If I remember Leigh Bromby had an enormous throw on him similar to Rory Delap

Mike Rigg is really good on Football Manager. I always sign him up as my chief scout.

Giaretta had no achievements of note on his CV.

It’s a start but that said Giraldi going didn’t change much, it remains to be seen how many decisions he actually made.

It’s a small positive step if they’re actually willing to back Rob a few windows and let him build, that’s the only way he might come good. I’ll take a couple seasons in The Championship that way, who really wants to wing our way up right now with the amount of plasters on our playing squad? Still don’t believe he’ll be here very long though, Gino can’t help but get involved and he can’t help but pull a trigger.

I think Giraldi was a scapegoat who had some actual accomplishments on his CV. Giaretta hadn’t.

I see it's official that he's left with immediate effect. He was ******* useless, but still, how much power did he actually have? Former scapegoat Giraldi leaving didn't do much for us, remains to be seen whether Giaretta leaving will be much the same

Fair, I jumped the gun a bit, but this is a club who never bothers to announce anything! Knowing what French is like, I don't presume he'll have reported this without knowing, and I don't think he'd report it without the club’s blessing

I don't think the club has the power to appoint a member of the toilet cleaning staff as it's been outsourced and Doris, the tea lady's, termination could result in a lengthy constructive dismissal lawsuit?

I do, for one, because it'll require more funds and pulling power to fill in the gaps in our squad - and we won't have much of those stuck in the Champ.

We were able to get promotion first time around under the Pozzos because we could draw from the talent pool of Udinese and bring in players who otherwise a Championship club in our position could not have afforded or attracted. Now that Udinese don't have as strong a squad, if we can't go up again soon to fill our own coffers we could just end up another West Brom or Stoke Championship non-entity with nothing in the way of a USP vs other Champ clubs.

This season we've not used Udinese, but we've instead been able to bring in a few of the top PL loanees by virtue of being a promotion favourite - that'll also become less likely in future if we get bogged down in the division.

He’s just a fall guy to placate disgruntled supporters, although pleased to see him gone as if he had any influence on football matters he has failed miserably. The problems remain, Pozzo, Duxbury and the financial mess they have got us into.

Only this week Pardew was announced as manager of Aris Thessaloniki, so he is now Gray and Nkoulou's manager. Not content with that, they signed Etebo this week as well.

Does feel like he was thrown to the lions (or in this case the Twitter mob) to stave off any aggro.

I am enjoying the juxtaposition between Andrew French clearly being given the news by the club - yet the club also ‘declining to comment’.

There won’t be any ‘aggro’. There wouldn’t be any of we got relegated to League One.

Few nasty words on forums and social media - coupled with the nicest game-going fans you can get. (That’s not a dig - just saying why it’s very, very unlikely to kick off at games)

Does the next one have to be English? Rasmus Ankersen did a great job at Brentford, but it would be the team around him that made him successful.

Marijn Beuker springs to mind with the work he did at AZ.

Bromby apparently has a massive contract at Huddersfield that includes a £1m buyout clause, can't see us forking out for that!

Ankersen won't wanna be involved as he's part owner (and Dof) at Southampton now, I think most of the team have gone on to bigger clubs as well.

It's high time to scrap the position of performance director full stop, crazy job. The manager is surely responsible for the performance of his team week on week and he knows the squad deficiencies.
Change job title to "head scout" reporting to RE, who reviews recommendations and puts final propositions to SD/GP...
RE will know roughly what his kitty is at any point in time and can juggle purchases or loans accordingly..
If you have a performance director like we've had, you could argue that the incumbent manager is not really "responsible" for the teams general performance.?

Yer, i think him appointing Joe Shields was a great appointment. I was just stating their are others outside UK that we could look at.

I have seen that Eduardo Macia has just been appointed at Spezia, that a good move. You might have some insight once he starts.

Ah I see, yeah. The previous Sporting Director went utterly mad, the full details would shock you. EM basically said that Italian football is entirely run by agents and pretty much every DoF/Technical Director in Serie A is a stooge for a big agency, only Atalanta (and now hopefully Spezia!) operate on their own.

Not a massive amount, but the amount of roles he's had that haven't lasted that long isn't a great sign but could still be explained. That being said Feyenoords recruitment has been good and very varied in the last couple of seasons, players from the traditional markets that Dutch teams tend to buy from (Norway, Sweden etc) but also players from less traditional Dutch markets like Mexico, Scotland, America etc

Given one of the reasons Giaretta was supposedly given the boot was a lack of knowledge of English football, it would be surprising.

Ankersen did a good job at Brentford, but he was also a Dane basically only signing Danish players for a Danish manager.

I don't really know much about Beuker, but if he was so highly regarded then why as he only ended up in the second division of Scottish football?

I don't know why he only ended up a Queens Park. If you look at the transfers they did this summer picking up a lot of young talent it follows the model he had a AZ. Not saying he is the right man, but when they finished 2nd in the league, the squad was filled home grown player. 42.5% of their league minutes having come from club-trained players. They had a wage bill of just €19m in 2019 and revenue of €25m. Ajax spent €92m in wages and had revenues of €199m in 2019. Just a thought....

The picture Burnsy has painted of Giaretta is exactly what I thought he was, just a a glorified middle manager. Gino is effectively chief scout (with Mogi always lurking in the background) but Giaretta was effectively paid to be for the figurehead for transfers, when in reality he was just a pen pusher. As many have said, nothing will change with him gone unless there is a big change in how the club operates. Giraldi was hounded out but have the clubs fortunes got better or worse since?
