The timing was right for him to leave and I hope he has a few more successful years before hanging his boots up. He is an absolute legend for Watford and for me personally as I wasn’t alive during the Elton/Taylor 80s era he is the greatest Watford player of all time.
    Forever Watford’s number 9.

An absolute legend. Genuinely am a bit emotional tonight, end of an era somewhat. Yes, he was annoying sometimes but he was ours.

Shouldn't forget just how good he was in his prime too, three 20+ goals Championship seasons is no joke. An absolute menace to play against, genuinely do think he could of been an asset to England in 2014-2015 but the decline was rather sharp from thereon in. In hindsight, the £30 million from Leicester might have ended up being much better for us than them but take nothing away from how vital Deeney was in the early Pozzo days. Made Vydra & Ighalo better players next to him as well IMO.

Hope he ends on a high at Brum rather than the version we saw of him last year.

Thanks to Troy for the numerous memories, I hope he's part of the club in the future in some capacity and I hope we get to give him a proper send-off at some point.

More likely seeing how well our front three played against Villa, plus knowing he would also be competing with Pedro and King.

He has simply been an amazing captain for us. The change from when he finished his time at her majesty’s pleasure through the next four seasons was amazing. It says so much about him, his work ethic and his talent. That goal versus Leicester was the best Watford moment I have witnessed live but I will remember how brilliant he was with my sons when they were mascots - a very impressive man. He had a genuine aura about him - he was both liked and respected. Good luck to him at Birmingham.

I hope you are right wfcSinatra, and I think he might well have an extra bounce in his form as he will be playing for the team he has supported since he was kid, as long as he does not score against us if we ever play Brum whilst he is still there :)

    Classic Talksport/media.

Mention Troy leaving and just say how many managers he played under.

No note of his achievements or goal record!

Not a bad return for someone who cost next I think it was 750k (!?) thanks to Elton and he certainly re-paid the faith shown to him after the prison term by the club.

You don't score 140 for us without being good at your job and Troy delivered so many times.

Sad that Troy is leaving the club.

The story of his time at the club is a great one. A partnership that has worked so well. He gave his all and was a great ambassador for the club. He pushed those around him on and off the pitch in the way Watford expects.

We should be thankful for having him at our club for so long. That just does not happen these days. I don’t imagine we will see a player stay with us with so much success again.

Massive thanks to Troy for all these years.

    All the best Captain.

At his peak he was absolutely superb in the champo and previously in the prem he won games for us. His 2 winners under Javi significantly contributed to us avoiding relegation and were 2 of the most important goals he scored for the club. There were several games including when we beat the Arse under the snake where he was a game changer. He was also one of Dyche's heroes who kept the club alive when we had one of the worst owners of any English club in my lifetime, scoring 11 goals in that season. As well as scoring for fun for 3 of his 11 seasons, he also had a great touch and his link up play was excellent.

But what Gino and Scot allowed him to become within the club was completely insane and totally out of kilter with his waning ability and 'leadership' skills. Troy talks a very very good game and created a narrative about himself within the club that did not correspond with reality but which many supporters were completely seduced by to the detriment of the club.

In the video Troy alluded to events in his book that have caused him to be the way he is. I'm sure that's true. Whilst he didn't exactly grow up in Mogadishu and many Watford players have come from way way tougher and more deprived backgrounds without free healthcare, free education and a welfare state, it's fair to say Troy had a much tougher upbringing than the vast majority of Watford fans and deserves our respect and understanding in that respect.

However, we are football club not a charity and a segment of the fanbase, myself included, felt that Troy had way too much power at the club. It was madness to allow a player to be above the manager in the hierarchy as was the refusal of Scot and Gino to respond appropriately when his impact on the pitch nosedived. The leadership structure at the club was a sick joke and an accident waiting to happen.

I really appreciated what Troy said about Luther in the video. Luther Blissett is our top scorer and top appearance maker. He was the first Watford player to play for England, he is 'Watford's favourite son' and was the top scorer in the top flight in 1982/3. He is the real Mr Watford. If you don't think Luther Blissett is our greatest ever player then quite simply you are not Watford. It's a fact not an opinion.

