Hard to know whether he would have made an impact last year given the chance; personally I thought he was our only bright spark in an otherwise miserable end to thee season and would have liked to see him this season. However, I agree with nisman's assessment that he's not strong or fast enough to play on the wing in the Prem so if we can make a profit on him it's probably best for all involved.

He would have every chance of getting in the starting eleven IMO, but if not, he would make a great impact sub and probably get on most games.

Therefore we should not let him go at a loss as intimated by reids, but if someone wants to buy him at a decent price, by that I mean at least what we paid for him, then I would have no objection to him going if he really wants to go, but definitely not at a loss!

At the same time, with Success, potentially Niang, Amrabat (or 2) and Penaranda - would he get much game-time?

Harsh as it sounds, the decision isn't actually his, if they want him, then there will be a selling price, if they are not prepared to meet it, he is our player to recall, or sell/loan to another party.

I never saw anywhere near enough to convince me Berghuis would become a consistently effective Premier League player, or even enough to take a gamble on. Put it this way, would you back him up against Holebas all afternoon? I wouldn't, and I think Holebas is the among the worst cross stoppers I've ever seen.

I only know about 1% as much as you about the world game, but I'd have thought we'd have got close to £3m for a loan fee at least. Isn't that how it works?

Plus they owe us for Connolly.

I hadn't thought about the loan fee actually, imagine there was one though - good point!

Would cover his salary wouldn't it, plus a small mark up ?

  9. If we have a chance of 433 with Niang, Deeney and Pereyra then I don't see where Birdhouse fits in

Salary contribution would be a different part of the deal.

You need quality replacements when those three inevitably get injured, suspended or lose form. None of them will play all 38 games including Deeney when he has his domestics with Wally.

Is he having a dig at Watford?

With the demise of the Niang deal I would personally like to Berghuis given a go. In the limited time we saw him last season he looked decent and has had an excellent season in Holland. I think it will be a waste if we don't give him an opportunity

Unless Berghuis is ready to patiently wait for the chance to get in the team, like Doucoure, then it's pointless. He wasn't good enough at the start of his first season and didn't take it well. We don't need all that again.

If he was committed to playing for us, then he'd be a good option, but as it is, we are clearly a reluctant 2nd choice at best.

As such, I think it better he moves on. He's good, but for the money we get from him, I'm sure we can sign someone as Good, who sees Watford as their actual home for 2 seasons.

He's our player on paper, but I doubt he'll ever play for us again so time to look elsewhere.

berghuis did his fair share of waiting around under Flores while Jurado and Abdi got to start on the wings every week and do nothing which must've been frustrating. He then got put to the back of the que again by Mazzarri despite looking good in pre-season. If he's willing to come back then that's great coz he'll improve our team, but if he wants to stay in Holland I can fully understand his decision.

Unless we get a very good offer for him, a profit not a loss, then I think he should be brought back in house to give the new manager a chance to decide if he wants him or not.

  25. Think we should try a sneaky offer although bigger teams than us will be after him FML

You've said that about 5 times now.

He'll go for about the same price we got him, or we'll loan him out with an option to buy after a certain amount of games. I imagine the £4.6 mill we paid for him was made up several clauses and add on's so doubt we paid anymore than a couple of million for him up front.

It's not a tough choice either, stay with us and scrap it out lower mid-table next season, probably start on the bench, or play in your home country, for the Champions, in Europe and have enough game time to get called up to the National squad.

It's because I think that we should keep him, and quite frankly your comment is an exaggeration on your part. Furthermore my comment has more of an emphasis on what I think should happen now we are going to have a new manager, therefore I think it was a point worth making, even if you don't.

Slightly concerning that he's put on weight since last season. Same personal trainer as Deeney perhaps ?

Wait until Silva stares into his eyes and the very depths of his soul.

Only then will we know if he's going to stay.

Not sure he has a good enough work rate or resilience to survive in the PL, but I'd like to see him given a go.
