they were saying flew in the face of reality).

How else are you meant to address a poster who, when shown that 2+2 = 4, replies that it's actually 3?

PS - I edited it to the marginally less offensive "fool".

Except I was right that it was a pointless loan signing. I don't see how anyone has grounds to disagree with that given how he performed and how our season has gone.

He simply did look off the pace and lacking the required physicality for the league in his initial appearances. Posters still trying to claim otherwise are desperately clinging to an already sunk ship of an opinion.

If this was a Manga/ Costa loan signing - how well does this bode for their effectiveness. Porteous I think had been in our sight for some time - and he has been -IMHO - the only real effective January recruit for the push for play offs being “ championship ready”

Quite, when this signing was just announced I posted, and got push-back for posting, the following:

"Honestly, I don't see how what Costa seems to be doing right now is a huge departure from a lot of what Bayat was doing, except it's swapping Nantes and Charleroi with Benfica.
Just raiding the club you have strong connections with appears as much laziness as "actual scouting". It's obviously early days, but it's not as if Ferreira has hit the ground running.
It can be beneficial to have clubs whereby you can leverage relationships to make deals you otherwise couldn't be able to, but only if the players a good and the fees make sense.
I'll add that obviously her and Ubenga haven't been here long so might not have had much time and chance to cast their net wider to find us players, but so far it's not been adventurous."

I think some posters were just so pleased that we were signing someone not from Bayat then they were a bit blind to recognising that a Costa dud and a Bayat dud, are still both duds.

Ferreira still has time to come good mind, I'm not writing him off possibly becoming a good player for us. But I think it's fair to wonder if he's really the best option we could have signed - we now have 3 RBs, none of which seem entirely convincing. And certainly Araujo was the wrong call.

I'm also not going to write off Costa and Ubenga already just from their January signings either as they are both new to the club. They might also have under-estimated the Championship. This next transfer window will be of huge importance though, and will be telling as to what they can offer the club and if they've learned what's required.

He'll probably score a tap-in now that he's come on when we're already 1-0 up and playing well in a pointless game.

Our game wasn't really so pointless at that point though.

Still, in the interests of fairness and magnanimity I'll happily strike Britt's goal off the record if we also strike Araujo's goal today off.

    Oh wait...

It's clear that this deal hasn't come off for us, but the difference between this and the Bayat deals, whether they come off or not, is that I don't see any evidence to suggest the main reason behind this deal was to keep others sweet

Not sure I've ever seen a player so comprehensively bullied by opposition players off the ball as this guy. He'll never get on the end of anything as he's almost always on his backside crying while the move goes on (or rather, breaks down) around him.

Are we talking about Araujo or the 7-8 others we have that do this? Including someone we paid £40m for and todays captain who loves a roll around holding his face.

Bunch of charlatans the lot of them. Not gonna blame a loan player for joining in.

Oh yeah, the squad's rife with players who go down at the merest or zero contact when challenging for the ball. But Araujo has definitely made the off the ball cop out his own.

Given time on the pitch against instances, I’d disagree. Joao Pedro is the undoubted prince of this.

    But defo take your point!

Indeed, except "those portuguese kids down the pub" are actually the manager and assistant at the side currently ranked 8th in the Portuguese top flight, both of whose opinions I happen to trust when it comes to Portuguese football.

So the "joke" doesn't really work on any level.

Except they weren't talking about his suitability to English football or how he'd fit in to the Watford team. They were talking about his ability in Portugal which has always been pretty stellar.

Really we probably ought to be asking why a young striker like him was brought in when clearly not suited to the league we're in.

Who knows if the lad will actually be totally useless throughout his career or make it somewhere.

His ability in Portugal is still evidently below Ramos otherwise it would have been Ramos getting loaned out to the Champ as opposed to scoring 17 league goals, 3 CL goals and 3 World Cup goals for Portugal this season.

I don't care whether you' want to play him in Portugal, England or wherever, but if you think that the player delivering performances like that in the Championship is preferable to Goncalo Ramos then you clearly have a clueless opinion.

Goncalo Ramos is only 9 months older than Araujo as well - there's just no chance a player delivering performances like that at the moment will improve upon what Ramos is currently doing in the near future.

A reminder in case that was what you were insinuating, but I've never said that he'll be "totally useless throughout his career".
