I will give this 3rd tier clogger the benefit of the doubt until he's had a full preseason and 38 straight starts to prove himself.

Most recent account he's followed on Twitter appears to be... Watford FC official account.

Edit: no idea if that's how Twitter actually works, just appeared at the top of the accounts he follows for me.

Nothing wrong with this deal. Won’t play for us for a couple of seasons, but another sort of signing we should be making. We need to be hoovering up young talent in the lower leagues. Some of them won’t work out, but some inevitably will.

Worrying, I thought we were only meant to be signing players who improve the starting eleven? We can't go into the new season with players from Grimsby and Rochdale, who have definitely been signed to go straight into the team. We've lost the plot, we could be a laughing stock next season. Sad.

When Watford don't scout and buy players from the lower UK leagues: why don't Ponzos sign lower league players?

Especially on this forum where it's always the same few posters who are unhappy with everything.

We've signed two players for the future and taken a punt on a squad player to replace some of the rubbish we have up front for a combined fee of 260k. The season hasn't finished yet and it's like the world's ended going by some posters

Glad to get Pollock on board. Another hopeful first team player after his loan spells to Champo clubs come to an end. So that's Fletcher and Pollock, according to some random news
outlet we have apparently pissed of gravel head Dyche by pinching one of his targets too.

I can't see this as a problem. People have said they would like more of a Brentford style of picking up players. Minus Fletcher which still baffles me we have picked up three promising young players to replace the obvious lack of progress from the U23's. Whether they're ready it doesn't matter atm it's honestly a pittance to have shelled out so far. I personally applaud the new outlook we have taken so far before the window is even open.

This guy is definitely not being signed for the u23s. He'll go out on loan like Wilmot.

We will sign three types of players over this window:

    1. First team squad (if we pay any type of fee above nominal, they're in this category)
    2. Young lower leagues players that have been playing regularly. Will either be bit part players in squad or loaned out for first team football
    3. Cast offs from other academies as filler for the u23

Probably worth thinking about which category someone has been signed for before deciding whether we are a joke or not.

As someone else said, u23s football is pretty pointless, signing someone who has been playing regularly in lower league football and then sitting them in our u23s is about as sure fire way of wasting their career as possible.

Absolutely no issue with snapping up promising youngsters like this guy.

But if people on here are criticised for saying Fletcher looks like a poor addition - then it’s fair those who are saying Fletcher has been signed to replace players we have found hard to shift and are still on the books, are treated with the same level of critique no? There’s assumptions on both parts.

This is why I find it a bit odd that people like to have a go at those being ‘overly critical’ - because quite often it’s being said by people who hold equally questionable views on the same matter.

Fletcher is also one for the future to some extent - though we've found Troy and Gray hard to shift, we know they'll be gone one way or another in a season, beyond which point Fletcher will be able to more than adequately replace their roles at a fraction of the wage, whether that be as 3rd or 4th choice in the PL, or maybe 2nd choice back in the Champ.

It's a cheap punt on a player who could still improve, and worst case can perform a reasonable squad role without crippling the budget.

Again, the story goes that Deeney has a years option - we simply don’t know that he will be gone in a years time. There’s a chance sure - but he’s stuck around this long, so I really won’t be putting my eggs in the ‘he’s clearing off’ basket just yet.

Sure, though as with Nath whenever there's something at all vague or unclear you'll generally prefer to assume the most negative possible scenario to give you another excuse to just moan and lazily slag things off.

Why have some patience, consider the possible scenarios and see how things play out, when you can instead act all righteous and vent your spleen?

Fletcher is expected to play a role this season.

Pollock isn't (and realistically is unlikely to play a part next season either).

There are only scenarios where Fletcher will become a useful player in the future: (1) if he has a remarkable mid-career development; or (2) this season is a failure and we are relegated and lose our more talented players.

Pollock is young and has years to develop before he reaches Fletcher's age.
