How on earth could a small club afford the professor?

He just signed into the wrong account the dimwit.

SSN saying he's surplus to requirement and Wednesday are the front runners now too :doom:

If Wednesday fans want some perspective on how good Abdi is, all you need to realise is that he was considerably, considerably better for us in the Championship than Fessi ever was

That should be enough to get you excited

Looks like I was wrong then.

Abdi will be the first Pozzo signing I will be really sad to see go.

Haven't been overly sad when a player has left us since Danny Graham probably.

Abdi's a strange situation. He's a class above the Championship and oozes quality at that level, but in the Premier League he's just ordinary. It's a higher league of course, but others such as Deeney, Watson, Ighalo, Cathcart etc all stepped up without too much of a problem.

Sad to see him go, but it's understandable as he is behind the first choice midfielders we now have.

Far too good for Sheffield Wednesday. Moronic if let him go.

Yeah, he was that good for us, that he made Fessi look like an average player.

If he goes to Wednesday, I think I will lump on them to get promoted.

WD Sport think we have a bid accepted.

    Flew home from Austria early.

    Absolutely gutted.

Would it be fair to say of the current squad he's probably the second most popular member with the fans? Think most of the fanbase will be absolutely gutted to see him leave, but also understand why.

Even played horrifically out of position he was a decent player for us last season. Around November/December time he was absolutely brilliant.

A real shame to see the likes of Forestieri, Berghuis, Jurado, Abdi and possibly Vydra and Guedioura being moved on without us knowing how good they could have been for us at this level if used correctly. He may have kept us up but Flores really did stunt, hold back and potentially ruin some exceptionally talented players and he should be ashamed of himself.

I'd say so. He personifies a new era of football at Watford, and I don't think I'm alone in saying he's my favourite player to have pulled on the yellow shirt.

Sentimentality aside, I don't really understand the decision. But then I don't understand most of what Pozzo does.

WD understand that he'll sign a 3 deal deal with Wednesday.

Abdi will be the first since the Pozzo era that I'll genuinely be devastated to see go.
One of the originals, professional & classy as ****.

Missed that sitter and cost us the Championship yet I still think he's one of my all time favourites.

    My thoughts exactly.

It's amazing how much joy Flores has been able to remove from this club.

Pleased for Almen that he'll be playing regular football and he'll destroy the Championship once again, but this hurts :'(

Could not agree more with your last sentence. Flores is a beep.

Sheffield Wednesday fans - you'll be getting a player who is superb at championship level, and is the exact sort you will need to help you get promoted. Despite not being used in his natural position last season, he showed that he can also play the role of a utility man, and has a defensive side to his game that only increases his worth. We'll all miss him, but with the higher calibre of player we're going for nowadays and the limit on foreign players in our 25 man squad, it's probably for the best that he goes.

I feel sick just at the thought of this.

Is he good? He'd walk straight into any midfield in the championship and a few prem teams too.

    Can't they have Amrabat instead?

I can understand the emotional attachment many have for Abdi, but he's dropping down to the Championship. That should tell you something.

I was gutted to see Forestieri go, and it's not pleasant seeing another favourite go, but that's football. We are evolving into something even better.

Gone are the days when we let a player like Abdi go, and signed an inferior player to replace him with.

We cannot keep players for sentimental reasons. Had the rules allowed more foreign players, then he would almost certainly be retained, as he is a very good pro, but we can only name 17 players. Every single player has to make a difference. I think we have (and are going to sign) better players in his position.

It's a ruthless business, and this was always going to be the deal with Watford players. Do not get too fond of them.

Great individual, very solid player, very good technically. You will be pleased - assuming he can stay healthy. He will do (or attempt to do) anything the gaffer wants or needs, even if it's not his strong suit. His sole problem in a lack of pace. This is why he isn't really suited for the PL - or the Swiss national side. At the Championship level though, he's first class.

Have to say I agree about QSF.

Under a more progressive manager, we would be starting the new season with 2 very exciting attacking players in Berghuis and Abdi.

I could accept Doyley leaving. I could accept Vydra leaving the first and second time. I could even accept FF leaving. But Abdi is too far.

    Boufal?

Is it bad I'd choose Abdi over him?

  34. ForzaWatford

I agree with you, and he's one of my all time favourites too.

But I'd imagine we've got good money for him, he's ageing & has been prone to an injury for a while now. He's also not likely to be anything more than a squad player for us anymore, sadly.

  35. WatfordTalk

Sure, QSF didn't do much to help him. But, Mazzarri has had a while to look at him and seemingly doesn't think he's up to it. Or there's much better incoming.

Not that any of that makes it hurt any less.
