I genuinely think he won't be in the final squad. There's no way we're getting rid of all our deadwood because they're utter *****, too expensive for other clubs to take and there's only so many Udinese can take off our hands. I reckon the club will decide it's easier to either loan out or cash in on Cucho and settle on the dross we have here for one more year.
Thank god your a glass half full person, otherwise every ball of string would look like a death sentence. Why would he start a pre season match only to be sold in this window? Maybe if he has a good season this year (even in the context of a relegation) he might be worth more in the summer 22 window, and we can all complain about selling the family silver. But at the moment i think your observation is premature
Cough cough Suarez and Estupinan! Nah, but in all seriousness, he's been plastered all over the social media, he by all accounts has been bright in pre-season, I'd be shocked if he's sold, I think if we absolutely have to get rid of someone if the deadwood can't be shifted, it'll be someone like Zinckernagel
I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I think our season is inexorably linked to how much time Cucho gets on the pitch.
Its a fair point, but circumstances make it a comparison between apples and pears. I cant remember, but did either play in preseason matches three weeks before the start of the season? I think their attitude to staying may have been influenced by our relegation and the prospect of playing in in the championship. For all, its faults being in the Premier League does give us some international kudos in the professional football world. I am sure if we had failed to go up. Sarr, Pedro and Cucho would not be featuring in our preseason. But fair play to Sarr for putting in the miles in the championship. It benefited us and him, and hopefully it will be an example other young players will follow.
Suarez played against Scunthorpe, Estupinan against Tottenham after Masina's serious injury. Didn't see Suarez's game, but to Estupinan's credit, he did quite well against Spurs. Relegation certainly wouldn't have helped things, but in fairness, they both might have left anyway, Estupinan was one of the best LBs in Spain the season before, and Suarez has family links to Granada (who were also in Europe last season). In comparison, the hype has died down a little with Cucho, but in addition he seems a lot more attached to the club, having spent time here recovering from injuries in the past
As has been mentioned, Suarez and Estupinan. Pretty much the same scenario in that we couldn't shift Deeney and Gray, got decent bids for Suarez and Estupinan so they left. It helps that Cucho looks like he actually wants to be here though.
Might help we are at least in the Premier league so we have that carrot to give the guy and will top Spanish clubs be in for him like with Estupinan whilst Suarez never seemed destined to ever play for us.
Looked bright and genuinely quite exciting from what I’ve seen of yesterday. Impressive to connect with the attempted overhead from a delivery at that angle, even if it didn’t come off. Likely gone by August. In all seriousness, seemed to be a genuine tactic to get Deeney to drop off the defenders and play balls in behind the line for Sarr/Cucho.
Pervis was in the team of the Copa America. Another impressive set of performances. Had a little blip in La Liga. He will be back. Need to keep Cucho offers something that several of the other forwards do not. Like the ability to control the ball and get on the scoresheet.
Not trying to make anyone overly optimistic, but I just watched a highlights video of 2017/18 for this guy, and I watched him bury multiple free kicks in top corner. Can he do it for us?
I don't think its the same scenario at all. We had a huge cash deficit we had to bridge last summer. We aren't in the same boat this summer. No way at all Cucho gets sold this summer IMO.
Agreed. And Cucho wrote a post saying how great it was to finally play at Vicarage Road in front of the supporters. Seems pretty obvious he's expecting to be here this season. And his stock is only high enough that he'd get a move to a middling La Liga team at best anyway. That's more attractive than playing in the Championship but not much difference to playing in the Premier League I'd say.
He looks like a superstar and has all the attributes to be one. We need someone to take the pressure off Sarr.
We should offer him a new contract right now, as I think he might only have a year left of his existing contract with us?
He signed an extended 'long-term' contract before he went to Mallorca in 2019, so there's no reason to expect that is the case. The narrative around him would also be very different were that so, so for the time being it's very unlikely to be something we need to worry about.
Exactly. Plus, we’ll suck all of the talent out of him in no time. He’ll be sitting on the bench of a Bulgarian club within 24 months.
We’ll flog him for good money if we go down if he does well as hoped or will end up in Spain anyway if he is another hyped up youngster who doesn’t make it or meet expectations. Not seen him play for us yet as missed the West Brom game. Sounds like I should be excited - hopefully won’t be disappointed .
I think he can do wonders if he gets enough of the ball. Enormous expectation in Colombia as well. Plenty more eyes will be watching our matches from there including Reinaldo Rueda. Please play Cucho in a free role with Sarr and Dennis/King and Pedro. No room for Deeney please.
Hopefully our medical team will get them fit sooner rather than later .. No pressure on the lad then being compared to one of the greatest PL legends !
