Actually, Reading are averaging 11,000 empty seats per game this season, it shouldn't be difficult to get seats in the home area.....

 

Would venture this early development in the Burnley-West Brom game is the worst possible scenario for us. Burnley will still romp, and we really don't need West Brom breathing even harder down our necks/overtaking us. Sickeningly, we must now all be Burnley on this blessed evening.

 

Watching Sheff Utd and they don’t look great at all. They’ll probably win tonight but confident that they’ll start dropping points soon.

 

They will have to show bottom-half-of-the-table form to the end of the season for us to catch them. Ain’t gonna happen.

 

Nice little Hull equaliser wouldn’t go unappreciated.

 

If they got 1.5pts/game (which is just outside the playoffs over a whole season) then assuming they win today they’d be on 84 points.

We’d then have to get 2.21pts/game (42) to overhaul them. I think we’d have to win at their place too. 42pts from 19 games is 13 wins 3 draws 3 losses.

Not impossible, nor unprecedented in this league, but pretty unlikely.

 

Exactly. It ain’t gonna happen. Would take a spectacular run of form from us and a spectacular collapse from SU.

 

I’m still believing because psychotic optimism is the core joy of being a football fan .

Sheff Utd have Rotherham (A), Swansea, Boro, Millwall (A) before they play us. It's not impossible they have a dip and get 4-6 points from that.

If we get 10 points from Boro (A), Reading (A), Blackburn, Burnley (A), West Brom we'd potentially be 8-10 points behind them, with them to play, and 42 points to play for.

It's not likely, and to be honest I don't think we'll be the team to pip them if they do wobble (Boro, WBA?), but imo it's silly to say it's settled already, knowing this division.

 

If if if if. It’s not mathematically impossible of course but the chances of us making up a 14 point gap are much lower than the chances of us not finishing top 6.

It doesn’t counteract yours. It simply states that the scenario you paint is very unlikely (which you acknowledge) and far less likely than we finish outside the top 6. Nothing more.

 

I didn't mention the top 6. We agree it's unlikely, but I do think it's foolish to completely rule it out. Sheff U look good not great, and will have a poor run at some point. Whether they're punished depends on how long that poor run lasts, and if the likes of Us, Norwich, Boro, WBA, have managed to stay within touching distance (9-12ish points) in the mean time.

Again, unlikely, but stranger things have happened in the division, even in the past few seasons.

 

Twine has only played 31 minutes of Championship football all season - even by our standards that's a massive crock.

 

I know you didn’t mention the top 6. I did. We are 3(?) points above 7th and have 11 teams within 6 points of us. We are 14 points below 2nd place. I think it’s very very unlikely we will catch 2nd place, but our place in the top 6 is very much at risk. Don’t you agree ?

The discussion was the supposed impossibility of a team catching Sheffield United. It's possible that 3 teams will be within 12 points of them tomorrow, with 54 points to play for. I certainly wouldn't be popping the champagne just yet if we were in their position.
