The patron saint of Venice was a man called Panta Leon (literally 'all forgiving' or 'all compassionate'). When the Comedie Del Arte created a stereotypical Venetian character (a lecherous old skinflint) they named him after the patron saint, whose name was also very common amongst Venetian men. When the characteristic legware, similar to the character's costume became fashionable in Europe, it was named in his honour, as 'pantaloons.' And that's why we wear 'pants' to this day.
It's an acronym for "Wives and Girlfriends". They were the female partners of sportsman - only really named one if they were deemed 'fit'.
Yeah the media mainly. Pathetic indeed. In retrospect, you could call Gray's missus one at the moment. It sort of faded out a few years back and hopefully never returns.
I just call her a below average entertainer. But I get the jist. Beauty is and always will be in the eye of the beholder.
It was a misunderstood saying when I got to Norway. My girlfriends mate told me she was a bimbo on more then one occasion. She was thinking it was a blonde bombshell type woman. Unkindly I let her use this for around a year before I told her I still call her it to this day
No. Bimbos were idiots, WAGs may be but not necessarily, as the term is based on their relationship to a celeb, usually a sportsman.
Of course it's impossible to be 'a WAG' because they can't be a wife and a girlfriend at the same time (at least, not to the same partner), so the term should only be used in the plural. This is how it started when Sven was England manager and allowed the players to take their 'WAGs' to the World Cup camp. Then the women who wanted to bag a footballer started to say "I wanna be a WAG!"
I always try to set my Football Manager team like this, then 2 weeks into the season my back up left back is better than I thought and I end up starting number 19 at left-back and it ruins everything.
We ve been playing with a false 9 for years . We re so adept at it that we now play with two false 9s.
2,5,6, 3 = defenders 7, 4, 8,11 - Midfielders / Wingers 9.10 - Forwards Always been my understanding / experience
Gotta love the transfer window. I've never heard of the bloke, but will be gutted when we miss out on him!
Yes - an 80's mutation of my 60's memory when 9 and 10 were the most forward positions - 8 was "inside right" when i was a lad
Agree on the wages, then give him a sliding release clause. Something like: under 5 goals and win in under 50% of the matches he starts, 150% of what we paid for him, 5-10 goals.. 250% of what we paid for him. 15 goals, 400% of what we paid for him... etc..Some combination of individual stats (goals, assists, etc.) and team outcomes. Moderate sell-on fee. Everybody wins.
If he wants a release clause before he’s even joined his heart isn’t in it and he’ll be disruptive the first opportunity comes along. No thanks.
4-2-3-1 GK: 1 RB: 2 LB: 3 CB: 5 CB: 6 CDM: 4 CM: 8 RW: 7 LW: 11 CAM: 10 ST: 9 Should be a requirement! No more stupid numbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You make me feel very old Yes - we did not have wingers - we had outside right and lefts We did not have forward pivots - we had inside rights and lefts We did not have centre backs we had centre halves
