Just want to get a feel for where people envisage us in 5 years time? (realistically)

I have read several people views on us becoming the Pozzo's flag ship, because of the financial rewards of Prem football.

Would you be happy with Mid-table Prem status every year? Or do you think they will target a similar approach to Udinese?

Would enjoy reading other people views.....

Where were Udinese before they go taken over?

If they were Serie B - why can we not dream of Champions League?

We'll be comfortably mid table Prem in 5 years, reaching semi finals of FA Cup and League Cups. We'll be challenging for top 6 within 10 years if the Pozzo's stay.

Pozzos took over in 1986 in Serie B -

Udinese won the Intertoto cup in 2000

Pozzo's took over in 1986 Serie B. 10 years later they finished 5th in Serie A.

There is a lot to be done in 5 years time. 1 year of that will still be playing Championship football. Football will change with the new FFP rules within that time too. I'd like to see us comfortably sustaining premiership football, hopefully top half of the table.

We will never get in to the Champions League.

You can't simply compare us to Udinese and their rise.

It's arguable that outside of the top teams in Italy, there isn't a great deal there, so easier to rise to the edges of the top so to speak.

    How so?

AC Milan, Juve, Napoli, Inter, Fiorentina, Lazio, Roma.

Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton.

Who knows? The Premiership is a different beast to Serie A. Will other teams catch on to what we're doing. Will rules be changed to make things tougher to do what we're doing? One thing I do believe though is that marketing and packaging an attractive product can grow your fanbase around the world no matter how mahusive your club isn't. We are already getting some Italian fans following us due to the Pozzo model and we haven't even hit the Prem yet. The possibilities are truly vast but they are just that, possibilities. I can certainly see us filling out a 25000 seater stadium if things continue. Can't help but think that playing the "beautiful game" as opposed to "hoofball" will bring in far more supporters.

To be fair there is a lot more in he way of experience and resources behind us as well. Udinese was new ground for them. We aren't so much.

Difference is the money. Italian teams can't buy the best on the market (apart from the odd exception), whereas English teams spend £50m+ a year and still don't make the Champions League.

True. Remember that we'll be getting all that money without wasting it and with the best scouting system in the world.

As we become more succesfull, we will rely on Udinese far less than we do at the moment due to the amount of momey we will get. We will still use the scouting network obviously, but they will come directly to us, so if they want to change the rules I'm all for it as it will stop anybody else doing this.
In 5 years I would like to be at the level of Stoke, not the way they play football but mid table and comftable. Maybe a cup final

  15. In 5 years I think just breaking into Prem top 10 with a league or FA cup in the cupboard.

Can we resurrect this thread on 01/08/2018 when we are entering our 4th year in the Kit Kat Premiership.

We would have just gone through the 3rd qualifying round of the Nestle Champions League where we knocked out Galatasaray on away goals.

We narrowly lost in the Charity Shield to Liverpool who had won the 2017 title....

Last season we won the FA Cup with a win over Everton (Revenge) with Acuna netting a brace... it made it our best season ever after finishing 4th!

In 5 years time I would like to think Watford are an established mid table Premiership club. After that, we shall have to wait and see.

Even though the footballing and hierarchy styles are very different - I would expect us to be in a similar position to how Stoke were over the last few years. Fully established in the Premiership, able to bid decent amounts of money for players from money out of the Watford revenue pot, and even possibly a European tour in the bag.

Yes - We have never won the FA CUP!

and our best finish in the premiership is 20th so 4th and FA Cup win definitely makes it the best

I would include the old division 1 as that was the top division.

We still haven't won the FA Cup before so I would certainly say that would be our best season ever ;)

Either way I was defo in dreamland for a bit!

I would be happy to finish 14th in the prem

Mid-table obscurity in Premier League or whatever guise it will be under in five years time. We may have had to go up, come back down, and go up again within the five year period, from thereon though a more stable future beckons - maybe a cup final or two thrown in for good measure.

All this based on the fact that the Pozzo's remain in charge, and that there are still loopholes to be exploited!

The Premier League is the best league in the world. It's where every club wants to be. I hope we get there before Udinese or Granada.

the point here is that below that layer of top teams there is less quality. Watching a lot of Serie A football myself, the quality of play in the bottom half of the league is generally mediocre when compared to that of the prem

Not anymore. 5 years ago the best in the world were coming to these shores. Now, players like Neymar, Isco, Higuain slipping through our grasp. La Liga now a bigger drawer for top players.

Does anyone know where the Pozzo's have made their money, other than football?
As far as I can tell it is a business, and us being in the Prem is key, I have a feeling they will be here for quite a few years to come! Fingers crossed....

Pozzos sell club back to Bazza who has in the meantime become a multi billionaire by virtue of his numerous highly successful companies. Bazza makes his daughter Chief Executive.

I would hope we would be relatively well established in the top flight, by which I mean finishing one place above relegation would do me every year.

I would dearly love to see us play in a European competition.

Joke 5 years time- scum town are above us.

Serious 5 years time- hopefully: mid-table Prem side
    out of debt
loads of money put back into our academy a la Granada
no proper reliance on Udi Gran players (i.e just the odd one/two)
some of our academy hot prospects (e.g Armenakas and Ogo Obi) in the first team regularly
Vic Road properly developed to its max (we might have a small fanbase but we're in the biggest plastic region of the country)
the future being effin bright and not like a bog-standard mid table Prem side

The season after next you can Qualify for the Champions League by Winning the Europa League.

Not Saying that we can win the Europa League in 5 years just saying that there is a possibility for lesser teams making it into the CL

I honestly believe that the Europa League is a distinct possibility. After all, all we have to do is win the League Cup (which I think we might be able to do in the next five years!)

Whilst I think that the Champions League is unlikely, I do hope we've reached some minor European finals, such as the Cup Winners' Cup, or the Intercity Fairs Cup.

We'll be struggling to stay up in League 1 after it turns out Bas is owed 90 million by the Pozzos and we'll have to sell all our players on the cheap. Iwelumo will be back and become top scorer with 3 but will die the next year from old age.
