He spent half of it injured, ****ing around with Chile and getting Covid. Should have had more of a look in than he has but there’s plenty of other reasons why he’s not been in contention. Car crash of a season for him and the club.
He's been available as far as we know for a couple of months now and COVID seemingly doesn't actually keep anyone out for long. The bigger issue is that for some utterly bizarre reason, both Cathcart and now Samir too are completely undroppable, despite being absolutely terrible. Some players at this club know they're untouchable.
Happy birthday! Here's to wasting a season of your career and development at this awful club despite being the only centre back at the club young enough to improve, and being completely starved of any game time for no explainable reason even though you were our best centre back in the Championship. You 'oooooorns!
He got dragged out of position towards the ball too often leaving a huge gap between himself and the other centre back. When Roy came in with his ‘training without the ball’ methods I imagine Sierralta just stood there confused
Yeah, definitely fair to judge him on his *checks notes* five, spread out league starts, coming into our awful, awful side. How is/was he supposed to find any sort of form and/or improve under those circumstances? He has effectively been given next to zero chance to prove himself at this level whatsoever, which after last seasons performances is a disgrace. Meanwhile the other calamity centre backs have been entirely woeful all season, failing to do the basics and making mistake after mistake, have no doubt been picked and made undroppable for their "experience". Experience at being ****king awful, much like Cleverley in midfield. It's ridiculous. There is no fair or logical explanation for the way Sierralta has been treated. He was excellent in the Championship and at worst looked no worse than the other clowns we have at the back in the very limited appearances he has made. This is how we treat young players though. Ageing dross like Cathcart are given preferential treatment because of their standing and tenure at the club, at the expense of the development of players like Sierralta. Of course there's no certainty, but had we done the right thing and played Sierralta far more regularly this season - as he deserved after his performances in the Championship - then best case scenario we'd be in a better league position (unlikely, granted) or he would have at least developed to some extent as a footballer having been exposed to Premier League football to the benefit of the club, whether that be because of how he can help us on the pitch going forward or his reputation/transfer value improving. Worst case scenario... we'd still be dog **** and still be going down. There would have been zero downside. His situation is just another perfect example of what an utter shambles this club is.
Scored a great goal for Wolves and I get the impression he ****ed the club around quite a lot with Chile, including picking up quite a big injury after deciding to travel. And then got Covid and stuff, which pissed a lot of the season up the wall. No idea why Woy hasn't given him a look in though. EDIT: Just realised this almost word for word what I posted at the top of the page. I'm a stuck record me...
If that's the reason, and there's no real proof that it is, then it's only further evidence of how idiotic and short sighted the club is. Deal with it and move on.
When Kabasele was picked against Norwich, I would not have begrudged Sierralta demanding to leave. Sierralta, who dominated Norwich in both ties last season. Kaba has never been a good defender, yet somehow a 2 year layoff gives him an immediate pass into the first team? I'm confused.
Our defence was decent in the championship and we didn’t do anything to improve it going into the PL. With this in mind, they should then keep a consistent back line which had a great team chemistry. WTE didn’t look half as bad when paired with Sierralta. Instead we’ve had numerous CB pairings all year and you know it’s desperate when Kabasele all of a sudden becomes the answer. This goes for the whole team this year, there is no team chemistry anywhere. We should have kept the core of the championship squad and added a few quality improvements. With that attitude we would have stayed up instead of 17 new players coming in
I went to Spurs away in August and we looked so much better with him at the back than the previous disaster fest at Brighton.
Yep, the myth of "he was crap when he played" is just that, a myth. Besides his own goal against Wolves and a poor performance against Leicester in the cup (after coming back from injury and into a weakened side) he looked fine. Certainly no worse than any of our other CB's and, again, may well have improved drastically with game time and exposure to Premier League football.
Good in the Championship as he's a heading machine but he's terrible on the ball. If we get someone like Manning then I can't see him playing much.
And yet Troost-Ekong, it's who is poorer still on the ball and a worse defender, still managed to make three times more appearances than him. Work that one out. I think "terrible" is overstating it, but with the right coaching (lol at that at this club) and game time to develop, it's an area he could improve in anyway. Wasn't an issue whatsoever in the Championship, seems to be another thing that's only popped up from him extremely limited appearances from this season along with the myth that he was "awful" or "out of his depth" in all of those appearances.
Oh no he was terrible on the ball in the Championship, which is why the ball was given to Troost when we played out from the back. Imagine being worse on the ball than Troost.
I don't care what anyone says, he's not worse than Troost on the ball. Whether the instruction was for Sierralta to play the simple ball more often than not, either way he never cost us or nearly cost us multiple times with his passing like Troost has over and over again. Did Sierralta ever make a single mistake leading to a goal because of his passing in the Championship? I can't think of any. Troost's passing has repeatedly lead to opposition chances and even goals. The same can't be said for Sierralta. We're never going to have a fantastic ball playing centre back, especially in the Championship. Nothing wrong with simply instructing Sierralta to play the simple ball out to the full back, his centre back partner or whatever midfielder is coming deep to receive it. It doesn't have to be a major issue. It becomes an issue when you're Troost and don't seem to realise or accept that you're utterly appalling with the ball and repeatedly **** the team over because of it trying to play risky balls that you're not capable of.
Is this bloke actually still alive? Easily our best centre back last season and it makes no sense why he has not featured all season. Hopefully one that will be here next season
It must be a conspiracy, our best centre half - yet Samir, Cathcart and Kabasele are chosen over him. looks like Bachmann's story repeated again.
One of vanishingly few characters that would seem to have stood a chance of being likeable, and maintaining at least some connection with both team and fans, and the energy and momentum of last season's promotion run, to boot.
Apparently Sierralta is going to Brighton. Not sure how true it is, but being talked about by a few on Twitter.
Scenes when he signs for Brighton, becomes their best defender, and moves to Man Utd for 70 million in 2024. Meanwhile, we’re trotting our Cathcart and Kabasele in L1.
The source seems to be some Chilean sports channel merely claiming Brighton are interested; which has then been retweeted by some random Chilean football fans. Could easily be nonsense, or Sierralta's agent just trying to drum up interest. https://twitter.com/Solenya137c/status/1541230214298099713
