I know you're keen on it, but would you not agree #DeeneyDay is extremely cringeworthy, and embarrassing? Yes, enjoy and reminisce once in a while about these moments, but to have people on twitter act like they just happened yesterday is embarrassing.

The day was a good one, but the night was even better. I got home so late and so drunk that Mrs Diamond didn't speak to me for days afterwards. What's the point in living if you can't celebrate the moment?

Considering we're not Man Utd the hits that clip got at the time was incredible. I even had phone calls from strange Germans that I hardly know.

As daft as it may seem, that goal is IMO set to be iconic, it may get forgotten now but it will almost certainly get dragged up from the archives from time to time and not just with WFC success.
Not quite the beebs "they think it's all over" but Sky missed that one, this could be theirs.

The fact that some of our fans even think like this is embarassing. It's forgotten everywhere else, apart from as a piece of trivia and as a topic of conversation for speaking to Watf0rd fans, alongside Elton John and John Barnes

There's a balance to enjoying the memory, and overkill to the point if ridiculousness.

I think it's quite reasonable to compare England winning the World Cup and Watford winning a play-off semi final.

I haven't actually tweeted about it, and I only put it on my earlier post as I wasn't sure what else to finish with. It is a bit mongy but let's just enjoy the memories rather than critique how it's being remembered!

Is #DeeneyDay followed by #DeeneyBoxingDay, where you get in a big fight and do as the great man did and kick a man in the head?

Ahhhh unlucky Filbert. We're celebrating #Deeneyday while you Lesta lot are probably still crying about it! What's that? You're looking forward to Premier League football next season? Oh...

Haha, well for the record, it was an amazing moment and certainly one to be proud of. (Though you don't need me to tell you that!)

As promised, I have watched it again for the first time. I avoided everything to do with football apart from the Confed Cup last summer to be sure that I didn't have to watch it again and I was somehow successful. The goal is precisely as I remember it, every painful detail.

I watched the game on a stream in my uni halls bedroom. I'd been out the night before and almost forgot we were playing. As I switched on, Vydra scored that volley and calmed my stomach in a way. I always prefer to watch us come from behind in important games for some reason. The rest of the game is a blur to me until the penalty. The lad in the room next door to me last year was also a City fan but we didn't watch the game together for some reason....Anyway when Knockaert was brutally assaulted and the ref blew, I pounded on the wall screaming 'THIS IS IT!!! THIS IS ****ING IT!!!!' He stepped up, and so began the longest 20 or seconds of my entire life.

I was speechless at first. Not angry, not heartbroken. I gently closed my laptop without closing the window that was showing the game, so the fevered but muffled screams of the commentator were still emanating from the lappy. I scooped a pile of books into my bag and headed off for the library. I actually walked the whole way there with an unlit cigarette in my mouth, so dazed was I. I had an exam the following Tuesday or Wednesday, so revising was pretty important. But I sat there staring at the same page of an open book for ages, trying to ignore the texts of derision and consolation flooding my phone. I got 43% in that exam. (That's 4% off a fail, a low-third)

Still one of the most vivid and strange days I've had as football fan. In some ways it feels like yesterday, in other ways a lifetime ago. I still don't fully understand the reverence that surrounds the goal, but then I'm not Watford fan, contrary to what some on this site say.

3800 likes on an American website which dislikes football (soccer?). Sorry but I think you're wrong, it still gets dug up. Stop moaning and let people celebrate it if they want to.

Hmmmm gotta love some of those comments though...

The title for this gallery is all wrong. To truly appreciate what happened here, you need to understand the aggregate rules over home and away legs in European Football. The long and short of it is, Watford (Yellow) needed to score to advance. If they didn't score, Leicester (Blue) would advance on aggregate. Leicester scoring on the penalty wouldn't have just tied the game, but put them through to the finals for sure. The fact that Watford stopped the penalty and came down the field to score is the truly dramatic aspect of this because it not only secured the game, but won the two-game series, allowing them to advance to the finals.

    Translates to an American as:

Soooo, bottom of the ninth. No outs, bases loaded. Relief pitcher comes in and strikes out the side. Got it. Thanks!

For me THAT goal made all the sh**e games I've experienced as a Watford fan worth it. It's as if the cumulative effect of all the drab s**t I've experienced over the years as a Watford supporter built up into a brief period of absolute elation. I don't understand what is wrong with reminiscing about a moment which encapsulates the highs and lows of supporting an ordinarily mediocre team like Watford. Yes Leicester and Palace are now Premier League teams, but that brief period of time is worth so much more to me personally than having a season or two in the Premier League. I honestly believe that those emotions cannot possibly be replicated through Premiership survival.

    Yes, in this particualr incident.

We let ourselfs down against palace without doubt, but there will always be another chance at achieving promotion at some point in the future- its not like we havent been in the prem twice already. Will there ever be a moment like the play off semi again and if so would i be there again to experince the emotion first hand? I highly doubt it.

I genuienly knew as soon as Anya plucked it out of the sky we would score

I missed Anya's touch. I was too busy jumping and shouting after Cassetti's clearance, I turn around to look at the pitch again and Forestieri has just crossed it into the box

It's all a blur between the save and the cross flying across the box. I remember it as there being a continuous celebration and roar from the save to Deeney's goal. At first I thought Fernando had over-hit it but as soon as Hogg headed it down and it fell into Deeney's path seemingly in slow motion I knew it was in.

I remember jumping around like a maniac without looking at the pitch, hugging people I'd never spoken to before and when I turned around seeing the flare and people streaming onto the pitch and legging it down the stairs myself. The scenes in the stand when that went in and then on the pitch were just indescribable.

I am still gutted I missed it having walked out of a bar in disgust at the penalty decision. 35 years of watching us and missed that! It still will never top October 4th 1997
