Yes I did say this. It was a Chelsea fan who spoke to me on knowing I was a hornet. He said about a left back and the young Italian midfielder but they haven't been mentioned. So I'd not read much into it. Would be nice though, have noticed that Las Palmas showed interest a few weeks back but we're priced out. Maybe that's why they're interested in Kaba.
Top tier journalist over here in Denmark has confirmed that Kaba is off to Las Palmas https://twitter.com/F_Abolhosseini/status/1691806152227504417?t=fRPlbCIg16DPYgIOqfUtkA&s=19
Darren Witcoop @DarrenOWitcoop · 2m Sory Kaba now expected to seal a £1.3million move to Spanish side Las Palmas tomorrow. Blow for Birmingham who also agreed a fee and Watford were also in running for the FC Midtjylland striker. Kaba due to fly to Spain on Friday for medical after agreeing terms. #bcfc #watfordfc Given we agreed terms but never a fee we must have absolutely no money to spend at all on this new number 9, or as we say every time we miss out, we had other targets..
I think we've been led a merry dance by the hierarchy. I heard quotes from Manga saying along the lines of not signing £20m players, but £3-4m. But that's not even true. If the window closes and we have signed nobody else, or those that we do get are just loans or free transfers, serious questions have to be asked as to why only negligible investment has gone into the squad build, when it's clear how much revenue has been brought in with transfer fees and salary savings. We have debt, but there has to be some kind of balance between investment and debt management. Gino is really screwing us, if this remains the case, whilst Udinese's squad grows ever larger.
Strange to agree terms with someone who had their eyes set on Spain . Afterall the club said they only wanted players who really was keen to join. Maybe the player didn’t fancy it in reality regardless of if a fee was agreed .
I'm sure I read/heard somewhere that at the Forum last week one of the management team looked a certain fan in the eyes and said that Kaba wanted to join us? Almost as if this fan perhaps isn't being told the truth yet insist on communicating as if its gospel?
Not sure. Duxbury says a lot which then doesn’t happen ! I mean you really think Ismael will get time for example..
I think it was Giaretta that spoke to this fan - but yep absolutely agree about Duxburry, would take anything he says with a pinch of salt, its all soundbites with no real substance. I'll have to listen to one of the DNSYE spaces as it was on there after the Plymouth game.
Yes, I’ve heard from people that were there that he did think that. So, Kaba was definitely a player we wanted. Whether he was the top target Ismaël referred to I don’t know, as it’s not clear if we’re after one or two strikers. If it’s only one, then Kaba was obviously our top target. So it seems clear we are now struggling, just as many predicted we would on a zero budget. We need a bigger squad and some real quality upfront to even have any hope of a playoff challenge. IMO.
No such thing as a done deal. Players change their minds / new offers come in for the player all the time until he signs on the dotted line. if your disappointed, fine, others at the club will be also, but it's not some conspiracy to pull the wool over fans eyes.
No point in asking Giaretta about recruitment. Soft porn is his area of expertise and responsibility.
Indeed. He’s picked a La Liga team over two middling and historically bonkers Championship ones. Not exactly a tough choice. Thats before we even get to lifestyle.
I don't think there is any conspiracy. But it is a little bit concerning that senior people at the club can be so bad at judging the situation that they have got to the point of being loose lipped about almost confirming a transfer to fans days before the player moves elsewhere. I don't blame Kaba for choosing to move to Spain - reports of that being his preference have been doing the rounds for weeks - but if he was our first choice we now have to move quickly to progress a deal on another target.
Trouble is, the list we've created for ourselves is extremely small. Got to have the attributes Ismael is asking for (although that didn't stop them from signing Healey), got to be a free transfer (apparently as they couldn't agree on the fee even though he's going for just £1.3m)....and the longer we leave it the more desperate we will look to the selling clubs, so the prices naturally go up. No, I think we've shot our bolt now, and the only player we're likely to get is a loan from Udinese. The only one I can think we'd get is Success, which is something I've been expected for a while now. Might be completely wrong of course, but that's my reading of the situation and how things will pan out.
Yes - often gets last minute change of minds but guess clubs can get complacent too. The worry is have we not been looking elsewhere thinking we had Kaba.
Surely - with massive emphasis on surely - our esteemed owner would know that Success is the antithesis of a player that would flourish in a hard working Ismael team, and that the fallout from all but the most devoted boot licking fans would be off the chart in terms of anger/disappointment/ridicule?? Actually, scratch that. Since when has Pozzo ever given the tiniest **** about what any Watford fan thinks? Welcome back, Isaac Success!!
