http://www.timesandstar.co.uk/watford-swoop-for-carlisle-utd-ace-tom-aldred-1.726971?referrerPath=sport/carlisle_utd News on a possible new signing no idea of what he's about though! Anyone?
A 19 year old who has made four appearances for Carlisle? We are really in the sh!tter this year. I bet it will go to tribunal and we will have to pay £2m.
Get a grip boys, we're getting a supposedly decent centre back prospect on a free (although I know compensation will be involved). No one would be complaining if it was a 19 year old coming through the ranks at Watford being given a chance or touted about as 'one for the future'. Might be a waste of time, might not, but you all seem a bit quick to judge a young player none of us have ever seen play before or really know anything about.
Agree with Nath. Where do people expect us to do our shopping? I am not excited by the signing, but then let's face it, we're not expecting to see big names coming in are we?
We paid 250k for a 22 year old coventry forward who had only made 4 appearances once, we then sold him to Chelsea for £2.5m 2 years later.
Agreed. None of us really know much about him and he is highly rated, cheap and is a welcome addition to the squad with our lack of defenders. He might end up to be crap but it's not much of a risk.
If he's young, then maybe with Taylor's influence and experiance, could have a good partnership. Or not.
I agree with that. Any signing/youngster deserves a fair chance. Mind you I presume if he is useless after 20 odd games you'll be slating as with Liam Henderson.
Yes I hope Graham get's a hold of him. I'd rather see Bennett and Oshodi come in than the OAP as well.
No doubt he's about 4ft tall, has the speed of a three-legged rocking horse and the agility of an elephant! Well done Manky, you c**t.
good. i have absolutely no problem with us signing a youngster like this. obviously has potential, will be relatively cheap (compensation should not be too much i imagine with only 4 games under his belt). so long as we also get some experience in we shall be ok. everyone needs to stop being so critical.
Hear hear. Without knowledge of the individual merits of this particular player, we should applaud the overall policy of signing cheap, young players with potential with a view to developing them. After all, what are the alternatives? Sign established international stars with unquestionable pedigree? Buy ageing former stars who have no hunger or pace? Loan young players from other clubs and develop them and send them home for someone else to benefit? Of course, I wouldn't be surprised to see us screwed for the compensation. Have you had an accident at work or developed a young, average footballer and allowed his contract to run down? Have you been hurt or injured in an accident which wasn't your fault? Then you could be entitled to 100% compensation.
He's not quick but then part of the problem for England was lack of speed at the back. Must be an English thing...defenders have to be tall and strong but not quick (unlike the forward players..)
Well you'd be sure he wouldn't score own goals! I was talking about the wingers really who tend to be really quick but actually have no end product in most cases.
