[SIGNED perm] Danny Rose

Is Rose more an attacking full back? Kiko was excellent last season, but possibly because we were the team with the ball attacking. Whereas Masina wasn’t quite as natural at that side. Maybe if Rose is an attacking full back, he could be a good alternative?

 

Last season we needed to attack and break teams down as we were better than them.
This season we will need to defend 90% of the time so "solid defender" is more important than the ability to attack.

 

My problem with Masina is mainly that I don’t really know what he’s good at. For his size, he should be more physical - but he’s not. For his height, he should be a threat in the air - but he’s not. His delivery is good so he should be able to put great crosses into the box - but he doesn’t.

I don’t think he’s a bad player - I just think he’s very average. If we are saying we need a ‘solid’ defender, I don’t think Rose offers less than Masina in that respect. But he would offer far more going forward.

 

He's pretty decent in the air, to be honest. Doesn't lose many duels

 

Yeah that’s what I was kind of saying regarding Kiko. But at the same time, a more attacking full back maybe better for the style Xisco wants to play. Either way, was just wondering what type of player Rose would be described as.

 

This happens sometimes when players have zero competition. Atleast Rose is proper competition for Masina.

Understand deal for free agent Danny Rose (ex-#THFC) to join is progressing with medical scheduled today. Two year deal could be announced next 24 hours.

Have to say, I'm curiously optimistic. If he's fit, he's an upgrade on Masina and a player in a position we need.

However, I'll still turn on him/the pozzos as soon as it goes wrong.

Hes a brilliant signing, potentially the best left back England ever had, lovely bloke and clearly is part of the plan to push for the top 6 next season. Shame is only a 2 year deal. Although maybe I'm just wearing my rose tinted glasses again.

A chap I coach,a Spurs fan who built the new stadium ( not on his own!) and does work at Levy's house from time to time,has said DR is two stone overweight as of last week.

Medical now happening today rather than yesterday.

 

Yesterday he was still too hungover from watching the England game.

 

I did say that I thought he looked a bit chunky in a photo of him from a month or so ago I posted.

But not to worry, as TD shows the club is fantastic for getting players in to shape in time for the season.

 

TD probably pushed for this signing so he wouldn't be the chunkiest and least professional player in the dressing room any more - thus taking the heat off him a bit.
