Alessandro Del Piero has just left his contract at Sydney FC and it is believed that he would be open to a move to the England. He would be a free agent and he can still do a decent job on the pitch (Italian Kevin Phillips). He would add the much needed experience to the team with the likes of Cassetti and Almunia properly leaving. He would also be able to tutor the new talent coming through our academy (Jakubiak, Mensah and Ikpeazu). P.S Im not his agent
Has a proper name and would cost a ludicrous amount of money. It's a 'yes' from me. I have a very old jigsaw with his face on it.
He is maybe my all time favorite player and they say you should never meet your heroes. So it's a yes from me
Never heard of him. But I'm sure any player must be half decent if someone (who is not his agent) describes him as the Italian Kevin Phillips.
Mods.. is there currently an option for the OP to include [SUGGESTION] in bold in the main title when creating the thread? I can't bear 2 months of this!
If he signs someone has to eat someones pooh and thrn do a pooh and eat that. Or something like that! !!!
He my be 39 but he can still do this!!!
Please tell me you're joking? Oh and before you do the inevitable and dislike this comment, he's dog**** now and you'd have to be blind to not see that. He spearheaded Sydney FC's attack, who failed to get into the A-League play offs this year. He's done fark all recently in a worse league and yet you'd expect him to recreate some of his World Cup-winning form in a tougher league with a longer season? :dismay: Sorry to go so hard on you but this is far from a good suggestion.
Just to let you know Sydney did get into the A-League play off's they lost to Melbourne Victory 2-1 :dismay:, but that's not the point. I'm not saying that he will spearhead our attack, I'm saying that he would be a good personality to have around the dressing room and to tutor our youngsters whilst also popping up with the odd goal from the bench.
I'll admit my stupidity there. Forgot they scraped into the play offs on the final day, they were outside of it before then. They were a **** team anyways this season and last season. I know what you were imagining he'd be doing at Watford but he wouldn't even be scoring goals because he wouldn't be playing. He'd be like a slightly better version of what we thought Lucas Neill was going to do at the club. I'd rather get Tommy Smith because at least he's someone people can relate to and has a better chance of scoring goals.
Sorry to point out your stupidity again but they were 6th before the final day (in the play off's) and after the final day they were 5th (in the play off's). I agree with you about Smith but I still believe that Del Piero would add something to the team in the last 10 minuets of a game (something we have been missing this season).
Heskey is not a top player in the A-League he has scored 10 goals in 42 apps and only 1 this season. :sign15:
He used to be a great player, now I just don't see the point in it I'm afraid. There are plenty of others I would prefer to see us sign over him. Im out.
Old Luther has a great personality too. Shall we bring him out of retirement to play the last five minutes of a match?
He doesn't have to be a great player he just has to be in the right place at the right time to poke in a cheeky winner (like Kevin Phillips has done time after time against us).
39. No experience of English football. Injuries that would be brought on by playing at this level. Big time Charlie attitude in the dressing room. Pressure from opposing fans The list goes on.
The A-League may well be League 1 standard but Del Piero could do a good job with in the championship the same way Kevin Phillips has done this season with Leicester, last season with Palace and a couple of seasons ago with Blackpool. Age is not everything.
Vydra no experience of English football, Angella no experience of English football, Forestieri no experience of English football, Pudil no experience of English football, Tozser no experience of English football, Cassetti no experience of English football.
Arguably the worlds greatest striker in his day ... but that was a long time ago and from that A league video I doubt he'd have got many of those shots off against even Championship defenders. However it's a yes from me, he'd be useful to have around and I'm sure he could add to the squad in so many ways. He'll need to get fitter though.
They confirmed it on the final day. Irrelevant of whether they were in it or not before the final day, they scraped the play offs on the final day because they could have still not made it if they lost to Perth and Heskey's Newcastle Jets won. But go ahead and call me stupid again... Del Piero is not even someone who would be able to do what you would want of him on the pitch. Like I said, he'd be a slightly better version of Lucas Neill in that he is match fit whereas Neill wasn't, but Del Piero wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace nor the tough nature of the football. Not to mention that Del Piero is on stupidly high wages that Sydney FC were able to afford (although we could get around that by getting Udinese to buy him and then loan him out to us). Furthermore, Del Piero is one of those players with an ego- I severely doubt he would want to play for us anyways.
Good point but I don't get the connection with Lucas Neill. Neill is a past it CB who hasn't played more than 10 games in a season since 2012. Where as Del Piero is a striker who is still playing and scoring on a regular basic.
Because I can only imagine Neill was brought in for his experience and his perceived ability to boost our CB options (as well as a favour by Nani for Neill so that he could be in the frame for a seat on the Aussie plane to Brazil).
Fair enough but there is a slight difference between winning the League Cup with Blackburn and scoring one of the decisive penalties in the 2006 world cup final for Italy.
I'd love him here. He's still a far better player than Super Kev, and some fans seemed to be dying to have him here. He has won it all, and even as just a coach would be an excellent signing to have about the place. To be able to bring on Del Piero with 5 minutes to go when we are pushing for a goal would lift the crowd, and he certainly has the intelligence to make himself a bit of space. It would put us even more on the map in Italy, as well as be a global name to invite advertising. So let me re phrase the question. Do I want an 8 time Serie A winner, World Cup and Champions League winner around the club on a daily basis, as long as he doesn't cost too much? Of course I do. Reckon he will end up in the Arab/ Chinese leagues though.
