Well that's a change of approach. Will this be another Billy McKinley hustle until someone they really want becomes available though

Sorry what do you mean? Am I being thick or is there a typo or something here that is obscuring the meaning?

He's in for a huge shock coming to us then isn't he?!

He'll look like Chet Baker, post drug frenzy after three months, assuming he lasts that long.

From what I've read on here and elsewhere, I have high hopes for Rob Edwards. He's clearly got some nous in respect to tactical flexibility and is credited with good man management skills. Also he has something to prove at a higher level of football. Could be a good move. Fingers crossed it is.

Or he was just fibbing until things were more certain.

Rob Edwards will do as next Watford manager. At least he knows 'the lower leagues'.

As with any manager we were going to get, some of the proof in the pudding will be if the players take any notice of what he wants them to do.

Hopefully we give him more than a dozen games to implement his style.

Forest Green and their coaches are away on holiday together. So it got a bit awkward this morning when the story started to break

Except it often isn't the "proper" way it's done and the owner might have been fibbing.

Plus if he really had no idea it probably says more about the cluelessness of their owner.

Just over quarter of a season, that would be nice, but doubtful with our mob.

I expect he will have pre-season to turn the crap we have and the crap we sign into players they will never be. After that, at best, he gets the first 6 games before he’s shown the door if we’re not top of the league.

It is in the proper way it’s done. It’s just becoming increasingly rare it’s the ‘actual’ way it’s done.

Sounds like he's made of the right sort of stuff. Now to cut out the egos and dead wood to give him a decent squad on the cheap and a fighting chance !

Looks like Pozzos may have identified their next sacrificial lamb.

New head coach, same old terrible recruitment, interference with training and toxic player power. He’ll be gone by October and Pozzbury will be mystified as to why things haven’t worked out. ‘Better hire an experienced foreign manager next!’

I believe it will be a terrific appointment IF he is joining a club genuinely keen to learn from past mistakes, and given the tools, the backing and the environment to succeed.

If he isn't, then sadly most likely it will just be another step on our descent into total farce.

Yup. And that the remaining mercenaries respond to him rather than playing possum like they always do when they don't like/respect a head coach.

Clever by the club releasing it to the press yesterday, picking up speed today. Massive PR to distract us from the shambles of the game tonight. They knew protests/booing etc were happening tonight, but now instead of facing hostile fans which they deserve, I expect our fans will put the banners down saying “Gino, Duxbury Out,” and pull out the banner of Gino’s face.

I know nothing about this bloke nor will I pretend to, like most ‘supporters’ will.

Can someone with some actual knowledge advise that he is not the cheapo option with marginally more tactical and technical skill as a coach than the leisure centre manager we had last season?

Based on what?! It still seems to be pretty common when sounding out the possible interest and terms of managers who are still contracted to another club.

For instance, looking at recent managerial appointments in the top leagues where they've left one for another, Man Utd held discussions with Ten Hag's agents before agreeing to anything with Ajax, and Swansea were strongly rumoured to have been in discussions with Russell Martin at least a day or two before an "official approach" to talk to him was made to MK Dons:

In many ways operating in such a way as to keep it as behind the scenes as possible makes sense and is more fair to the club of the manager which the manager is currently at, as it avoids destabilising and distracting their current club and its players so much in case the provisional talks come to nothing and the deal falls through, which can often happen.

I knew nothing about him until a couple of days ago but after doing some reading he sounds like a breath of fresh air. It's a shame he'll have to deal with a squad less talented than his Forest Green one and an owner who watches him like a hawk.

Former England youth and Wolves u23 coach/manager and has a high coaching pedigree. Won the league (just) in his first job at FGR, playing an attractive high possession, high pressing style of play and a 3-4-1-2 formation. Speaks well too and everyone there is very big on the feel-good culture and environment he has set up.

That said, it is a big step up and FGR tailed off quite a bit at the end of the season - those would be my two reservations. We have to give him time. When clubs have made these sorts of appointments - Jones and Rowett at Stoke comes to mind but I suppose that Ismael last season too - things can take time but as we have seen with managers generally cream rises and hopefully it is with us.

If we haven't approached Forest Green despite being in advanced talks with Edwards then that's a really sh!tty thing to do. But I'm not surprised one bit considering who runs our club. Although if that's the case then Edwards is also going behind his club's back, so he'll fit right in.

Cheers. So basically he should enjoy his lucrative 6 month bossing around by the three stooges that think they know it all at the club, before getting back to management at his next club after his sacking.
