It was intended as a humorous point really. Very much tongue in cheek. Sorry if you missed that.

Paying in full until someone finds a new job is very common, even with managers, yes. Often where dismissals are publicly announced as if it’s the end of the person’s employment the fact is most are still entitled to be paid in full unless they reach an agreement on settling their contract (of course unless there’s some sort of break clause).

Not really sure how being otherwise sidelined would be compatible with the job of a manager/head coach, so no, I can’t think of examples of that involving managers. Though as Manga wasn’t manager I’m not sure what that really tells us.

This was a disgraceful appointment and one which had no chance of working given the owner’s devotion to Bayat and useless Giaretta.

How he goes about undoing this prime mess is neither here nor there. There is no positive spin to be had.

Pozzo is an absolute fool as has been demonstrated time and again. We will all save some energy and move on if you just agree without nonsense caveats that you are “pleased they are resolving”.

It’s like the terminating of Gaspar’s contract being good business all over again.

    Some people can’t help themselves.

I said it was a crap appointment that i didn't understand, but I am pleased they are resolving ?
We all thought that Giaretta was useless yet Wilder and Bilic told French that he was really good ?

This is the exact quote from Leventhal as to who did what over the summer "Ismael, along with Pozzo, Giaretta, CEO/chairman Scott Duxbury and another influential voice at Watford’s top table, agent Mogi Bayat, made the calls this summer.". Basically none of the new team had any say whatsoever. We've released Manga, Costa, Tonello and 8 scouts from our recruitment team. We're now using serial failures Pozzo, Giaretta, Duxbury, Bayet and Younger. This is our recruitment team.......plus Ismael and the Udinese current network. This decline we're currently in, is not going to change direction any time soon.

The clue to Bayat and Giretta’s involvements in our summer window was the fact that nearly all the players who joined us have been fairly useless and ineffectual so far.

How long has Bayat been involved with the club ?

Have we had any success under his watch ..

What is he good at? Admin? Look at the garbage that we have recruited since Giaretta came on board. If he’s responsible for that then he is clearly useless. If he doesn’t do that then he’s an expensive layer of bureaucracy which is even worse as he stopped Manga doing his job, and yet can’t be judged.

Sack Giaretta. Sack Duxbury. Save our club!

The fact that Manga (supposedly) got one window that opened 8 days after he arrived, before being sidelined on a 5 year deal is probably one of the most bizarre series of decisions Pozzo has ever made, and there have been a few.

You’ve got evidence before your eyes. If you don’t want to use that and think Giaretta is competent then I can’t help you.

Who cares what average merry go round managers sniffing around for potential future employment might say.

You probably still think Edwards was happy with Gaspar as his RWB?

I'm just saying that others who have worked and do work with him say they rate him. They didn't need to say that. Clearly they see a lot more of him than you or I but if you want to base your view of him solely on the quality of our summer recruitment and some ill-advised twitter pics then that's of course your choice. Everyone and everything at the club is rancid and awful, we get it. The VI thread shows that VI was offered other options which he turned down, including the return of Dennis.

Agree with this. Had big reservations about bringing him in on a deal that long and certainly didn't subscribe to the 'look at the miracles he worked at Frankfurt' point of view but definitely doesn't seem to have had a fair crack of the whip.

Timing is interesting though, we brought him onboard round about the time there were all those reports about Udinese being sold and US investment coming into Watford. Perhaps they moved for him then thinking he would have some money to spend and then when that fell through he was surplus to requirements?

Still, at least we got a couple of club statements put out in his name so wasn't a complete waste of time and money!

In fairness, it's nothing like solely based on the quality of this summer's recruitment (as I presume you were saying there), is it? That's clearly not the entire weight of judgement/evidence on Giaretta at this point.

Just to check are you seriously of the opinion Giaretta is good for this club? After being a constant the last 4 years of recruitment, complicit with the Bayat arrangements and being front and centre of the Edwards debacle. Just so I can check if you are on the wind up or not.

No wriggling. Just yes or no is fine.

I'm certainly not saying I think he's great, just that others who are closer seem to appreciate him. Just seems odd that Bilic, Wilder have gone out of their way to say they thought he was good when it was the perfect opportunity for them to blame him for their failure. We don't know his full detailed remit do we and it's not clear how much of our recent slide can be laid at his door. I'm just saying the forums assumption has always been that he must be awful but others who have worked closely with him seem to be very positive about his impact at the club.

People who have worked closely with him with every reason to blame him as an excuse for their failure have instead praised him.
A few posters on a football forum have decided that he must be the cause of the poor on field results for the last 2 seasons.
They are just the facts aren't they ?

So come along and gather a tiny bit of courage if you can manage it.

Answer the question in the light of all evidence good or bad whether YOU think Giaretta has been good for this football club.

    Yes. Or no.

It's really very simple. I don't know enough about what he does day to day to know, and nor do you.
Those who do know, speak highly of him.
Who knows, maybe we would be in a worse position had he not been around ?

Well I thought the story was Gino’s dad made him rehire him. AF seems to report stuff in good faith with a reasonable amount of knowledge behind what he reports, doesn’t seem the type to report on unsubstantiated rumours does he?

Yes I like AF and trust his reporting though the article says "...is believed to have..." so maybe it was just rumour at that stage. Yes there were rumours that he was to be fired and that Gino's dad blocked it but I don't know if that was true or not.
I wasn't saying I'm a great fan of Giaretta and clearly recruitment has been poor but 4 people who work closely with him, and two who you would expect would be happy to blame him for their demise, clearly rate him. That's all I was saying.

It’s certainly true that in interviews they’ve given, our current Head Coach and some previous ones have said they’ve found Giaretta good to work with.

However, I don’t recall any going so far as to say he delivered them some amazingly good players who made their job easier to do. That surely is one of his main purposes at the club?

Conversely Edwards clearly didn’t rate him, as can be seen by the story re-posted here this afternoon. Other previous coaches haven’t commented either way. And without wishing to doubt what he says, Ismael is currently employed by the club (he’s almost made it through the infamous second international break of the season) and therefore I can’t see him saying anything less than complimentary about a superior.
