Exactly this. Anyone can defend it if we suspend all disbelief and ignore the evidence of the past 3-4 seasons and assume this is the new leaf being turned. But Pozzo's not earned that patience or (frankly) optimism.

 

It wouldn't necessarily be a new leaf being turned though, as we also agreed to bring in Edwards pretty early before the last season had finished (and we then proceeded to likely ignore any thoughts he may have had on playing staff).

To new manager rumours? Unlikely. Forest did it recently and it was very much the exception.

 

Pretty sure at the moment this is just snowballing rumours after Farioli link in Portuguese press yesterday. No source of substance has mentioned anything, yet.

 

Again, why would the club bother to make a statement about that? On the occasions clubs sometimes address such things it would be with rumours of a permanent manager getting the sack. With Wilder's situation and our season basically already over it doesn't really matter.

 

Doing it a few days before a home game given what happened at the last game at the Vic would be too stupid even for Pozzo and Duxbury surely?

 

They don't care. They'll aggressively manhandle anyone who doesn't drink the kool-aid and clap along.

I would be very surprised if they appoint Farioli now. I always thought he was the manager for the start of next season. Appointment now would mean they can't possibly be expecting him to still be here in August.

 

Giving a manager an 11 game contract and sacking them 6 games in would be peak Watford.

 

It’s background noise while I work and it’s generally very good for breaking sports news like this, but I’d imagine they’ve banned you from calling in to tell them you knew it before they did.

 

Not really a case of Wilder getting the sack (if rumours are true), but more likely the club telling him that they have someone lined up for next season and Wilder agreed to leave with his contract paid up (2/3 months’ salary), which then allows the new guy to see what needs to be done. A mutual agreed arrangement, perhaps. Gives Wilder a chance to get another job for next season.

 

Yeah, that's part of 'the evidence of the last 3-4 seasons' which would have to be ignored to believe this time it is.

Agree with the club, it’s hugely disrespectful for people to speculate on the future of Chris Wilders, and of course they will adhere to the terms of the agreement

 

‘People’ are disrespectful? Our owners have had no problem being it in the past when it suits. Which is why speculation like this comes out. Made the bed, sleep in it.

 

Rumour started by the club so that the confirmation he stays can act as a quasi-new-manager-bounce.
5 straight wins and who knows. There's nothing to say that the 6 teams above us won't all suddenly hit relegation form.

Worth a bet that they won't be there on Saturday-I think only SD was there v Huddersfield. Away on important business or "personal reasons"

 

I suspect the idea of Wilder being sacked was just media outlets putting two and two together and not realising Wilder is only contracted until the end of the season
