Gomes Pantilimon Karnezis Bachmann Djedje Janmaat Holebas Femenia Zeegelaar Prodl Britos Kabasele Kaboul Wague Mariappa Cathcart Capoue Doucoure Chalobah Cleverley Watson Hughes Amrabat Pereyra Zarate Carrillo Richarlison Success Deeney Okaka Sinclair Gray Running totals: Non HG - 20 (3 over maximum) HG - 9 Combined over 21 players - 29 (4 over maximum) U21 - 3 So the final reckoning is that we're four players over the squad limit... So who won't get a squad number or will be loaned/sold to Spain/South America/China in the next 24 hours/2 weeks? At least three of them have to be non-HG. My guesses: Pantilimon, Djedje, Mariappa and Zarate. We've also got Success and Sinclair not taking up squad places but way down the pecking order (and in Sinclair's case way, way down). Here's my guess for what will happen: Zarate will go on loan to Argentina to regain some fitness; Success will go on loan to Spain; Sinclair will play in our u23s; Djedje, Pantilimon and Mariappa will just chill out and collect their wages for doing a bit of training.
Does an u21 NHG (ie Richarlison) count as a non HG or as an unlimited u21? If the latter then room for Okaka or Zarate
Agree Djedje, Pantilimon and Mariappa won't make it. You may also be correct that Zarate will miss out, but that one is harder to predict imo.
Can still sell to Spain for the next 24 hours apparently Okaka linked with Sevilla and Amrabat linked with a number of 'Athletic hattrickforMessi' type clubs Perhaps Kaboul sent to the glue factory as well
Can see the possibility of Karnezis's loan being cancelled, as I am sure he was brought in with the view that Pants would be moving on. Well, that, or if Pants wasn't seen to do enough to sell himself (when players want to go, I get the idea that Gino expects them to do the leg work), then maybe Pants'll be left out of the squad for forcing Gino's hand. I make it four players over, as per my nice colourful chart here...
I'm worried about ditching Dja Djedje when I have so many concerns about Janmaat's ability to stay fit: it would be a nightmare to make way for Janmaat, then find he's only available for half the matches or less. Probably just worrying over nothing. That said, I have the same concerns about big Craig. One of the 'keepers has got to go surely? Someone mentioned Spain being 24 hours behind, with Okaka maybe going to Seville, but there is also the Chinese league, which, if parallel with the winter window, could be open for another few weeks, and, if Zarate is going back to Argentina when fit (was mentioned months back), I was thinking that the South American transfer windows are not in synch with ours (do they have a mid season window coming up?).
My 25 man Squad would be Karnezis, Gomes, Bachmann Femenia and Djedje (Janmaat is a snowflake and a waste of a squad place). Prodl, Kabasele, Wague, Cathcart, Kaboul Zeegelaar and Holebas Chalobah, Doucoure, Cleverley, Capoue, Hughes, Watson Carrillo and Amrabat Pereyra and Zarate Richarlison (u21) and Success (u21) Gray, Deeney, Okaka, Sinclair (u21) 17 foreigners 8 HG 3 u21 Missing out Pants Janmaat (unfortunately though he will be picked over Djedje) Britos Mapps Hoban That's what I would go with right now. Obviously with the Spainish window still open. If we do sell one of our foreigners then that would bring Britos back in. Sell 2 foreigners and snowflake will be back in.
I agree that Jaanmat is an injury liability. He overextends in the tackle or going for the ball, does not stretch or warm up properly or something like that. His injuries are self-inflicted. However DD has hardly played and has not been picked by either coach. Also has had injury problems. We now have Femenia as cover and for that reason he is toast. Pants, Okaka and Amrabat (even Success) might still end up in Spain today. There might also be Championship loans going through last night at 1am to be announced this morning. Hoban is definitely out of the 25 and possibly Cathcart until January as we don't know his condition. Still hoping Zarate makes it unless he is set on returning home. Maybe some twists and turns to come.
