    Definitely articulate.

Used the word 'epicentre' in his farewell video.

Most footballers don't even know where that is (it's in Florida of course).

He really does. He's earned countless millions playing football, and is now going to live the dream of every football fan by playing for the club he's supported all his life. The perfect way to round off a playing career.

Troy's goal scoring record at the club will always be remembered by the fans who watched him play.
As some have said already, his best years are behind him. He still feels he has something to give. Good luck to him at Birmingham.
Many began to dislike him, but we still don't have a goalscorer in the team. Fletcher/King/Dennis together will not score as many goals for Watford.
In the end, he became a disruptive/divisive character around the team. His desire to be heard in the media became very boring.
You need to selfish to be a goalscorer and Deeney was certainly all about 'Me'.
At least there will be another reason to watch EFL on Quest next season. We'll get to see Watford and Deeney in the Championship.
All the best to him and thanks for the goals and memories.

When you become bigger than the club and are unable to meet the requirements of being top billing then it's time to move on. A good outcome for all involved parties.

Good Luck Troy and thanks for the good times.

Can only echo what’s already been said. Have thought it’s been time for Deeney to go for a while but, now that it’s happened, I feel sadder than I expected to - especially after watching his video. Recent poor form shouldn’t detract from what he’s done for the club over the preceding decade. Really hope a send off at the Vic can be accommodated at some point - he deserves it. Thanks Troy and good luck at Birmingham.

Late to the party in celebrating Troy, but wanted to show my respect.

I think we can all safely say that without Troy we wouldn’t be where we are today as a club. He really has made Watford a relevant club outside of our own fans, in today’s football culture. The goal against Leicester is so iconic, it will be shown for decades. His personality has brought the club plenty of attention and made us famous. As someone who lives in the states, no-one knows any club outside of the top 6, the moment I’ve told people I’m a watford fan, their first response is, we love Troy Deeney. 11 years ago when I’m moved to the states, no-one knew watford, now it’s a club that has been heard of because of Deeney.

Selfishly I wanted him to stay this season, I wanted him to be happy playing a bit part role off the bench. I get that he doesn’t want that, and playing for your boyhood club is a dream way to end your career.

We’re going to miss his leadership massively. That’s the part that scares me the most. Who fills his boots. The answer is certainly NOT Ekong, despite the kids on twitter thinking so. However the reality is, we don’t have many leaders that should be starters. Ekong, Chalobah, Cleverley are all not good enough to start. So who should be captain? Bachmann, Kaba, Sierralta, Etebo, Sissoko, Kucka? Anyone one of them is better than Ekong, Chalobah or Cleverley.

The way Troy encouraged his fellow teammates is going to be a huge miss. We will see more and more stories like Kaba’s about Troy.

I think we just have to accept that we will not have another Troy for a very long time.

It’s been a beautiful journey, regardless of recent speculation, or frustrations, at the end of the day, Troy left it all on the pitch. This club is truly in his heart. I for one look forward to the day that he becomes our manager. I have no doubt that we will see Troy at Watford again.

    Troy, thank you for everything.

Indeed. He's finally moved on, 3 years too late. People are talking like he's died.

2pm on a Saturday, knowing that his name won't be on the team sheet, knowing that he won't be standing 12 yards behind play, waving for the ball to he lumped at his head, knowing that he won't be abusing a young winger for going it alone despite being nowhere near the box, knowing I won't have to put up with another post match interview after an ineffective showing where he talks about how big he is, knowing I won't see an obvious chance for him to move into space but reject it in favour of locking horns and losing with a centre back, knowing I won't see him rate another manager as the best he's played under, before visually leading the downing of tools of the whole squad, I'm delighted.

Thanks for the memories Troy but you blew it with 3 years of absolute shittery.

A similar thing happened with Iggy as I recall, most people wanted him out and to cash in on the Chinese ££££, and then he filmed a video when he left and everyone suddenly changed their tune.

He’s a club legend and he deserves our respect, but he hasn’t died, he was always going to leave, and when he left he was always going to make some sort of video exactly as he has.

To disagree with your post someone would have to either have no clue what was going on during Deeney's final years at Watford or have such a huge hole in their soul that they would rather desperately fill it with whatever false prophet in a yellow shirt comes their way than admit the reality of that person's impact on the club.

