To be fair my post doesn’t apply to Twitter. Those guys just keep going whatever actual evidence confronts them!

 

We have 18 non-homegrown players and can only register 17. Don’t know why we didn’t cancel Tufan’s loan, but there you go.
Nkoulou’s injury will keep him out for at least half of our remaining games, and I suspect it will be about 11/16, so surely he’ll be one to miss out.

We already know Rose will be one. Toss up between Gosling and Fletcher for the other.

 

Doubt we had option to cancel on Tufan or as you say surely we would have done it. Gosling more use than Fletcher I think who was just a really dumb signing.

 

If King gets injured we'll need a striker on the bench you'd think so I can see Fletch making the squad. With Louza, Kayembe, Sissoko, Cleverley, Tufan, Kucka and Etebo available I would have thought Gosling will miss out.

 

So it does appear that Quina is now back with us after all and not signed for Barnsley.

So, we're now overstocked by 4 players. I think we need to register the squad at some point today, so we'll get our answers as to who's culled quite soon.

Is there a loan window that opens after the main transfer window closes? I know that used to be the case in the past, but not sure what the situation is on that these days.

Since my last post, the club have now stated that Quina has indeed gone out on loan to Barnsley. So that's now just three to get rid of. Official: Quina Joins Barnsley On Loan - Watford FC

So, if there is no way of loaning elsewhere, I suspect three will have their contracts terminated. My guess would be Rose, Gosling and Nkoulou.

 

How are all those loan fees going?

I see Austria is one of them, maybe Bachmann could still go, and there are quite a few other windows that are still open so maybe we might still manage to get rid of some of our vast quantities of dross

Quite a few people on Twatter this morning making the argument that we don't have money. I get that the pandemic was unprecedented and probably hit the club hard, but for years the club have handed out ridiculous contracts and paid players ridiculous sums of money. Now we're having to deal with cutting back and it's left a bizarre mishmash of players with barely any quality.

Just look at the squad list now. We have 15 players that have played less than half the available minutes in the league, not counting the new signings or Nkoulou. The squad is full of players who are either picking up regular injuries or just aren't deemed good enough by the head coach. Out of the 9 players that have played over 900 minutes we have Cathcart, WTE, Kucka, Bachmann and Kiko. Players like these shouldn't be playing the majority of games for us!

 

Ship Gosling out to Australia or something. He'll relish playing against the likes of Mariappa.

 

So that's Tufan and Rose gone. Probably leaves Nkoulou as the last one to miss out?

 

Nkoulou only a few weeks away , so hopefully he ll be back in early March for last 10-12 games .

 

We basically paid Gosling for 18 months to score a goal against Norwich.

 

Worth every penny

It's funny that we have an Austrian, Nigerian and Norwegian international that count as home grown. I bet Ian Holloway is circling them on his notepad at the moment.

Well, at least it confirms he’s signed for us. At least I’m pretty sure the club haven’t announced it.

 

I see we have named all 25 squad members, so we have left no room to bring in one of Gino's free agent "Bargain Bucket Buys". At least I think that is the case? However if we were to end the contract of one of our new 25 man squad for any reason are we allowed to replace them?

Does anyone know this?

 

Who could’ve predicted that giving Gosling a 2.5yr deal and giving Rose a 2yr deal would come back to haunt us?

My guess would be that the bargain bucket is more appealing in the summer as contracts tend to run out then instead of January. So using all 25 spaces now is all part of Gino master plan
