Will this be enough to secure autos?

The last time where 88 points wasn't enough to secure at least 2nd place in the second tier was in the 1997/98 season where Sunderland finished 3rd with 90 points.

    I think it'll be enough.

We will finish 2nd with 76 points after a string of sensational results in the Championship.

I hope so because that's what we're finishing on.

I'm not sure it will be enough how Norwich and Bournemouth are going.

We just need to concentrate on our results, we must win on Saturday obviously but we also need to claw back some goal difference on Norwich too, we're 2 behind them so we need to get a big win versus Millwall, another 6-1 would be very handy.

Wrong way to think about a trip to millwall! A one goal win will do me.

One or both will slip up. We must not.

I think a draw and four wins would do it. I think that's do able too. Draw at Forest, win the rest. I still think Norwich and Bournemouth are favourites though.

I wouldn't be surprised if we got four wins and a draw, but I can also see Norwich getting the same. We really need a big score line against Millwall and Birmingham to overtake them on GD.

Haven't 'Muff only got games with teams outside the top 10 , left (something I heard/read from the BBC)? This (although after looking at the index trend graphs I don't think it's been updated with today's results) has the 'Muff and Smoggies on 84 with us and Norwich on 83.

    EDIT: It (index) hadn't been updated: 'Muff 85, Na'rch 84, Us 84, Smoggies 83.

  14. Muff have to go to Brighton and Reading, neither of whom are completely safe and both will scrap for every point
Narj have to go to Bolton and Weeds (neither easy) and Boro at home
Millwall and Forest are our banana skins

Nothing is decided yet, but I can see narj slipping up

    I 'd say right now:

    muff
    us
    -----
    narj
    boro
    ?

I can see Muff winning every remaining game. Norwich, 4 wins and a draw

I think it may come down to goal difference

I think both Bournemouth and Norwich will have one slip up each on the run in. Pressure does funny things to teams as the ratchet turns and this year no one has seems awfully comfortable at the top for too long. Friday night will be interesting.

Two years ago Hull didn't win any of their last four games, losing to Barnsley and drawing at home to already relegated Bristol City along the way.

Logic doesn't come into it most of the time in the run in when the stakes are this high. There are still a lot more points there to be dropped and I'd be shocked if any of the top four win all of their remaining games.

By my reckoning Muff are due about 16 sendings off and 14 penalties conceded in the next 5 games as apparently everything evens itself out over a season. Tough run in for the Cherries. Norwich will lose at least one.

Forest's dying playoff hopes will be completely extinguished next weekend if both Derby and Wolves fail to lose so they might not be trying too hard when they play us ... quite winnable IMO and for the rest I'd say only complacency can really hurt us as except Millwall next weekend the rest of our opponents will also be on the beach.

We all just need to keep giving the boys the fantastic support like you all did today. A massive well done to the 1881 and all those who participated. I was unfortunately at work but could see the effects just from watching the highlights. Need to make sure every game is the same as we urge the boys across that finish line! :sign15:

Leeds were supposed to be on the beach...

    Very possible.

On the other hand, we'll be playing against teams who are under absolutely no pressure whatsoever. Sometimes that can work against you, since they tend to play without fear and with absolutely nothing to lose.

Leeds had nothing to play for on the last guy of the Zola season, after all...

Only thing to do for Slav and the lads is to see it like it's 5 finals and give it all to win all five.
Then, at 91 points, it's very, very, very likely that not everyone else in the current top 3 will have done the same.
I'm quite sure this is the spirit that Slav and the players will have.

The Boro v Narich result is the one that will let us in, all we have to do is win our last 5 games which give us 91 points, and I don't see why we can't do that!!!

Those 5 wins won't necessarily give us the title, but it will almost certainly secure automatic promotion, especially if Boro beat Narich or even if they draw.

  25. JH93

I think 5 wins would give us the title. Bournemouth are only one point ahead; if they were two ahead, they could win 4 and draw 1 but still top us on GD. I think we'd win it by a point if we won all five.

Nobody will be on the beach can we stop this theory please.

If we win every remaining game we're definitely 2nd and possibly Champions.

I don't want any other scenario right now. We will beat everyone.

I can't see a repeat of that Leeds game. Not under Slavisa & not with this group of players - especially the one's who played in that Leeds game. You can see the determination in the players, they want this so badly!

We won't win all 5 games, I can tell you that right now

None of the top 4 will, it'll come down to who can hold their nerve and drop the least points. 12/13 points from the remaining 5 is doable for all 4 sides

Norwich and Bournemouth have to be favourites but all we can do is be waiting to pounce. I wouldn't worry about trying to make up goal difference.

That seems a bit strange, considering we're only two goals away from the 2nd automatic promotion spot?

  31. IRB

Disagree, goal difference may well decide it on the final day and we have a couple of games in which we could realistically rack up some goals

Although obviously a couple of 4-0 wins would be nice! Whilst it is unlikely that all 3 of us will take maximum points from the remaining game, the possibility is giving me a nagging feeling and I would really like us to go for it if leading in games to try and overtake Norwich!

10 points will do it, imo. One of AFCB and NCFC will choke.

    Can't see it

They're both on very good runs of form with winnable games to play

The pressure of it all throws form out of the window. Bournemouth showed signs of it today, fortunately for them Birmingham imploded.
