Would be a good signing but I would prefer something permanent rather than another loan. There seem to be lots of clubs interested so I doubt he'll come here. Although it may suit him, especially for a loan, given that he wouldn't have to move house.

    Agreed.

Would be a fantastic addition, but I think a lot of clubs would be interested. The only competitive advantage I can think we have is location to Arsenal's training ground, and if they value him highly for the future they might want to keep an eye on him/ injuries etc. If they want to sell him, I don't think we have a chance.

He'd count as under 21 so it wouldn't matter.

Might also benefit us that our last loanee from them was Bellerin.

In saying that I don't think we can have much credit for his development.

I imagine if he goes anywhere it could well be back to Southampton but would be thrilled if we did land him. As mentioned could see a loan possibly happening but a permanent would be extremely unlikely. Think the que from big 4/5 down would be rather long if he was available permanently!

    I don't particularly rate him.

Fairly average centre back and full back. I'm not going to get excited by this just because he plays for the MASSIVE Gunners.

Why would Arsenal loan him to a probable top 6 chasing Southampton, (unless they agreed a loan and buy option). I reckon if the player gets some sort of guarantee to be playing regularly he might choose a loan to us. After all will be no disruption to his daily commute.

I think we should get away from developing talent from teams in the same division as us. Ake did well but I imagine we had to pay through the nose for it (judging by what they wanted for Chalobah), he's not currently a big upgrade on Holebas and Chelsea get the benefit of his year of development. Feels like Chelsea (and Ake) are the big winners in that transaction. I only think it's of benefit if you have a realistic chance of making it a permanent move.

No quota but a certain part of our 25 man squad must be homegrown.

In February we didn't name 8 home grown players, we named 6. One of those was Sean Murray so effectively 5.

So El D is correct, we are in need of homegrown players to strengthen our 25 man squad.

But Chambers wouldn't count toward that.

Ah, is it 21 and under rather than just under 21 then?

And would that change come February when the second 25 man squad is announced or is it age at start of the season or something?

    We don't *need* HG players.

That's true, in the same way that saying you don't *need* a goalkeeper is true.

It's simply a bloody stupid idea not to.

In fact, Murray was included in our February 25 man squad and he was 21 at the start of last season so I don't really get how they define under 21

I wouldn't say we're in desperate need of homegrown players. We have Troy, Cathcart, Watson, Hoban and Anya already and we're clearly targeting youngsters so I'm sure more players like Sinclair will be coming in who don't have to be named in the squad but can play some part.

    It would be nice to have a squad of 25 but in no way is it essential for reasons;

If HG player is good but not great, he'll demand high salary and high transfer so we could pay millions (tens of) for a player who does not necessarily make the squad (Tyrone Mings anyone).

If a player is really great then he'll be out of our price range.

If a player is carp, lets not fill the 25 for no reason. After all Afinkenwa is available, lets stick him in. No I'd rather have 24 too.

Tyrone Mings spent the season out with a serious injury, so I'm not sure you've chosen the best example there...

Whilst I agree with your post in principle, in reality there is a total spectrum and you can't just put all players into one of three categories. There are English players out there at good prices - they're just not as easy to find. Look at West Ham bringing in the likes of Antonio - relatively cheap, at a good age, one of the best wingers in the second half of the season.

Average CB but decent RB .

Is he home grown ? Good news if he is .

What's the ruling on this ?
Is it minimum of 8 or 9 that you have to have in squad or else you get dis qualified. Or is it more or even less than the 8 or 9 ?

I think (but I stand to be corrected) that the rule is that there can be no more than 17 overseas players in the 25 man squad, therefore if we name a full 25 they must include at least 8 homegrown players. Having said that, we do not have to name 25 players if we choose not to, so we could only name say 5 homegrowns in the squad, which would mean we would only have a 22 man named squad.

However, this does not effect those who are U21 as they do not have to be named in the 25, but most importantly they can still play for the 1st team regardless of their nationality. Therefore we can play as many overseas players as we want as long as no more than 17 of them are over the age of 21!

I looked it up actually, according to WD Sport its based on their brithday on a certain date in January.

So Murray was 22 in October so wasn't counted as an U21 (even if he was here all season).

Mean Chambers would be counted as U21 next season

I got confused in my memory of that match between McNair and Evans (who is also a cack Northern Irish defender, but just not quite as cack as McNair)...

Evans is just as good as Cathcart so not quite 'cack'.I don't think you can play 200 times for United if you are 'cack'. Won WBA players' player of the year and fans player of the year this season too.

But yea, he had a match to forget against MK Dons.

You'd like to think there could be a view to a permanent deal here, but Arsenal seemingly overpaid so much in the first place it might be hard
