Surely you can see the difference here...

Pollock looks to be a promising signing - but he obviously isn't going to impact next season.

Fletcher is ****, but if we manage to shift the rest of our overpaid **** at the club, he has the advantage that he is underpaid ****.

Danilo was an important player when his club won the Copa Libertadores last year.

British players are shyt, as evidenced by the fact that british nations never win anything at the world cup/european cup. Why the hell would we want to sign them? It's laughable.

    Nice.

When Pedro arrived with the body of a whippet it didn't take long to discover he has the attitude of a boxer and is up for the fight.

My comment was clearly a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Though given the bedwetters would have likely seen as little of this guy play as any of our signings they're as quick to slag-off, I think there's also still a smidgeon of truth to it.

433 surely back in the day

    defenders 2-5
    Midfielders 6-8
    Forwards 9-11

    no subs of course

those were the days. I was the Jack charlton tall skinny number 5 but so slow - as in the shout from the touch lines “I’ve seen milk turn quicker than your centre half” (not “centre back”)

That is how I have always thought of it, although I guess 4 and 6 are slightly more interchangeable than most. I remember the outcry when William Gallas was given the squad number 10 - despite being completely meaningless it's just weird.

If you don't get more excited about a random Brazilian wonderkid than a centre back from Grimsby are you even a football fan?

Ha, sure, but there's still a slim chance they could turn into another Iriney or Neuton.

Get with the times, grandad! This guy is clearly a deep-minded enganche. He's capable of playing as a 6 or an 8, which makes him an 'inverted 14'.

Also noticing a lot of #26 goalkeepers... Foster was, now Bachmann, Emi Martinez, Dean Henderson among others.

Is it only 6, 8 and 10 that are roles not just numbers anymore? What's the difference between a 7 and an 11? Please help @footballhipsters - if you can explain by only using Italian and Spanish terms that would be much appreciated. Doble pivote!

Surely it should be a 24 - given it's the lowest number divisible by both 6 and 8?!

If we are truly after this guy, we should definitely try to get the deal done asap. It's the middle of the Brazilian season and it would be good for Danilo to have some sort of a break before joining us for pre-season. We could do without him burning out after 3 months (a la Richarlison).

I'm hearing that he is in fact good, if not best, friends with Joao Pedro. After all they are both Brazilian, similar ages and play football for a living.

I'll update you when I know more.

Apparently the club are also about to offer Gomez a five year deal so he can help him settle in.

I’m personally happy about this type of singing, I think the problem is it surely takes up what will be a large part of our budget.

Only time will tell if we add some actual proven quality to the team, so it’s hard to comment too much at this stage, but if we spend half out budget on this player then it clearly won’t leave much.

We could end up in the same scenario as when we bought Saar albeit a cheaper version. This lad is clearly one that falls into that category, with Gino hoping to make a big profit on him, but if we end up going down because we’ve spent a lot of our budget on this player and didn’t strengthen enough elsewhere, then it will be completely pointless. Even if we make a decent profit we’ll have found a penny and lost a pound.

It’s all very well what Dux said but there is a balance. What’s the point in spending £12m to potentially make £30m only to lose £100m if we get relegated?

Again, too early to know if this is how it will pan out, but assuming our max budget is £25/£30m this would be half of it which doesn’t leave much to actually strengthen the rest of the team.

If we spend £15m on this player but end up with Deeney/Gray/Fletcher up front then the owners need shooting.

Seems like a unpopular opinion on here but I am not sure we are that well stocked with holding midfielder's. Chalobah has shown he is better further forward as has Cleverley, Gosling is more of a box to box midfielder. Therefore, I would argue that Hughes is the only one of our midfielders good enough to play holding midfield at Premier League Level.

I agree that we don't have many defensive midfielders - in fact we have one (Hughes).

I think my reservation is that the one defensive midfielder we have is probably the second best player in our squad after Sarr.

The current system we use only relies upon one defensive midfielder and so spending what is probably a large chunk of our budget on a position we have quality in seems a little odd. The videos of him I have seen suggest he could more than do a job as a box to box player as well, so maybe that is the plan.

Especially when you take into consideration that the centre back was playing for the worst team defensively in English football last season.

Yes. Thank god we are targeting Brazilians (5 World cup wins) and not anymore usless Jocks (0 World Cup wins)

Much better. I actually approve of this.