The job now for Gino and Scot is to make sure a situation like this never happens again at the club. They need to embrace the type of modern leadership structures advocated by people like Dyche and Southgate. The reason I focus on those 2 more than geniuses like Klopp, Tuchal, Simeone and Guardiola is because Dyche and Southgate (by any measure the 2nd most successful England manager of all time) are not geniuses. What they do isn't rocket science. They are pretty regular people who have excelled in their position despite their shortcomings in some areas by using very effective, simple yet sophisticated management, team building and leadership structures that are fit for the 21st century.

Scot and Gino must ensure we have the right leadership structure inside and outside the dressing room to build the mentality we need for survival. That includes having multiple leaders. And if we do go down let's not go down without a fight we can be proud of, unlike 2 years ago.

Even if Southgate and Dyche's careers were to go downhill from now on, it doesnt change the extreme over achievement they have achieved by embracing effective management and leadership structures.

We need to move on from relying in one extremely erratic man's ego to drag us over the line. It was doomed to failure and we had the luck of the devil to end our addiction/dependency on Deeney in the PL not league 1.

We must learn from our mistakes and make sure they never happen again. We won't be this lucky next time, that's for sure!

No problem with you having a different opinion - it is kind of the point of the board. It is just the shock-jock, keyboard warrior tone that grates and the implication that anyone who doesn't see it the same way as you is some kind of naive simpleton

Ok, it is just "Hope they leave the windows open over the international break to finally get the stink of this man out of this club." is quite florid language.

Just say you are glad he is gone if that is how you feel.

I don't disagree with you - it was time for him to go, but, in my opinion, the good parts of TD significantly outweigh the bad, so on balance, for me, yesterday was a sad day.

I think many others on here feel the same.

Bit odd that Moog is getting pelters from a few people for giving his unfiltered view on Deeney’s departure. Yet the 2 posts where a forum member I won’t name has suggested Deeney has mental health problems after watching a 3 minute video have gone without comment….

Two phases of Deeney's career at Watford, in my opinion.

The first was brilliant. It meant he was valued at £25m by potential suiters and was talked about as being on the fringes of an England call-up. He deserved the reputation he was getting - and for this period alone, I wish him the best at Birmingham and hope he continues into a successful career when he stops playing.

The second phase has been poor. It started in June 2016 when he was given his increased salary (a rumoured £70k pw), and when his Club Captaincy was cemented.

It was like a switch was turned off. He came back for pre-season very unfit and overweight and with the wrong attitude that was expressed both on and off the pitch. He has admitted that he let himself down himself, and deserves some credit for that, but he has never recovered from that time being consistently unfit and poor on the pitch, and he reached a real low when (as Captain) he refused to train or play in our greatest hour of need when we were fighting for relegation last year. I know he has given various explanations for some of his shortcomings, but so far, they don't quite excuse him, in my view. Maybe his book will reveal more.

I am only basing the above on what I have seen, what he has said, and what the club has said. I'm not speculating as to how much power he had behind the scenes. But my overall view was that we/he was better off if he was not being at the club.

So the time is not right for him to go. That time was when he was in his prime, five years ago, in my opinion. His reputation would have been entirely intact (in my mind anyway), and we would have £25m and £70k pw to spend on a striker that would have scored more than a handful of goals each season.

I know it is cosy and sentimental to ignore the past 5 years as some who don't like hearing the truth prefer that we only say "nice" things, and it is down to individuals if they prefer to do that. But I'm going to be honest and say that we have paid him something like £17,000,000 over that time and he was our Captaina and our No 9, and he should have been more professional. I also believe that, deep down, he would agree that he let himself down.

However, for the good times he gave us, I sincerely hope he continues to find happiness and a successful career ahead.

I think that the tone of his OP plus a number of others (not just by him) on here, wears incredibly thin. He (and you) are more than entitled to your opinions. Read Nath's post from yesterday - he was, I believe, decidedly in favour of Troy leaving the club (and I was too, for what it's worth) but he at least try to achieve some kind of balance.

Everything being portrayed as 100% black or 100% white with nothing in between gets incredibly tedious.
