What a ****. Quite frankly if that's how you want to win votes then you can **** off. Moreover, if people vote for him because of saying stuff like that then they can **** off as well.
But it doesn't even make electoral sense, does it? There are plenty of poorer areas that voted Tory in 2019, is he suggesting that they be on the hit list too? I also don't see how making already Tory-voting areas even wealthier helps with the electoral mathematics.
We’ve seen that the Tories are even more likely to lose affluent areas to the Lib Dems than Red Wall areas back to Labour. But even so, it doesn’t have to make complete sense. An overriding feature of this administration has been its willingness to say one thing to one group and another to another. The key thing is that ‘Levelling Up’ has not been administered fairly between Tory and Labour seats and that there is also clearly resentment between different Tory areas. Sunak is proud of doing his little bit to stop the levelling altogether and let’s face it, it’s not a natural Tory type of policy.
That's the point - Sunak isn't campaigning to any representative electorate. He's going after the votes of under 120K (that's the most reliable figure available - the Tories are keen to say 180k) mostly white, mostly male, mostly elderly, mostly southern, very prosperous extreme right-wingers. It'll be interesting frightening to see what the Irony Lady does to counter this 'leak' to the faithful.
Would you vote for a party led by her? If so, what are the things she's said that appeal to you? I get that a lot of the country didn't want to vote for Corbyn last time around but although he's dull as dishwater, surely Starmer doesn't hold the Red Peril fear factor in the same way?
No, I won't be voting for Truss or Sunak. But I wouldn't vote Labour either for purely selfish income protection reasons (one previously stated Labour policy in particular would hit me very hard, plus most of my income is unearned - so unless our accountant can come up with a good wheeze, I'd expect to get well and truly screwed). So it'll be Lord Buckethead for me
Despite the current Truss and Sunak shenanigans, the good news is that as a nation we remain in safe hands with our PM still firmly in place to steer us through the choppy financial waters and represent the global power that is the glorious UK in the current Russian and Chinese stand-offs... https://www.thenational.scot/news/2...irst-dance-sweet-caroline-cringe-worthy-clip/ 2,3,4..."Sweeeeeet Caroline, dumb, dumb, dumb..."
The woke! The woke! How big a *****er do you need to be to fall for this anti-wokery? A most serious cost of living crisis and this is the battleground day after day. Will no one think of the women!
A very good friend of mine, sadly no longer with us, wrote this back in 2015, when grinding poverty affected fewer people than it does now. https://simonnricketts.tumblr.com/post/118320564097/voting/amp
I never thought I would akchewally see a political race to the bottom: https://twitter.com/IanDunt/status/1555800301155885059
They can’t/won’t do anything to help anyone to ensure votes, so all they can do is divide by encouraging hate. Anyone will do. Transgender people, refugees, human rights lawyers, cyclists, anyone offering diversity and inclusion training, water companies etc etc.
Worst photo opportunity ever? I’m not going to insert the picture, it’s too bizarre and tragic for that, but lots of talk today about the picture taken some weeks back at the bedside of Archie Battersbee with local MP Anna Firth. Ms Firth for some reason seems to conclude it is appropriate to pose beside the child that doctors have already concluded is dead with a flag and a picture of the Queen. This is the original article. https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/20183785.archie-battersbee-visited-hospital-southend-mp-anna-firth/
The comments on their MP's behaviour from the 'salt of the earth stock' who make up that paper's readership make very interesting reading.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the ERG’s plan was to heavily back someone before quickly conspiring against them a la May, and then bring Boris back when everyone’s forgotten about Covid and parties as they’re struggling to feed their families. “Things we’re better when I was in charge.” The electoral system is completely f****d. You could technically have Truss winning an election, then being forced out and Boris taking over as PM for 4 years unelected, claiming that no one cares about his law breaking anymore.
It’s why the Standards Committee is very important. He has shown himself unable to meet the standards required of an MP and his constituents should have the chance to recall him.
True, but they can just move him into a much safer seat. He also doesn’t even need to be an MP to be Prime Minister.
I see they’ve had another go at it today - Carrie’s bit on the side and Mad Nad both tweeting about it being a kangaroo court, abuse of process etc.
Thankfully someone's standing up for the little people in a clearly unfair system: https://twitter.com/ZacGoldsmith/status/1556166447537311745
Fair's fair... if anyone is well set to identify an obscene abuse of process, it's a man ejected from office by his constituency electorate who then simply asks Big Dog for a Lordship and an instant return to ministerial office and sees his wish granted.
