On the contrary, if every game were drawn, we'd have gone down with Wycombe and Sheffield Wednesday with Barnsley and Birmingham going up

Another Giaretta interview survives barely after a run in with the Google Translate mangle:

Needs new contract sorted though. If they can do that plus Hughes and Chalobah that will be as valuable as signings for us longer term.

Anyone able to give a breakdown of what he said on Hive today.

    My brother said it was a good interview, followed by;

    -Definitely looking to strengthen
-Knows we have positions that need to improve
    -Our planning has already begun

    What else did he say?

TBH I thought the interview was 'content free', I found UEA's earlier take on here from Giaretta's Italian report actually had more information.

That was pretty much it, along with a comment that they'll only be looking to bring in players that are better than ones they already have in that position, otherwise it won't make sense.

Whilst missing out the vital qualifying phrase "within our budget constraints", which wipes out about 90% of all potential additions at a stroke.

The video up on YouTube yesterday is pretty good.

Glad to see the club making an effort.

Hopefully he'll bring some strategy to the role as well as quality signings. When is Fernandes joining us I wonder?:D

I do think we'd benefit from signing players that can play a certain style or formation that goes beyond an individual head coach.

Someone on here needs to drop Giaretta a message about his youth team plans. It's been long established by the super-experts on here that there's no point in us having a youth team as anyone good will go to one of the big boys.

Giaretta needs to sort himself out and listen to those super-experts before it's too late and they get upset and have to pretend they didn't say those 'facts'.

Kudos to the club for putting Giaretta out there in the last couple of weeks. Though obviously it's easier to do when everything's on a high and I hope they repeat it a couple of times next season regardless of results.

Unless they spend money on it though, and there's nothing in that interview to suggest Pozzo will, it's still pretty pointless. If there's a bit of money spent on it and support given to whoever the head coach is that week to involve youth players in the first team then that's great. Not convinced that's the plan though. Looks like we're more likely to be ringing former world class players and checking if they had any boys and, if so, whether they fancy a move to sunny Herts.

I can see it now. By the time Troy leaves we'll have his son as the first name on the teamsheet. We'll never be Deeney-free.

It would surely come down to goals scored, the teams involved in higher scoring draws would be at the top.

But sadly this probably would mean doom for the Hornets.

Scores the same amount of goals from open play as Liverpool’s keeper so makes absolute sense to keep him at the club as long as he wants.

GIARETTA DS WATFORD - Cristiano Giaretta, sporting director of Watford recently promoted to the Premier League, spoke live on CMIT TV.

BARELLA O LUKAKU AWAY FROM INTER - "Let's say that the potential in the Premier League is there, especially for some clubs. Anything can happen but I find it hard to think that Inter could lose another important player. There is a Scudetto to defend, even if the money makes everyone agree ".

HAUGE OR LEAO FOR WATFORD - “They are not among the most talked about players in Premier and they are not under our magnifying glass. We have to complete the team with a midfielder. We brought important players like Etebo, Danny Rose, Dennis, Fletcher. Exchange between Success and Stryger Larsen with Udinese? No, we have no need in that role. But for Success, when there is an opportunity, we can evaluate options. He has great potential and we are also evaluating the Udinese option. "

RAMSEY OR VECINO HYPOTHESIS - “Ramsey would be a great blow, but he has a very high contract. We like Vecino, but we have never approached him - admits Giaretta, ds Watford - I don't think we will go to these players. I would like to add an English player or who has played in the Premier League, we would like to add team experience with someone who has already played in this tournament ”.

XHAKA ROMA AND JAMES RODRIGUEZ - “Xhaka is the right player for Mourinho, if I could I would take him. Roma would be fine, I would have no doubts. James Rodriguez? I would also see him well, he is a real player, who knows how to play and who can have his say “.

RENEWAL OF INSIGNE - “I struggle to think of a farewell to Napoli, I think he too can do everything to stay. When there is the will on both sides, I don't see why the marriage cannot continue

Bottom line, we’re signing Lukaku, Ramsey and Barella. Let’s go!

Good to see we’re after another Premier League experienced midfielder. That is vital, as what we have right now is not quite good enough. Hopefully that is in additional to Hughes/Chalobah not as their replacement.

The CB blind spot still exists though, and for me, that is a big concern.

I'm glad Ngakia is going to be part of the squad. Unless Giaretta is saying we don't need another right back because we also have Navarro. In which case I'm popping out for a walk into traffic.

    Dear Mr Giaretta,

Please, please, please can you sign another central defender - One who is ready to start in the ..... I think investing now could be the difference between staying up or not so we need to try and find some cash from somewhere to do this please ...... I think this is more important than another midfielder. thanks very much !!

Squad limit is still 25 isn’t it? 2 players for every position, plus extra goalkeeper, plus extra striker is 24. Why waste the remaining spot on another CB?

Because you can have young players outside the number? Because we will undoubtedly be selling a few players? Because there's question marks if our starting CB's are PL level? Because the backup CB's are utter toilet?
