Poor lad just went away to find a trolley to carry the laptop on as, obviously, the weight would exceed the Union USDAW health and safety limits. He found one and was making his way back to Hornmeister with the laptop on board when he realised he had reached the USDAW working hour limits and so he nipped off for a break.

Nothing wrong with that as he was within his rights as a fully paid up member of USDAW. If Curry's continue to deal in laptops that exceed safe weights limits and if they don't have a spare member of staff waiting to cover for breaks, then they don't deserve customers.

i side with Clive on this.

the british public are scum, not as scum as yanks, and mediternean europeans, africans, asians, east timoloians and various nomadic groups, but they are scum all the same, llessor scum but proudly lessor scum.

And it is all feckin Canada's fault.

If they are low paid workers, doing an unskilled job at the bottom of the food chain, they have 2 choices:

    1. Stand around gawping like the parasitic, human garbage that they are, waiting for someone to take pity on them and give them something for nothing as they'll never amount to anything on their own.
    2. Get off their arses and try and excel at their little job. Impress their line manager, take on more responsibility, become a supervisor, get a lanyard with some extra priveleges and an extra 70p an hour, go on some training course at head office and develop some skills which might one day help them to progress to an income which enables them to afford their own Ipad type thing.

If Thatcher taught us anything it's that we need aspiration, inspiration and perspiration to succeed (although I'm borrowing heavily from Edison).

Ahhh if only it worked liked that. It's a meritocracy you're talking about.

Unfortunately our Curry's are often staffed by hopelessly underemployed graduates who can't get a halfway decent job anywhere else. All their talent and learning and education wasted flogging plastic & eletronic frippery to a mixture of over-demanding techno geeks (who've already read 8 articles about the item they're buying on the internet) and a mooing crowd of complete ignoramuses.

Still at least they'll be getting a princely 12p an hour extra from October. So there really is no excuse not to leap like a scalded cat in response to the master's barking demands.

Meanwhile , our companies are seemingly typically led by a bunch of hamfisted know-nothing luddites who are confounded by even the simplest technology, such as their I-Pads. You won't believe this, but some of these so-called 'captains of industry' have even sunk so low as to blame the technology for supposed 'typos' in their right-wing internet harangues.

Yes, I agree, and some commies, masquarading as "peoples champions", seem to have adjusted their technology to only recognise, censor and show left wing and socialist dogma whilst ignoring everything else. This avoids having to answer any questions that may prove difficult.

    OK I'll Bite.

Mr. Clive of the Kremlin you may not have read the subsequent posts so I will make the situation a little clearer for you.

I had been in the shop a 20 mins or so before trying to attract some attention.

Another customer was looking at a similar bit of kit. He was equally annoyed at the lack of service in the shop and collared an assistant to answer some questions. The sales assistant could not answer these queries despite it being "his area" so being a bit cleued up in that area, I helped out, effectively selling the tablet to this other gent. The sales assistant thanked me and I said "when you've finished with this gent can you sell me one". This he agreed to do. He duly finished with the other customer and started to assist me. He checked the stock level on their computer and said "wait there I'll go an get one from the back."

He did not return in a decent amount of time which I estimate to be 10 mins or more

As stated previously I am not one to complain, I merely go elsewhere with my hard earned cash. When I receive good service I complement companies and recommend them. When I receive bad service I report as such so that others do not receive the same bad service.

I have not worked in a shop for more than a day or so, but I have manned stands flogging electrical goods at trade shows at places like the NEC & Olympia. Being on my feet for 10 hours plus without a break. I've also managed a service desk and teams of people performing this type of role, as well as a busy customer service department for 10 years, so I feel I'm pretty experienced this type of business.

This piece of "electric frippery" was the very tablet I use to run the shout box live chat during the match. As such I am now going on strike until my working conditions improve. Anyone using the shoutbox tonight for the match will effectively be a scab and treated accordingly.

I'll bite too......how dare you assume that someone spending £450 is wealthy, it may be a low paid worker who's saved hard, gift money or more likely a benefits scrounger. The reason we have shoddy workers is because it's so hard to get rid of rubbish, lazy staff

I use to work for a retail company, I'm not at liberty to say who it is I use to work for, but I understand both sides of the arguement. Hornmeister having to wait that length of time to be 'engaged' in conversation shouldn't happen, especially if people are stood around not doing much. Having previously been in a position of a sales colleague I know first hand how rude and arrogant a HUGE proportion of the public are. To say 'hello' to someone as they walk into your shop is often greeted with a 'I'm just looking, thanks', to which I use to just reply with 'I wasn't asking if you wanted to buy anything I was saying hello'! To watch their reaction is quite funny. I use to get those responses if I was lucky, usually it would result in being completely ignored, even if I repeated myself! How hard is it to greet someone? So I know first hand how de-motivating it is sometimes to 'get in there' and serve these ignorant c**ts that blanked you a few moments before, especially for sh*t money.

I use to enjoy it, but then again I was on better money than most. I served some interesting and lovely people, sadly that was few and far between.

My personal favourite from customers is 'why are you out of stock?' What a f**cking classic that is! Or the other one was when you were serving someone you would have another customer a few feet away with their arms crossed giving you daggers until you've finished serving. I use to enjoy telling them that I couldn't serve them next as there was a queuing system and they were simply jumping to the front of it!

All in all you do have to live the life of an under-paid sales colleague to understand the mentality. It starts off with the best intentions until you're ground down by the 'thick as sh*t, arrogant and rude British public'. I do enjoy seeing good customer service, but if you pay kids money you're going to get kids work for you!

    Rant over.

So in that case it's OK to provide crap service to someone who hasn't treated them badly and is willing to spend money in their shop thus contributing towards their job continuing? What a bizzare world you live in.

This thread is a disgrace. You should all thoroughly be ashamed.

I'm assuming Curry's man did not have a silver spoon thrust into his mouth while in the womb like some of you lot.

The degradation of society, common sense and brains are not the fault of the lazy server, he is just the resultses's.

Knowing Currys staff he probably thought it was a spoon, but it was actually a fork and he's shoved it in the wrong hole.

When he thanked you, did you notice a slight strain to his voice? A slightly ironic tone? I bet he was thinking, "oh great, another techno-nerd desperate to ostentatiously engage me in a long and dull pop quiz about the most intimate and tiny details of one of the thousands of items from hoovers to hifis that we sell. Desperate to show off his expertise in front of his fellow punter.

Butting in with things like "Oh no, I think you'll find this is the Mark 8b model, which has an extra USB port. Got four stars in PC Nerd mag's review, but it's cheaper off Amazon." and such like

I often see 'helpful' customers like this who butt in to the sale in front of them with unsolicited sales advice. I bet those poor underpaid kids squeezed into uncomfortable polyester shirts and name badges must give an enormous inward sigh when yet another barrack room amateur expert decides to 'help' with the sale.

I'd prefer the arms folded, foot tapping, angry looking ones.

At least they shut the feck up whilst waiting their turn to be served.

Regarding the people saying "hello" when you go into a shop; whatever happened to the underclass only speaking to their betters when spoken to? I certainly wouldn't dignify a plebeian greeting with a response.
