https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/fute...ilhoes-do-watford-pelo-volante-danilo.amp.htm 20 yr old Brazilian defensive midfielder. €12m bid tabled. €15m wanted.
Hmmm, a 20 year old Brazilian who's never played in Europe, for over £10m? What could possibly go wrong?
I've a mate in work who supports Palmieras (..and is a converted Watford fan) Reckons Danilo is worth much more than €15m compares him to Caseimro... apparently he's heavily linked with Roma too but we seem to be progressing quickly with talks... All in all I'm being told this is potentially an excellent addition..
All sounds promising - although I can only find evidence of him having played less than 20 games unless I’m mistaken and missing something? That’s a lot of money if so!
Think we can file this under rubbish. Palmeiras fans rate him very highly. So bottom line, we have no chance.
We're 2 for 2 with our young Brazilians so far. Hardly surprising we are back in for another. Defensive midfield is also one of the few positions where we lack a young prospect, so again not surprising we are looking for one.
His long passing looks ridiculous, the boy loves a switch. We certainly saw the switch to Sarr used a lot last season, mainly coming from Masina.
Nah you’ve looked in the right place, just in Brazil there’s 58 different competitions and they’re not all listed on some sites
On the subject of young Brazilians, if this is the route we’re going down, we should sign Kaio Jorge from Santos. Highly rated teenage striker, only 19 and his contract expires in December. Supposedly wanted by all the top clubs around Europe, but Lazio supposedly entered into negotiations. However Lazio have denied this and so has the Santos President. However the Santos President has stated that they have done everything to keep him, but his heart is set on a move to Europe this summer. He said if a move doesn’t materialize, then they will continue to try to extend his contract. It’s highly doubtful we get him, in fact we have no chance. But still, one can dream.
He's only 20; I wonder is he also skinny like Pedro was? If so would fit Dux's aim of signing 'young, hungry players' We then fatten him up for a season or two and see what we get for him at the market.
Of course, but I'm not sure I'd spend such a large amount on an area we're already fairly strong in (well, in terms of starters anyway) when there's a very real chance with the squad we have now that Deeney starts for us again next season!
Surest sign Deeney is off then, otherwise that isn’t a sustainable plan with him still around the canteen.
It’s kind of in line with what Dux was saying about signing more Richarlisons rather than Wellbecks... but the Elephant in the room is that you actually need both and spending a lot of money on players because you might make a large profit on them later on is still just as risky in its own right. We might make a decent profit on this bloke, but at the same time he might not make any real impact on our first team as we’re well covered in that position and we still get relegated. Dux never really addressed the downsides of buying players for the group and just to make profit on did he...
Despite favouring his left-foot, he appears very comfortable spraying long balls about with both his left and right feet, which is a pretty good skill to have for a deep-lying midfielder. He does also seem "skinny like Pedro was" @Supertommymooney albeit with a bit more physicality already; he certainly doesn't seem to shirk a challenge. He appears to be our potential Pape Gueye replacement. Seems a very good prospect, but one that I'm hoping will be capable of making an impact next season, rather than another JP who still needs a bit more time to bulk up and get up to speed by which point we've already been relegated. We certainly do need an upgrade at DM, I'm not as confident in Hughes' and Chalobah's abilities to do well in the PL as many others on here.
There are question marks over Chalobah for sure (although he does look to have kicked on), but I think Hughes has been one of our more consistent players over the last 2 years in the PL even when played totally out of position. That video makes him look a bit more B2B (or at least capable of it ) which i do think is an area we need to improve in
Only has one name Players with only one name are either really really **** or really really ace, so I've now idea if I'm in or out... Perhaps we can px Success?
He seems as if he'd be comfortable either as a 6 or an 8, but considering we seem to prefer more of a double-pivot at the moment then the distinction maybe isn't so important. He'd probably be capable of filling in for either Hughes or Chalobah. Hughes has been "consistent", however he's also been consistently inferior to Doucoure and Capoue who were still our first picks when we managed to get relegated. It seems a bit naive to expect us to stay up with a midfield notably worse than the one which sent us down.
Also, when did shirt number 6 become a term for a midfielder? Has it always been like that? Was sure that back in the day at school (when everyone played 4-4-2), the back four was shirt numbers 2,3,5 and 6; 7 and 11 were your wingers, 4 and 8 your central midfielders and 9 and 10 up top. Does anyone else remember it like that?
I take the point but I would say that I dont think we were relegated because Doucoure and Capoue lacked quality. Doucoure was not the player he was in previous years - he was genuinely awful that last season but that wasn't a lack of quality. Not sure if it was confidence, lack of motivation after a failed move or what. Personally thought Hughes was far better than him in our relegation season. I mean I'd love for us to spend £20m on every position and stay up comfortably, but that aint going to happen. If our budget is limited as it seems to be, as much as possible needs to be funnled into singing an actual striker given we are going to be going into the season with only one striker remotely close to the level required.
Mystery solved! Now we know how to keep the perennial bedwetters happy - sign any random kid but give them a Brazilian name and they'll be delighted. We should have switched Fletcher's name to Fletchinho and Mattie Pollock's name to Escamudo and the dullards would be COGs in no time.
Yet in this thread we've been linked with spending a significant sum on a CM who may not even be ready to be a first-choice starter.
