I am not saying that. He signed Vydra on a 5 year deal but QSF would give him a chance. Gino may buy the players but if Gueds is not in QSF plans he may struggle to break in
Well QSF did say he wanted a new midfielder, and he's got one who already knows the club and is brilliant. So I'm pretty sure and hoping he'll play him.
I seem to remember QSF discussing AG a few weeks ago, saying that he had heard good things and that he had studied the match videos to help assess whether to sign him. Unless my mind is playing tricks.
Anyone think this was just a plot to placate Watford fans after selling Vydra Forestieri and Angella? "eh Gino, the fans won't be happy you've sold Matej" "Go get that Algerian fella they love, he'll carry the spare kit on matchdays."
Even if Gueds is not seen by Flores as a starter, once he sees for himself his attitude and ability in training and his effect on the dressing room, he will move up the order....we've struggled to break quickly on that RH side, AG will put that right
He was behind a long list of preferred options including Stambouli, Perotti, Vazquez... I'd be amazed if he is suddenly seen as 'the answer'. So he will be used as squad player able to do a job in several roles but not first choice in any. He shouldn't feel too bad about that, it's what seems to have happened to Abdi. I predict Jurado and Ibarbo will be first choice in the wide left and right positions; Diamanti / Ighalo in the centre. I look forward to reading 12 months of complaining on here and twitter about AG sitting on the bench when he could win us games single handed with his pace, energy and world class brilliance
I think he'll force his way into the team. Could be wrong of course, the Prem is way better than the Champ.
Or that Gino refused to back down over Palace's inflated transfer price. Guedioura himself has said he had other offers but simply refused to go. Gino waited until deadline day where he held all the cards. Whilst you might be right about his role in the squad, I think it was more a case of financials rather than being behind on a list. IMO.
probably right but when we are up against it, desperately needing a goal, and QSF decides to bring on a midfielder while Ighalo looks on from the bench with itchy feet, at least he can bring on a midfielder who can make an impact .
Honestly if you are going to keep building him up you are only going to end up disappointed I saw one of his palace games last year; none of the flicks came off and his high energy simply made him look more like a headless chicken chasing shadows He will be a good squad player, will get some games, do a decent job, be liked by players and fans, see out his career with us... be happy with that I'm sure he is
Sorry I can't believe if AG was seen as central to our season that Gino would quibble over a paltry £2.5mill PLUS miss out on having AG for the first 4 games because of some financials. He was quite happy to spend £11 mill for Berghuis and Ivavoo Oravoo who are both prospects and will likely have only a bit part to play this season. It was never about the money. Anyway we will know the truth by season end if AG has played most of the next games
We were never in for Vazquez. It was something made up, posted on here and somehow gained some traction (probably wishful thinking after seeing that amazing YouTube highlights video).
That's fine subract Vazquez add Doucouré instead We were chasing at least 3 midfielders ahead of AG whoever they were
I'm not belittling AG by the way, I'm just suggesting he is not the second coming who will smite the prem with his mighty boots and sweep all before him
I saw a tweet this morning which said something like 'AG is the best piece of transfer business at Watford this summer' On what level did the author think that tweet made any sense? Anyway said my piece; good luck to him, decent signing, glad we have got him, I leave you all to your adulation
Fair point. I think people (including me) are just excited by the return of a player that played an important part last season, particularly as so many others have left - heart leading the head and all that! I agree that he'll be a squad player but I'm guessing he'd be the first alternative if Capoue or Behrami picked up an injury or suspension?
Can't help but wonder if Gino didn't tap AG up a bit, telling him he'd come in at the last minute if Parish won't play ball.
I'm sure someone suggested this as an idea way back in this thread somewhere... I had the same thought and it wouldn't surprise me either
He may turn out to be rubbish for us in the new system that we are now playing but I saw enough of him in the limited opportunities he got for Palace last season to know that he is more than good enough to play in the PL.
