We stayed up by 8 points, and he won us 6 of them, and he was only here about 3 months. Definitely a chance we get sucked in without his contribution. Either way, as a loan player, certainly doesn't fit the description of a dud, in the same way Gray does.
He was a breath of fresh air in what was a turgid Walt side. We definitely would have gone down without signing him
Yep, best way to judge a player is by stats rather than by your own eyes. By the way, Abdi was a great championship player, but abject in the premier league.
Yep, then the same whoppers will be moaning when we finish bottom half. Our fan base is truly something special.
Dennis was always going to leave if he possibly could. Too good for this level and not in a Grealish situation. Not REs fault and I don't blame the club for selling someone who wants out. As others have said, it's about how we replace him.
Dennis was one of about 13 signings last season and the only one who came good. I don't like the odds of us replacing him with a good forward or a good defender. In fact, our signings are pretty much 9 **** ones for every half decent ones over the last 3 years. Anything that relies on us signing a replacement, I'm not holding my breath.
Dennis came with high pedigree. Bayo hasn’t. I do fully take your point on board but the example has holes in it.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really understand why we’ve spent so much on Bayo, but I wouldn’t say Dennis had pedigree. I’d never heard of him and he was coming off the back of an awful season in Germany.
Dennis played Champions League football and scored twice against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. The only way Bayo will ever step foot in the Bernabeu is if he pays for a stadium tour on his summer holidays.
You’d never heard of him, that’s fine. But he’s excelled in Belgium at a young age, been linked with Arsenal for £20m+, scored twice at the Bernabeu and also at Dortmund away. He’d featured many times in the CL. He has a pedigree far beyond anything Bayo has done.
it’s all relative - 32 Premier League appearances in a season we finished 13th. I would be happy to have a squad full of players capable of that contribution and end result. However we had the best of Abdi three years before that. He was superb, and but for Zola **** up at Peterborough, would have shined in the Premier league the following year - feet permitting.
Yes. A win and not for the first time, Lukebakio also made us a tidy profit (neither of them are 10x though!). Think it has since transpired that Lukebakio is in fact a dud, so seems we got lucky with him.
I'm not convinced Abdi would have been a smash hit in the Prem in any scenario, but we didn't exactly give him the best platform to thrive...
To I love Abdi, one of my favourite ever Watford players. But Dennis is way more talented. There's no shame in it.
I can't help wonder if Dennis will be one of those players who never stays anywhere long. I suspect that that could be due to personality. It's not just skill that makes a successful footballer.
His attitude is the problem. If he has no history of attitude issues, a 25 year old player who can comfortable play anywhere in the front three and will get you at least 12 goal contributions in the EPL without playing penalty kicks will have lots of teams queuing up to sign him for 30m. If he's as lazy off the ball like in the last game he won't get far. Only if he's scoring regularly or the team is near the bottom of the PL in squad depth will they likely let him get away with it. The Liverpools and Man Citys of this world, even the Brightons of this world expect a decent workrate when the opposition has it.
We could have drawn our first game and lose to West brom without both of them. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
Any player that is in the process of negotiating a transfer is unlikely to give his all and risk getting injured.
He went missing in loads of games, doesnt do the basics right and wants to show off his flair all the time. £20million, nice, get rid.
Close to being done according to The Athletic. Think we can safely assume he won’t be playing tonight then! Get Davis done by lunchtime and whack him on the bench. Get Choudhury in for Dennis and let’s see what Edwards preferred shape can do.
Why's that? I thought if he was signed by midday he could be in the squad? If that's the case no reason why he couldn't be on the bench at least?
Going to be very tight if he has medical today to get everything wrapped up by midday plus I’d assume Edwards would want to see him before playing him and given him change to work with teammates. Might be wrong of course but very much doubt he will play this evening.
Bon Voyage Bonaventure. Having a fellow Nigerian (Awoniyi) will help him. A good signing and finally a good profit for once.
I’d say it’s unlikely, sure. But not impossible if done in time. But I agree, far more likely he puts Choudhury in and then gets Bayo back on the bench.
