Just saying there's no set quota, you don't need to name 8 if you don't have them which at this stage we'd have to do. I believe other clubs have named squads of less than 25 in recent seasons. Obviously we could sign some homegrown players before the season starts but there's nothing to stop us having Deeney, Anya, Cathcart, Watson and Murray in the squad and then sign some under 21 talent from abroad or the UK who would be in our matchday squad too. Why sign some homegrown dross just to pad out the squad? If they're not better than an under 21 player or a foreign player then I don't see the point. And I'm not saying Friend is dross, I rate him.
It's been said many times already, we have 5 or 6 homegrown players already, it could be quite optimal to have 15/16 "foreigners" and 6/7 homegrown leaving space for more signings in January or before the window closes. Certainly not the end of the world if we don't fill up all 25 squad positions. And I don't really rate Friend like others do, over rated and therefore probably over priced.
Was i stood with you at the time, and was the other pplayer Tyrone mIngs, with the answer coming back as far too expensive, if so then LD was spot on.
Yeah absoloutely battered. Be funny if Friend did come off, as LD kept mentioning him, he wasnt wrong about Mings