I would add that Britos could be the one at risk. I fully accept that in some games he has been sound but last weekend's debacle proved he is now either too slow or his decision making is really poor to be so reckless. Kaboul and Kabasele have much better pace and mobility, plus the latter is starting to show more. Could be shipped out to Spain today? I am sure Gino and Silva will be looking at the wider reputation and discipline issues after getting two red cards so early.

I wouldn't see Britos missing out, unfortunately. I suspect he's still quite close to the front of the queue for cbs.
Te only purpose of bringing Wague in could only be if Cathcart or Kabouls injury is going to keep them out till near Christmas. There would be no point going with 6 CB's Mapps and DjDj's place depends on how injured Janmaat is. Fair chance Mapps will go out on loan to a championship club for a few months
Britos is pretty key really. Over the last two years while the other centre backs have spent months in the treatment room or lost form from time to time he's been consistent. One hilarious tackle doesn't change that.
I can see Pants, Hoban, Mapps, Zarate, and Djedje losing out unless Some others go out on loan which would change it slightly
Loan to where? Marriappa, Pantilimon and Hoban will not get a place, anyone's guess as to who the other will be.
Britos left footed + (as others have said) one of the better injury records amongst the defenders Also doubt he will miss out
Pantillimon, Dja-Djedje. And I still have a sneaky suspicion that Okaka will find a move before tonight. Sevilla? Could be Zarate if he’s angling for a move but I’ve seen no solid evidence of this and I’d rather keep him as a backup No.10 who can also act as the 3rd striker. That would give us 3 strikers who can all do different things rather than having Deeney/Okaka who are very similar and Zarate has played as a striker before let’s not forget. Obviously if Zarate does want to move though, he’s left out and Okaka stays. I do think this whole 25 man squad thing is something that needs tailoring though by the FA. The fact that Hoban (injured though I know) and Mapps could miss out despite being homegrown is stupid. The restriction should be on overseas players only. I’m still quite shocked we have gotten to today with Pantillimon and Dja-Djedje still here though. The writing has been on the wall for Pants for months and Dja-Djedje must be fuming with himself for ever coming here. To miss out on 2 PL squads and still not able to move would be cruel - even if he is being paid handsomely to do so!
Haven't read any posts but wanted to say that if certain players are judged to be injured long term then they may be left out and a decision made in January. i.e. Cathcart, Zarate. Also there are different windows worldwide so we may send one to Spain today or send elswhere when their windows open.
Considering there is nothing that’s time critical such as PL games this weekend, it’s stupid the squad has to be filed with the Premier League at 4pm today. Get all the European transfer windows shut and then do it 24hrs later. I know it’s unlikely as they just wouldn’t sell anyone named, but a scenario where we name Okaka and leave out someone else, then get a bid at 9pm for Okaka from Sevilla that we can’t viably finanacially turn down is stupid, especially if the player wanted the move - especially when it’s entirely avoidable.
It is - restricted to 17 overseas players. We can have as many Home Grown as we like within the 25 man squad. i.e. 23 home grown + 2 overseas or 10 home grown + 15 overseas - that's how it works.
Yes I get that but I think you misunderstand what I meant. It’s the limit of 25 that I have an issue with. In this day and age, most clubs will fill their squad with 14-17 overseas players. Leaving 8-11 spaces for homegrown for example? The limit should be 17 overseas with a higher limit of spaces for homegrown. The limit for homegrown should be capped to stop clubs stockpiling them. But maybe it should be tailored to squads of 17 overseas, 8 homegrown - with a remit you can have over 8 homegrown if any of those extra players were originally trained and cultivated at the same club? ie.Mariappa for example?
Squads are usually fixed the day after the window shuts but I expect given the Spanish delay the PL have extended it until Monday now.
Cathcart's injury must be bad. Or the club have lost faith in him being able to keep fit. Zarate is a strange one as he's versatile in those front 3/4 positions and a bit different to what we have. Played 45 today so I thought he might sneak in. Poor Djedje must be wondering why he ever joined us.
