Agreed - not at all vouching for the source of the information. Just commenting on the fact that with Watford it's worthy of note that we might receive a transfer fee for selling a first team player.
That account is hilariously bad. But what I will say is, the idea that Watford will actually be getting a fee was written by Andrew French so he’s just copied this one, rather than made it up.
I thought he looked a reasonable player. Mind you I liked Angella, and no one seemed upset when he was replaced by Prodl, and he ended up at the hated QPR.
Yeah, I'm not claiming it's not true, just that no conclusion can be drawn about anything based on anything he says about anything.
My choices would be one of; Hause at Villa ****ie at QPR Clarke at Brighton Edwards at P’boro Colwill on loan from Chelsea Greaves at Hull Cooper at Millwall Atkinson at Bristol City Peterborough won’t get anywhere near that. The figures I’ve seen reported for hi. Are between £4-5mil which is a lot more realistic. Granted I’m sure Peterborough will try to get a bidding war going but no-one is going to pay £15mil for a player who has played one season in the championship. The reality of what we end up with though is Chris Mepham. The worst of the bunch and cheapest option.
We’ll always have that sensational raking pass he knocked from left to right in one of his first games. Sadly, we’ll also always have him falling flat on his face against Norwich and letting that absolute whopper Sargeant score twice against us.
Edwards, ****ie and Mepham are all right footed. French said that all the targets he’s been told about are left-footed.
Of the lists banded around I'd go with Hause. More than good enough at this level and a good age for a CB - we need someone that will start next week.
Matt Clarke would be absolutely perfect - available, left footed, good age, knows the league and ready to start straight away. POTS at his club last two seasons in the Champ too. Welcome Alfie Mawson.
Is he injured? Matt Clarke then haha. Last thing we need is a right-footed Troost or Kaba trying to pass out from defence.
Would be interesting to see if we could get Clarke on a perm, doesn't seem to have a future at Brighton and will surely be looking to put some roots down somewhere now after 2 good loans Contract up next summer as well
Yes you’re right. Sorry. I’m always too premature! I agree that Clarke would be a good signing. As I mentioned earlier, Hause has a connection with Edwards from Wolves days but so far this window we haven’t recruited anybody with ties to our new Head Coach (Wilson being the obvious example) so it doesn’t seem to be the way we are going in raiding his contacts book etc.
I've heard he got his contacts book out and politely put it on the desk but Mogi then got out his filofax of garbage and slammed it on top to show who the real boss is.
I believe the Bayo deal was just dodgy dealing which will probably be scrutinised over the next couple of years by the authorities. £5m for him was just bonkers when you consider we run a mile from paying a fee for anyone seeing as our financial situation is so precarious. You just don’t spend £5m on a backup striker in such circumstances.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think Bayat now controls our recruitment along with Gino. He got his foot in the door at Nantes, is now their unofficial sporting director and he's in the process of doing the same here. Pretty soon every incoming and outgoing will involve Bayat and he'll get some lovely commission heading his way. In my opinion obviously, I don't want to upset anyone.
So from Leventhal’s piece (and I think it’s largely speculation with some nuggets of actual information thrown in): Clarke and Hause decent candidates. Some wary discussions with Clarke but lots of Championship interest and may be one for later in the window. Hause just had surgery but should be back shortly but Villa will want to wait until the end of the window/a replacement comes in. Colwill previously of interest but headed to better things. Greaves subject to enquiries earlier in the summer but too dear at £5m-7m.
To be honest it sounds like AL has just read the forum and picked the names that we've all suggested.
Edwards is being completely stitched up. If we literally had to use a left footed centre back in pre season who we knew was leaving as its so vital to his system, why the **** are they making him play 7 games with Craig Cathcart there to start the season? Complete idiots honestly.
I think the last line should read “Greaves now deemed too dear at 5m to 7m, now that those funds have already been used on a transfer to benefit both of the Bayat brothers which as always is deemed priority one”.
Agreed. I think the two little nuggets was the point re the Greaves enquiry/price and the suggestion that some early conversations have taken place re Clarke.
Lol I missed the part about Samir telling us earlier in the summer that he wanted out. I know you have to wait for replacements to become available but **** me we've had weeks to sort this out!
