Don't know too much about him if i'm honest, but he looks a tidy experienced player. The more the merrier. Interesting like Jurado that he use to play for QSF at Atletico Madrid. Gino is definitely allowing QSF more of an input than any other previous coach on transfers.
Definitely will be a quality signing. The fact that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea fans on Twitter all want him at their club speaks a lot of volume.
No one wants to sign for us. They just meet with QSF and their price tag increases and someone else gets them. Didn't used to be like this when we were interested in the likes of Dave Bamber.
Don't forget we tried to sign Doucoure towards the end of the summer window. Had we succeeded, we would have started the campaign with four defensive mids. So if we get Suarez, it doesn't need to imply one will leave. Those close to the camp suggest Behrami is highly thought of by the owners and QSF.
Yep. he's probably allowed to skip the Flores "face to face, look them in the eyes" bit as they already know each other http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11686/10119928/watford-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-mario-saurez
Indeed. You'd hope so. I was thinking today that I'd love to sign a player that loads of other clubs wanted. He could be The One.
A lot could have changed since they last worked together. Flores needs to sit him down in Starbucks, buy him a latte, engage the legendary stare and inspect his soul for just as long as he would any other new signing.
Everyone is getting quite excited about this guy, but he hardly fits the bill of bringing someone who is ready to hit the ground running, which is the type of player we have been reported to want. He sounds like a decent player, but he has hardly played for his current club this season, therefore I would imagine he will not be match fit and ready to hit the ground running, and will probably take a few weeks to get up to speed
What? He'll be as match fit as Guedioura and he has played in pretty much the exact same system we play now.
He has played under QSF before and knows exactly what he needs to do. I'm sure he will be match for half way through the season even if he hasn't played much, players that are looking to move on stay fit so that when they join their new club their ready to play. He has won numerous titles and is a leader on the field. The fact that Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea all wanted him and still want him, well Arsenal and Liverpool do and so do their fans, as well as Marseille (who he has turned down apparently) wanting him, he must have something about him. I haven't seen him play but based on people who watched La Liga when he was playing saying he is a fantastic player, then that's good enough for me.
I don't think they literally mean sign one day and play the next. If WD Sports are right it's more about wanting a player who is at a stage of his career where he can contribute to the team almost immediately - ie. not an Oulare or Berguis - but have the potential to be here for some years - ie. not Adebayor. I don't think match fitness comes into it particularly as that can be gained quite quickly if the player is of the calibre to be able to take part on the pitch in spells in the meantime.
The team's not crying out for new recruits right now. The hit the ground running thing applied more when we thought we might be under threat of relegation. Now we're almost certain to staying up they're mainly only going to sign players more for the long term. Suarez could be a great addition for the next couple of seasons & beyond. If it takes him a month to get fully fit, it matters not too much.
Looks like we missed out. On Wiki he plays for Wat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Suárez_(footballer)
Or QSF has better experience with managing players who are talented enough to be potential transfer targets. It does say a lot about his man-management skills however, if he does come.
I'm totally cool with this signing, in fact I think it'd be great. But don't think I won't climb atop the Lloyd Doyley statue and go on hunger strike if Flores inexplicably drops Ben Watson to the bench, cos he and Suarez woz maytes at Atletico and cos they go way back. Because I will.
Seen a few places quote a price of €9m for us to buy him in the summer after his loan. That would put him in Capoue territory wouldn't it, maybe more?
Maybe Suarez in, Gueds out? Gueds doesn't seem to be one of Florrie's faves. Judging by the video compilation, Suarez doesn't mind delivering hospital passes. The players who received those passes were usually good enough to be able to pass the ball on quickly and accurately before they got robbed or clattered, but are ours (and our pitch) good enough for that?
Can't imaging he will come straight in and start for us anyway, he will have a few weeks to blend in to the squad as Watson and Capoue are in great form (unless this guy is signed in time for the FA Cup game).
I've seen Mario Suarez play. He's very similar to Behrami, with better passing and a little more sensible. A good addition, but possibly a sign that Behrami might be off.
It also says his current club is Barnet and that he particularly enjoys a festive turnip on the Spanish Holliday abacantemallojramadridcelona. Not sure I want him any more.
Guedioura will play a part this season, Quique has said he deserves to play more but in my opinion, I love the guy but he's just not good enough to hold down a starting place. He got away with his tricks and gung-ho approach in the Championship but I don't think he looks after the ball enough for Quique and charges around leading him to be caught out of position which is why he doesn't start. I haven't seen much of Suarez apart from the odd La Liga game on tv and I haven't bothered to watch the youtube video but I'd suggest his passing is probably good enough for us and didn't get called up to the Spanish squad because he's only able to play hospital passes. He sounds like an upgrade on Behrami and a very good one too judging by the reaction of other fans to us potentially signing him.
I wish it were this clear. But he's had, what, 60 minutes all season? All cold off the bench, in max 10 minute spells. From me, he gets a big N/A for his work this season. How anyone can judge his performances this year or suddenly decide that he is not good enough, is completely beyond me.
Completely agree. What is more amusing is the fact that the poster in question has spent the season saying that people are wrong for disagreeing with Florrie, only to then disagree with him over Guedioura because of his immense and creepy dislike for our Championship players.
