Andros Townsend - Newcastle

Am surprised at a lot of the knee jerk reaction to him. He seems to be one of those players people hate.

. We ve got plenty of wide men who aren't quite good enough so if we sign him I am assuming it's to be a first team regular. If QSF rates him that's good enough to for me

 

So who is then?

 

We have Jurado and Abdi who keep the ball and do a perfectly good job, but we need someone who is going to provide another attacking threat. You can't tell me that Townsend won't do that. He has pace, he runs past people and he has a fantastic shot on him. Berghuis is still working away to get in the squad so we still need that genuine wide player who is going to give us another dimension. If the price is right and Quique likes what he sees then can you really question his judgement?

I like him. I've seen enough with both Spurs and England to say he's got decent ability and is a real threat. Great place for him to start again in a system well set to his strengths

 

Well its only a rumour so perhaps you will be happy when we probably don't sign him..

 

He's averaged fewer than 3 assists per season in his career so far and the most goals he's scored in a single season in 6 so, please, tell me where you've plucked these figures of 10 goals and 7/8 assists from?

 

I guess it shows how far we have come in a short space of time that we are debating whether signing a player that is only 24 but has played 10 times for England would be a good signing or not..

 

You were all so quick to back Quique's decision to veto the Iturbe move, now back Quique here too!

My thoughts exactly, and he hasn't done too bad!

 

I see people that hated and berated McGugan wanting to sign this guy..

 

Initially I was completely against this move because like others have pointed out, whenever I have seen him play, which is a lot because my dads a Spurs fan, so I watch their games as well, he runs, cuts in and shoots when most of the time there is a much better option on.

However I'm beginning to change my mind simply because of the work QSF has done so far with the players at his disposal. Townsend will also have something to prove since being left out in the cold at Spurs and will want to show what he can do and that he is good enough at Prem level. This could turn out to be a very shrewd move on our behalf and I would much rather take a risk on a HG player that knows the league, than take a risk on a foreign import who thinks he's the dogs already.

 

Or a Jobi McAnuff version 2.0?

 

I'm not getting why all the hatred for this guy. On the face of it he would appear a decent signing & the type of player we could very much do with. The club like him. On the face of it QSF also likes him. Not a big success at Spurs under the current manager but what does that prove?

What am I missing?

 

An open mind is not a common trait amongst some Watford fans.

I'd purely not sign him on the basis of how he behaved during his short loan spell. Totally different regime I know but still

He has fallen out big time with the spuds management, and looks likely to be on the way out of White Hart Lane in January; could he be a player we would want?

People can change... Look at Troy, from a lad that couldn't be bothered to go to his first trial to one of our key players and not too far off (imo) an England call up

QSF will judge if his attitude still stinks or he's grown up

 

I saw that some spud journo was postulating a straight swap for Iggy - when i had changed my underwear and thought about it - perhaps a swap with them would be ok - provided that is that they offer Kane and Eriksen

Levy will never pay what Iggy is worth so he won't go there.

 

QSF will 'look into his eyes' and then we will know.

 

Levy will never sell Townsend or anyone else to us of he sees us as serious competition/rivals. He's probably already regretting the Capoue deal.

If we beat Spurs we might as well close this thread down.

 

I am genuinely surprised to see so much negativity around this one. I can only see Townsend being a good accusition to the side, he is an experienced homegrown player with good quality. I think it would be an excellent signing and as Watford and Tottenham is is in close proximity and with us looking likely to stay up I feel we could persuade him to come. I know it seems like a silly thing to say because of our recent form and position in the table but I have thought we could do with a pacey winger to give us something else going forward , I understand that we have IA but not too confident with his end product.

We have built a team on working hard and the defensive work of Abdi and Jurado, which is out of their comfort zone, should not be underestimated. As a player going forward I wouldn't mind getting him but will he do the dirty work we are so good at? I'm not sure he would
