Seen we have offered a 4 year contract to this 16 year old striker from RC Lens, France U17 Intl. Some kind of dispute going on between player and club about accepting the contract however, we should be careful really, Lens got Chelsea into trouble for doing similar with Kakuta!
Here's the article www.madeinlens.com/actualite-rclens...a-un-nouveau-gael-kakuta-pour-le-rc-lens.html
An RC Lens scout/expert of some sort says that Faupala is tall, good with his head, has a good shot and can run with the ball. Calls him a complete striker. 4-year contract offered and deal very likely to be completed soon. Says that a Kakuta type situation is unlikely as Watford are making efforts to avoid that type of situation and the player 'doesn't want to make trouble'. Still under contract at Lens so likely to be some sort of compensation fee involved, similar to the Ikpeazu deal.
He's French. We have been at war with them for about 2,000 years and I'm not about to kiss and make up. Its a no from me.
Sounds good. Every chance we can build him up, develop his talent and sell him to Peterborough after a successful loan spell with Wealdstone. It's a 'yes' from me.
This is the next step we need to take. Use the scouting network; promise an excellent youth environment, first-team football & future potential PL football to get players who are simply far too good for this league.
Almunia has just commented on how we are lacking players willing to die for the club, and then we go and sign a Frenchman. We'll be waving the white flag before the first kick-off.
Interesting to see the Pozzos signing young talent directly to Watford rather than to Udinese then loaning them out. I think this shows they mean business and hopefully signings like this will happen more often over the next few years.
I think this is extremely likely. When you notice a promising 16-17YO player you cannot simply "buy him" but you must convince him to come. In a team that will be good for him and his career, hopefully not too far from home, without having to learn a difficult language. Udine is not the best place to answer to all these requirements. A difficult and not so useful language to learn. A city far from interesting places. It is maybe just "natural" that more and more the (hopefully) "wonderkids" signed will go to Granada if south-americans (language), to Udine from Balkans and to Watford from anywhere else in Europe, because for a young player I think it's good to go to a place near London where he can learn or improve English language knowledge. Also knowing he'll be in a "family of teams" that relies a lot on young players and he'll have a chance to play and shine if he's good, rather than being just one of many in the youth team of a "big team".
Fark me - have you seen the You Tube vid - sign him - put him in the team right now - He reminds me of Torres (when he could play)
Watched him on YouTube, scored 1, missed a hat full, these days you ve got to get em around 6-7 years old.. He ll be another Walcott going to the World Cup taking up room on the bus.. It's a no for me.. Plus he ll always be in that tunnel going back and forth and that don't look safe to me.. We ll never get insurance for him.
Not the one i looked at -he was banging em in left right and centre You sure you did not type Carlton Cole?
I think what a lot of people don't seem to realise is that the Pozzos aren't in it for instant success. The success we had last year was not planned. I think their plan is to use us the players we have at the minute and get us to the Premiership and survive. Realistically the players at our disposal, bar a few, don't look like they'd make it in the Premier League. However, coupled with our already good academy, I think the Pozzos are building a team for the future. Thats when it will all come together. They have already signed one of the highest rated wonderkids in the world, Panos Armenekas, and a highly rated US goalkeeper, Arie Amman. They have also signed probably the best U18 Striker in England, Uche Ikpeazu. Add in our own youngsters like Murray, Hoban, Bond, O'Nien, Mensah and the other players like Kyprianou who we don't know much about but have been on the bench for the senior team. We have one hell of a squad in the making. When these players start to break through over the next 5 years we will have players like Faraoni, Angella, Vydra (hopefully), Anya, etc all more experienced and used to english football. These players will be around to help out the youngsters such as this French guy and Armenekas, just like players like Eustace and Hogg helped last years loanees adapt to the english game. The future is bright. The future is yellow.
He looks a bit special ... The future certainly looks very positive if we build a team around the quality of youngsters we are bringing in.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/...david-faupala-reportedly-keen-on-watford-move Would seem to be something in this, although the wording of the agent's comments in saying that "he wants to play" was interesting. I assume it was meant to be, he would get to play sooner than he would at Lens, rather than he wants to play now, as, good as he sounds, he is 16.
Much as I would love this guy to be the answer up front, I don't think he will be, especially given that Chalobah barely lasted playing every week, with a visible tail-off in form towards the end of the season seemingly due to fatigue, and he's a good couple of years older. I still think trying to sign Faupala is a great idea, and that even in a year or two he'd be a good option to play occasionally if he is as prodigious as seems to be implied, but hoping that a 16-year old with no experience of first-team football will save our season would seem to be a little desperate, it would just seem that he is more of a prospect for the future, and I'd expect us to get someone else in for the short-term. There are kids as in young players on the fringes of the team, and there are kids as in he'll have to do his GCSE's in the summer if he signs. I agree to an extent, that if he really is good enough, he should play, I just think it unlikely, given mental aspects of the game as well, and the tactical rigour of our new manager. That we're trying to poach youth internationals is great though, and I'm glad we're trying to do it.
He turns 17 in February. Plenty of players have made appearances at that age. I'm not saying that he will, depends how good he is, I suppose.
