I think I may well develop a bit of man love for this bloke, takes no prisoners and can actually play a bit as well.

I thought all the debutants did really well, but this guy was my MoTM.Broke up play, set up counter attacks. When he tired and substituted, Villa got back into the game. Will be difficult for Hughes to get back in to the starting 11, but at least with nine subs will get a few cameos this season.

I'm carrying on the man love. When's the last time we saw a midfielder go into a challenge like he did on McGinn? I'll take that over some of the powder puff efforts we've endured over the seasons prior. My Father in law was yet again correct t when he said we'd got a very handy player there.
His beloved Roma are looking to move on Amadou Diawara and his exact words were if Watford have the money get him. By all accounts Jose may even offer him on loan with a view.

He was excellent - also my MOTM. Midfield steel but with ability and obviously loads of experience. Exactly the player we lacked in our relegation season. He will miss some games due to suspensions but if he stays fit he will be a huge asset.

Could be a masterstroke, he’s old as hell, so we might only get one season out of him, but if we flog the ginger misery for a fee greater than £2m, we not only make a profit compared to keeping Hughes for his final year, but probably end up with a better player too.

Haven't we been linked with Diawara in the past? Name rings a bell.

Yes when he was at Napoli I believe. Won't come cheap though. Jose needs to create money for transfers and for some reason he can go. He reckons from 10-14m would get him. Only just turned 23 too.

Was listening to 5live and the first time they went to the game the reporter did the little bit about us being on top and a couple of chances, mentioned the crowd and then chucked in “only Kucka didn’t take the knee before kick off”

Did anyone notice that? Anyone know or suggest why? Just hoping that he’s explained his reasons to the squad (sure he would have) and there’s no bad feelings from it. I can imagine it’ll get some coverage at our first live TV game.

Either his 34 year old knees won’t take it or in the words of Alan Partridge he’s a daft racist.

Have to say I didn't notice that, I noticed Masina get up early and try to stretch out his other leg, which I found a bit odd and a little concerning, did he have a knock or something?

Quite a few players don't. Toney didn't at start of Brentford game and it wasn't mentioned in commentary. Zaha doesn't. It's a personal preference surely.

Unfortunately, Masina was still stretching it in injury time.

I wonder if it had any impact on his 'challenge' for the penalty at the death?

Him and Dennis I think. I wonder if it was just based on unfamiliarity (given that taking the knee wasn’t done in Italy and given that Kucka only joined the squad last week). I also thought the knee-taking seemed much shorter and a bit more rote yesterday.

Dennis didn't against Palace either. Some players don't want to do it anymore which is totally up to them.

Obviously what a player does or doesn't do is totally up to them, but it might have some effects on team spirit etc. I suspect that most players would be more understanding of a Black player not participating for a range of reasons (e.g. they think it is a token gesture or that it distracts from other means of combatting racism) than a white player not participating with the rest of the team. A number of prominent Black players - Zaha most immediately comes to mind - have not participated for a while and have explained why.

If black players think it is little more than a token gesture, I am sure is quite possible for white players to have the same view.

They took the knee as Xisco was being introduced to the crowd, it did seem a bit rushed lol

Kucka might have explained why he chose not to do it. Or he had absolutely no idea it was happening and I'm sure it'll be explained to him before Brighton.

Slovakia didn't kneel for any of their Euro 2020 matches either - apparently the few times they did, against Ireland and Scotland, it caused a bit of a storm back home.

At his age, possibly Kucka also.

I always wonder if one day Foster is going to be doing the splits, collapse and need to be hoisted to his feet like a Giraffe.

I understand where you're coming from, however it's worth remembering that there's sadly been racism to people from non-black communities as well who will have their own feelings and thoughts on how best to combat racism and who could have similar feelings as Zaha or Toney do. The Euros highlighted one such matter in Eastern Europe as an example.
