Q1. John Joe, a door-to-door salesman, was selling a high tech car wax that he claimed was harder than steel. JJ offered one container for £19 or two for £33. He said that his profit was the same either way, and since these were his last two containers, he simply wanted the quick sale. If we take JJ's word for his profit margin, what must each container of wax cost him?
    _________________________________________________________________________
    Answer:
£14 as if he sells one pot for £19 it amounts to a £5 profit.
Two pots would amount to £28, so selling two for £33 again means making a £5 profit.

    £14?

Too late probably but I would say 14 aswell.

£14 is correct, but I'll only give 1 point. An extra point for an explanation.

There goes the extra point. New question later.

If he sold both containers for £19 he'd make ten quid profit. Either JJ is an idiot or there is something dodgy about the goods and he wants shot of them.

Q2. The music stopped and the crowd in the tent watched as the blindfolded man fell to his death. The man was murdered. How did it happen?

    _______________________________________________________

A: It was a circus. The blind man was a tighrope walker and the music stopping was the cue that he'd reached the end of the rope, and to stop.

  10. What STUPID CLOT is going to fall for "car wax is harder than steel"?

    There's some THICK NUMPTIES about.

  11. I know this.

Bloke is a tightrope walker or a trapeze artist. The music stoping is a signal for him to let go or something.

They DELIBERATELY stopped the music early.

    Oh dear

Crowd, tent and blindfold make me think it was in a circus. And the only clue is music, so I assume music was a cue for the blindfolded man to walk or not walk along a tightrope? The music stopped and he fell to his death. So the band/ conductor killed him.

To keep you thinking while the slow old pensioner (Admin) gets another question....

A cabin, locked from the inside, is perched on the side of a mountain. It is forced open, and thirty people are found dead inside. They had plenty of food and water. What happened?

Correct. 3 points and the lead until the next question.

I'm not slow, I was having a nap.

The answer to yours is that it was an aircraft that had crashed into the mountain.

I used to be quite bright actually. I used to have an IQ of 165 but I destroyed my brain with alcohol, amphetamines and cocaine.

Shame RTC, I think you'd like this one.

Q3. Jobi Macastuff and Al Bandana were at the "Soul-Ace Hotel" celebrating their new three year contracts. Jobi said that his position starts him off at $50,000 a year, and he'll receive a $10,000 raise at the beginning of each year. Al said that in his position he starts at $25,000 for the first six months, and gets a $2,500 raise every six months after that. "Well," said Jobi, "since I'll be making the most money for the next three years, the least I can do is buy the next round." Who will make the most money each year, and by how much?
    ______________________________________________________________________
    1st year: Jobi - 50,000; Al - 52,500
    2nd year: Jobi - 60,000; Al - 62,500
    3rd year: Jobi - 70,000; Al - 72,500

    Al by 7,500

I got the same answer as Doug, Al by $45,500.00 After working it out about 25 times!

Jobi by $22,500 after the first year

Actually coming to think of it probably Al as Jobi has probably entered a higher tax bracket, but I don't know the yankee tax so can't confirm that ;)

This questions complicated, each year Jobi would make $30,000 more is that what its asking?

Need to see some calculations chaps!

  30. Cude>2<

    Cude>2< First Team Captain

    Jobi

    1st year
    $50,000

    2nd year
    $50,000 + $10,000 = $60,000

    3rd Year
    $60,000 + $10,000 = $70,000

    Illegal (Al)

    1st Year
    $25,000 + $2,500 = $27,500

    2nd Year
    27,500 + $2,500 + $2,500 = $32,500

    3rd Year
    $32,500 + $2,500 + $2,500 = $37,500

1st year = Jobi $22,500 more than Al.
2nd year = Jobi $27,500 more than Al
3rd year = Jobi $32,500 more than Al

Varies, he makes $5,000 more than the previous years total. But originally makes $22,500 more than Al.

Just sat down to have a go at it, I think I'm way of the mark though..

I worked out that Jobi will earn $50,000 for year one, $60,000 year two, $70,000 year three.

Al Jackanory will earn $25,000 for the first 6 months, meaning $150,000? then every 6 months an additional $2500, meaning that three years later he would've earnt an additional $15,000, taking his earnings to $165,000.

Therefore, wouldn't that mean the Al in fact earns $95,000 more than Jobi?

  32. Y&P

    Y&P Squad Player

I thought there were 12 months in a year.

    1st year: Jobi - 50,000; Al - 52,500
    2nd year: Jobi - 60,000; Al - 62,500
    3rd year: Jobi - 70,000; Al - 72,500

    I think.

So, Al each year by 2,500, although I would have thought that Al's is exponentially larger than Jobi's rather than regularly larger.

  33. Y&P

    Y&P Squad Player

So in total Jobi makes 180,000 in three years and Al makes 187,500.

  34. Cude>2<

What calculation have you done to get the 52,500 out of interst?

No wait I seen it, its a rise on the original 25,000 meaning YAP is correct.

I would like to point out though that YAP hasn't taken into account tax deductions which I think are 20% on £50,000? I'm probably wrong there though.
