What Adolf Sailor Malan ? On a serious note I have grave concerns for the future of the sport in Afghanistan just when it looks like they are on the verge of becoming an established team in all formats if not already in the shorter forms of the sport. Some incredible talents that have emerged playing with a real verve and panache that has been refreshing to any genuine cricket fan. The womens team is already being disbanded and who knows what the future holds for the mens side. Some of that side have already tweeted support for the old regime and used the Afghan tricolore which will not endear them to the scumbags that are in control at the moment. Not only that they still have family in Kabul and we all know that these backward evil killers are not going to change their spots.
Thankfully Chris Cairns is off life support. He suffered an aortic dissection something that is often fatal. Son of the great Lance Cairns he was a huge hitter and skilled seamer. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...s-cairns-off-life-support-after-heart-surgery
Great start. Anderson gets Rahul in the first over. Not sure batting first at an overcast Headingley was the right call. Apparently batting will be easiest on day 2 and 3 so would have bowled first
Amazing that he can still bowl at this standard at the age of 38(?) or so. Also concerning that he is still head and shoulders our best bowler.
Watching Jimmy Anderson bowl is one of the genuine sporting pleasures isn't it? Hope the others can back him up and keep the wickets coming...
Exactly. When India are 375-3 in the session after tea tomorrow we can look back on this morning with pride.
For the first time in my life I might have been right about this! What a spectacular collapse for wickets, 6, 7, 8 and 9
From Cricinfo Teams batting second ending day one with a first-innings lead and without losing a wicket: New Zealand (160/0) vs Pakistan (104/10), Hamilton 2001 England (157/0) vs Australia (98/10), Melbourne 2010 England (120/0) vs India (78/10), Leeds 2021
Just watched the highlights again. The movement off the pitch on that ball that took the 2nd wicket, Pujara, was astonishing and made it utterly unplayable.
First four claiming fifties each. Looks like we've found our test squad (plus the obvious absentees).
First time since 2013. You’d be surprised at some of the names . https://www.espncricinfo.com/series...and-vs-england-1st-test-569243/full-scorecard One being a fellow Orn!
Former England and Sussex Ted Dexter passed away aged eighty six. A skilled and stylish batsman in his day and part of the TMS team from time to time offering a cultured view on the game. A real character who will be much missed. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2021/aug/26/ted-dexter-obituary
