9 points - it's not that much, is it?

Agreed, making up 6 points on what is currently a very poorly performing Forest side is very possible. It all hinges on whether or not we can mentally conquer our away day issues. I think a win against Wigan would be a massive shot in the arm to the team's confidence.

It's going to take a 98/99 level of late season form to make it happen, but as 98/99 showed, it can happen.

We were much better placed in 98/99. After 35 games we were 6th on 53pts, 3 points clear of WBA in 7th. With respect to the late season form we W7 D3 L1 of our remaining games that year. If we equalled that form this season we'd be on 72pts after the final day. That might be enough but as I say the main difference this season compared to that one is we're not in pole position.

Yep, my point was solely about the sort of form required. 72 points could well be enough and I think the squad certainly has enough about it to manage a 7-3-1 record, given the games we have left to play. We definitely started in a better position in 98/99 than we are now, but I also think the points threshold for 6th this year will be lower than 98/99 (which was Bolton on 76 IIRC). 68 points has been enough during some campaigns so I think it's too early to call it over at this point, especially given Wigan's packed schedule and Forest's awful form (this year's Leicester of last season?).

I genuinely think we could do it. I don't see why people are so pessimistic.

I can see this completely underwhelming season resulting in promotion and us all just looking around, scratching our asses and realising that somehow, despite being crap for so much of the season, we are going up.

Well, one thing we can all agree on, is that it certainly won't be boring!!!!!!

I only recently found out that this song wasn't by Paul McCartney. It came as something of a shock to me.

  7. Ha ha - I said exactly the same today when I found it on youtube after sticking the title in. I thought it was part of his 'Frog Chorus' output.

It isn't so much the points, it is the number of clubs we have to get through to get to the spot.

Basically we need to gain 9 points on Forest AND 8 points on Reading AND 8 points on Brighton etc.

To better them all by those amounts could only feasibly be done if we won all of our games left. Brighton need 16 in 24 without us losing, so basically needs to win 4 or 5 games with a couple of draws. Sounds pretty much over.

It isn't impossible, but very unlikely.

  10. I don't doubt your calculations, but could you show your workings please?

On Forest, Ipswich, Brighton, Derby, Reading, Wigan and Blackburn forums they've got an analysis that goes something like this:

"Watford, still have to play most of the top 8 and have a terrible away record".

Yeovil's first shot on goal and they scored... second shot on goal, and they scored again! We should destroy Wigan on Saturday!

Not getting excited, just saying that the so-called top teams are dropping points willy-nilly.

Our game in hand over Reading and Forest will be massive now, although unless we dramatically turn around our away form it won't happen

I wonder if/when Forest lose in the midday kick off at Derby on Saturday, this will provide some motivation going into the Wigan match?

    Brighton v Ipswich
    Blackburn v Leicester
    Birmingham v Reading
    Middlebrough v QPR

Someone has to drop points in the Brighton match. Presumably, a draw would be good for us. Leicester should beat or at least not get beat at Blackburn. If Brum have a good day they'll beat Reading.

I predict a Brighton-Ipswich draw, and defeats for QPR, Reading, Derby and Blackburn. A win for Watford and we're 6 points behind 6th place, with a game in hand, with Ipswich and Blackburn to play in coming weeks.

It's still very much on. We will turn our away form around, starting this Saturday.

I don't like it, because I hate Sannino, but he's taking us up, much to my chagrin.

Ipswich are not great on the road but Brighton struggle for goals so maybe a draw
I agree that Leicester will get at least a point
Birmingham haven't won at home in about 4 months and Reading didn't score last week, with the way their season has gone probably means they'll get at least 3!
QPR a complete bag of sh1t much to my amusement and might be the team not to make the play offs but their home form may save them. This could well be 0-0
    We just need to win!!

  30. Wigan forums saying fatigue is taking its toll. If we get into them from the whistle, could be the win that ends our away run. Bookies are giving good odds - I'll refrain though cos I'll jinx it.

Looking at the table, we're in the same boat as Blackburn and Ipswich. We are 8 points away from the chasing pack, who are Brighton, Reading, Forest and Wigan. QPR have lost all form now as well, so could be clawed back, although they are already on 63 points.

A win at Wigan is a must now, due to our slip ups at Bolton and Doncaster. Even if we win at Wigan, we will still be 8 points behind them. It's basically a very big gap to close at this stage of the season.

All we can really do now is win as many games as we can and see where that gets us. To my mind we will need around 75 points which is another 9 wins from 11 games. 8 wins may do it with the odd draw, but anything less than that will not be good enough.

We won't beat Wigan - simple as that really.
