Just putting a flag down... TBH, I've always liked The Baggies, and their fans. One doesn't get to say that about both elements of many clubs. Their fans I've met over the years have always had an inclination to expect doom and gloom, and they've often been proved right. But they take self-deprecation to a different, and humorous, higher level. 'Boing Boing' might get mocked by some, but to this day it remains the most impressive thing I've ever seen at the Vic by away fans. Just hope it's a cracking game of football.
Bollox, sorry, forgot this was my match to do. Erm, West Brom, decent looking side but Bruce is past it. Edwards and Watford are ace. 3-0 to the horns Bit of history. My mate shat himself as he got back on the coach home after the 4-4 draw a few years back. I laughed all the way home.
We used to drive past The Hawthorns on the way to senior nationals in Dudley. My brother has a Wolves supporting friend who calls WBA "them baggy *******"". RIP Laurie Cunningham and Cyrille Regis.
Foxes 0-4 Watford Dennis x 2 Sarr x 2 Few renditions of did Deeney make you cry to remind them of that play-off semi final game! Tough evening for the bedwetters etc. You 'Orns!
I used to hate it when we played WBA, to me they were our bogey side back in the day. Under Boothroyd during the 08/09 season - we we're riding high in the division and they came to Vic and steamrolled us 3-0. Only win over them I remember seeing live was a 1-0 win the FA Cup. However (as my signature states) we did have one of the best games I've ever seen against them. A thrilling 3-3 draw in a mid winter clash at the Vic. This was a game during our baron run of form (I think we got battered by Fulham on boxing day the next game). Looking at Monday's game, it's another late night romp up in the black country, and a stadium full of atmosphere and "boing". Coming off the back of a decent performance and win over Sheff Utd we should be full of confidence going into this one. However, WBA are one of the stronger sides in this division and after a nightmare season last time out, their fans' would expect them to be challenging for a top six place come April. I think a draw would be a decent result to follow up the opening day win, I don't think we will lose heavily if we do lose, but I think team mentality will be drilled by Edwards to make sure we don't crumble away from home from the off. WBA 1 Watford 1
I don't think I can remember opposition fans being this complementary to us in a pre match chat ever.
The ‘Three Degrees’ team of the late 70s was a great one. I was at Uni in Brum at the time and a visit to the Hawthorns to watch them was a rare treat.
Given his links with Villa and especially Wolves, RE will probably be looking forward to a successful visit to the Hawthorns........
Hopefully another win, they didn't look anything special in their first match and as long as we have Dennis and Sarr I back us to win in any match.
Never heard of them. Did they used to be non league? Obviously I've only followed Watford since we got into the Premiership, but I'd have thought if this lot were any good I'd have heard of them by now. 5-0 to the Hornets.
Many people of Watford do not realise the connection they have with the people of West Bromwich and vice versa. I am of course referring to the mighty A41 which runs through both towns to the benefit of all. Indeed it runs right alongside the Hawthorns. Alas! This great road is no longer a continuous route, with a gaping chasm now between Bicester and Solihull where we must make do with the charmless M40. Despite this, we have a great kinship with the people of West Bromwich and in difficult times this should be treasured. As for the game, we will thrash the ****s. Prediction West Bromwich 1-41 Watford All 42 goals scored by Samir who’s commitment will not be questioned following this.
I didn’t know this about the A41 - what a tragedy. Presumably in pre-motorway days it was continuous to Birkenhead. Imagine the romance of an away trip to Tranmere following it all the way, pausing only at the various hostelries that no doubt peppered the route (designated driver excepted).
Bachmann Kabasele Sierralta Cathcart Kamara Cleverley Kayembe Sema JP Sarr Dennis Hamer, Ngakia, Gaspar, WTE, Gosling, TDB, Asprilla, Manaj. WBA 1 - 2 Watford 'Orns!
Remember a way back being picked up late, having a few tins in the car, panicking whether we would get to the game on time, needed the loo for the entire journey but couldn’t stop due to time, turning up with a bladder about to burst, running to the ground after parking and getting drenched…and we found the game had been called off. Hated them ever since
For reasons which need not concern us now, on 4 October 1978 I drove from St Albans to Manchester and back, entirely on the A6 (to see the famous victory at OT).
