According to the Mirror, Troy has demanded show down talks with the club as he is afraid of being priced out of playing in the Champions League! Is this true Troy?
Every player has his price, if Gino believes his valuation for Troy is matched he will be sold, although I don't want Troy to go I have faith in the owners to get it right for WFC!
Surely if he just wanted the club to accept a bid, he'd just ask Gino to accept it, rather than sit down for talks? I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up signing an improved contract. I wouldn't go to Leicester for Champions' League football. Okay, you're probably thinking I'm mad, but is it guaranteed to happen again next season? Even Ranieri said that Leicester's target this coming season is to avoid relegation.
If the talk of a £30m offer proves to be true then I think if Troy wants the move he will get it. from the clubs point of view that is a top price and allows plenty of scope to strengthen the squad with a couple of good front men from European or South American leagues. The captain and talismanic role he fills for the club will be harder to replace but life goes on.
If you go into a second Prem season still heavily dependent on a single player, you are probably toast anyway. A castle built on sand. Leicester wouldn't be upping their bid if they felt the player wasn't interested. Maybe he's come to the end of his patience of a new manager every 9 months. Take the extraordinary money allegedly offered, let him go with our thanks, and move on. Not saying it will be easy... tougher than last year... but we have had a year to get our act together and should we fail to compete next season then it's due to a number of things. But I think we'll find a way to hang in there.
The Pozzos aren't daft - the deal with Leicester will be £30m upfront now and deeney on loan for next 2 seasons - with Leicester paying 50% of his £100k per week wages
Putting aside all the "not for sale" bravado from the owners/fans for a moment, it will be very hard to turn down a £30m offer for a 28 year old
Very much this. I would be shocked if Leicester offer £30m. Although it only seems to be The Mirror running the 'Troy wants to leave' line if it is true then the current bid is more than fair. One way or another he will need to be replaced eventually.
I don't understand why Leicester actually want to spend £30 million on Troy Deeney anyway. I know the new TV deal allows them to from a financial point of view, but why all that on a player who has only played one-season in the Premier League and has never played for his country? He scored 13 last season but around half of those were penalties and three of the remaining open-play goals were against the bottom side, and who were a poor bottom side. If his like-for-like value compared with other players of his type is say, £15 million - how on earth do Leicester think that the rest of his qualities, those that we value so highly add up to another £15 million? I think they're being the fools by offering it rather than Watford for asking it. We can ask double if we wanted to. What is it that they think they would be getting? One thing that Troy should consider along with all of the other aspects to this is the final price tag. The media scrutiny would be enormous and the pressure to live up to it would such that it might/could work against him if he doesn't deliver exactly what they want. Rather than be just an opportunity to play Champions League football it could be a gigantic millstone around his neck. I am not just closing my eyes and ears to the possibility that this deal might just happen and hoping that it just might go away but there is more to think about than just CL football and we could offer him a salary increase if it were just down to money. If they were trying to get Harry Kane to return there (he spent some time there on loan a couple of years back) then I would understand the price tag and the chase, but not for Troy. Just my view....
I would have thought the attraction to a proven, English, PL striker and captain who can score, take penalties, defend well and lay on countless assists would be self-evident.
Deeney is worth £30 million plus to us given his role and status here, but he is nowhere near worth that for Leicester. He's a very good player and if he went there he would do well for them, but I can't understand why they seem so hell-bent on signing him given that they could sign players who are as good as Troy, if not better, for far less especially with their much-lauded scouting set-up.
I can only think because he would come relatively risk free.. We know as much as anybody an international tearing up foreign leagues guarantees very little when playing in England.. It's interesting to note no other club is enquiring about him (so far as we know). If Deeney is worth £30m to us perhaps Leicester consider he could do the same job hence the same value there. Despite last season I think our clubs are very similar in many regards.
The £30 million won't change my life in any way so I'd rather we keep Deeney because I enjoy watching him play, would like to see a Watford player play for England (he's our best hope) and I just love the guy. However, £30 bloody million for a 28 year old and more so £30 million for a Watford player is just nuts and if offered I'd totally understand us accepting and wouldn't question it in the slightest. Hope he stays mind.
Every time Leicester put in a bid for Troy we should put in a mirror bid for Vardy, just to annoy them.
At 30 mil we will accept the bid, it is stupid money. He has been great for us but without us he would have been another good championship striker. The relationship has been good for both parties. His worth to us is higher as a leader, captain etc than possibly as a player (don't mean he isn't good but as a leader he is far better) he is also that link between the fans and the club that should he leave will be severed. Hope he doesn't go but think he will the challenge is to get a replacement who will be as good as a player, the captain/leader might end up coming from Gomes or Behrami
What's the world coming to when Troy is worth £30 mill. Snap their hands off and buy a top class international foreign striker for half that.
We are losing a leader and talisman, who is far more than just one of our forwards....he has contributed a massive amount of effort, leadership and motivation to the team, the club and us as supporters and without him , we would have ben relegated last season. I can't think of another player in the prem who is of a similar stature.....there are better players technically and there are certainly quicker players, but as an all round package he is unique in British football IMO. Even oppo fans rate him highly. Worth every penny of £30m in the current market.
Vydra, iggy, success, deeney, penaranda (not to forget the yoof jakubiak, Sinclair etc) when did we ever have such a group of strikers on the books, these are incredible times
Sulky, Off formy, untestedy, Fantastic, neverplayed in the premiery, (not to forget youth prospecties) That's an abundance of riches right there. When OG is one of your top scorers it tends to suggest you need some proven strikers.
I wish people would stop saying Iggy was off form, he had a lot of personal stuff going on that was far more important than football.
So that affected his form then? Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising him for it, just stating a fact. Iggy was off form after Xmas. His form before Xmas was excellent. Dips in form and injuries are why you have backups. Last season we relied on 2 proper strikers becasue Vydra was a Sulky Susan. One of our strikers stopped scoring after Xmas. We were lucky to end up where we were.
I'm firmly in the Troy to remain cam, £30m won't make a difference to me or knock any money off of my ticket price. To me when Deeney scores there's something extra special about it, that extra bit of excitement over other players scoring. As mentioned he is the connection with the fans which is rare to find these days, look at Chelsea with all their managers they've always had Terry as the mouthpiece and even at whatever age he is the fans were still desperate for him to stay despite them being able to go out and pick from the top pool of defenders around the world. Troy has risen and smashed ever challenge he has faced when with us, at the start of the season even a few of our fans who had watched him for the last few seasons were doubting his ability in the prem but again he proved his worth. I don't think there's many players around who can drag a whole club over the line seemingly single handed so often. I really did think that £20m would be Leicesters cut off point for bidding and surprised they're still in the hunt which as mentioned does worry me as you'd imagine they wouldn't be blindly bidding without indication it's a go from Deeney. It definitely wouldn't be a case of he'll be easy to replace ability wise even, there's too many examples of players with big reputations and ability not cutting it int he prem. I do believe we'd struggle without him this coming season.
Yes we are! lol He's a cracking player but as you say £30m is insane. I would imagine it's not £30m up front. Probably loads of add ons and clauses
Not sure he will go,unless he does really want to; but I think you are spot on about the choices for our next captain