However, Troy's Watford story is remarkable, bought with the proceeds of an Elton John gig, he paid back his fee many times over (if not his wages in recent years).

Troy is a remarkably talented person both as a footballer and as a media personality and he has left the club in an infinitely stronger position than when he joined. But.....it could have been so different if he hadnt got injured last season and we really really dodged a bullet there.

Judging by Troy's video he is really struggling with his fall from grace and it does appear he may have been managed out of the club to some extent. But at the age of 33 there's no shame in that. Troy is extremely lucky to be one of a small number of players who have good options ahead of them after they retire. Whatever happens at Birmingham he will have had a great career and finish up with wealth beyond his wildest dreams. He's done very well for himself and should be proud of his achievements.

I don't enjoy laying into a Watford player but I felt it was essential that Troy left the club in the summer of 2020 and even more so in 2021. Never again should WFC be allowed to become a citadel for one man's ego. Now that he's gone, I wish him the very best of luck for the future and thank him for what he has done for the club over the years.

Since leaving jail Troy has accumulated an incredible amount of fame, status, notoriety, wealth and memories. But in my opinion what he really needs to find is peace. I hope one day he can find that. He deserves it.

I really hope they let Andre do an equivalent goodbye video.

Seriously though Deeney leaves as a club legend and I am glad there is no further danger of anything compromising that.

Only a few who had such an unhealthy obsession with him that they resorted to making stuff up. “He picks the team, he runs the club, he’s got a clause that means he has to start, he sets the formation” - all utter tosh. There have been some bad eggs at the club in recent years but TD hasn’t been one of them. Unfortunately the bad eggs have been (and one still is) the players that get fanboy treatment.

I’m pleased Deeney is moving on and I’m pleased he’s got a move to ‘his’ team.

He is a club legend and deserves all the plaudits coming his way.

    Well it had to happen.

Now it has I too feel a bit weird.

Kind of sunk in when I told my 15 year old, who's definitely a Hornet but not big into football generally. - he was a bit shocked and almost upset. Thinking about it though all his Watford memories have Troy in them.

The playoff semi, and Wembley v Palace, Wembley v Wolves we were there together.

In fact Troy has played for the club the whole time since he first went to the Vic age 5. He's probably the closest equivalent of Luther for those his age.

I know that Troy wasn't always popular with everyone but put a lot of years of effort in and has been the one big constant of the last decade at the club.

Yes it's time for him to move on. He leaves a lot of good memories and I'll focus on that.

I'll miss him. All the best Troy.

    Watford's no. 9.

It looks like there have been some frank conversations behind the scenes between Xisco and Pozzbury. It seems clear Xisco didnt want Deeney in the squad this season most likely for on and off the pitch reasons.

Pozzbury would've had to be demented to back a 33 year old who scored 1 open play goal in the championship over the manager who got us promoted and it seems they have finally come to their senses.

It looks like the plan was to let Troy realise it himself rather than force it on him. There was no way Troy could talk his way into the team ahead of Dennis, King, JP or Cucho. He was our 5th or 6th choice #9.

Adam Levanthal has previously said the club wanted to recruit early to show unwanted players they werent going to get minutes. I guess not many people, Levanthal included, realised that included Troy. Scot said not to fall in love with players. People thought he was just talking about Will Hughes, apparantly not!

I have been saying for a long time that we need to move on from Troy, he just isn't the same player anymore unfortunately, injuries and maybe his age have impacted him negatively. But I am still quite sad that Troy has left today and it would have been nice to give him a proper sending off.

No matter that the last three seasons have not been all that he leaves as a club legend. He turned his life around and has a bright future ahead of him in the media where he is more articulate than most or if he decides do your coaching badges Troy and you never know come back here as a coach. Certainly as a mentor to young players who could learn a lot from him.

Certainly in some sort of ambassadorial capacity when he does hang up the boots. You can tell he will miss the place but the memories for supporters especially the younger ones and he himself will always be there. Thanks for those memories, for wearing the shirt with pride and leading from the front.

This iconic moment will be forever:
