Have been waiting for this one to be rumoured. We'll almost certainly have enquired following Boro's defeat at Wembley, as Friend was discussed at the awards night (pre-playoff final), as someone on our radar and could comfortably suit both LB role and LWB. Friend was one of only two players we spoke about by name, the other was the Lithuanian keeper who was confirmed as having joined (was made official weeks later). Wouldn't be surprised if we lodge/ have lodged a bid which we believe to be fair, but Boro reject given the premium on British players, and we look elsewhere for what we believe represents better value (I.e. Holebas). That said, I'm sure we'll sign some Brits to ensure we meet our quota and perhaps we'd therefore be willing to push the boat out a little for someone we really do rate.
You can have 17 foreigners and then a few homegrown if you want. You don't have to have a 25 man squad. It's a myth that you have to have 8 homegrown players.
So your point is that if you choose to you can get round the problem by only naming 17 non homegrown players i guess Whilst that is obviously true - it is at the same time daft - so your plan to get round it is to name a smaller squad than anyone else Good Plan - lets offer to play with legs tied together too! In reality there is a quota if like everyone else you want 25 ov er 21yr olds in the squad
